In this science video we take a look a traction control in GT7 post update 1.38 and see how it fits into the current game. Does it affect laptime, tyrewear and tyre temps....the answers are inside.
The thing that sets you apart from all the other content creators are these little gems of science and testing within GT7. Not only are they incredibly interesting, but they are also very helpful to the community. Well done and keep up the good work!
Thank you Daz I appreciate that a lot. The channel was always set up to try and help other drivers with the race and strategy guides and im glad people still enjoy the content and find it useful...cheers again!
Best way to save tyre tread ive found is to run suspension a bit softer so more body roll is absorbed into the suspension rather than transferred through the tyres and pushed into the tarmac. That plus coasting around corners 1, 2, 4 and 5
Cool test. I think the RCZ (and all others) tyres wear a little worse when "in-race" more so than just trialling. The extra traffic adjustments, and tougher defending styles wear them faster. Which means you'll need TC on the last laps. That's why it's always handy to map HUD to an accessible button so you can toggle up/down when needed.
Cheers Freedom....yep sometimes battling can induce more tyrewear which is why I tend to look for a clear cut move when behind another car rather than needless fighting. Often time behind another car il use that opportunity to be more gentle with the car and try saves tyres rather than ducking and diving for moves that clearly aren't on. Yeah iv got buttons right at my thumbs mapped to mfd + and -...more for fuel saving races but now I'm going to use it to fiddle with TC mid race as well.
Cheers....yeah TC1 definitely seems more viable than a few months ago. This was my first time using it since they updated its implementation a few updates ago....im interesting in seeing if I can you it mid race to bring tyre temps down and increase the tyre life.
There definitely seems there's a trade-off in saving tyres with TC at the cost of speed through too much TC not allowing the tyres to get to temp, so like you say looks like there's a sweet spot maybe TC2 or 3 and could be utilised in certain combos to get an extra lap or 2 on softs, especially in some of the longer races of late, next weeks manu for example! Great info cheers.
Thank you...no video on 2,3 and 4 except what I mention in this video. I will say that TC 1 and 2 don't seem to hinder pace and its only when you go to 4 and 5 laptime get really affected.
@@wombleleaderracing6455 my view as well. TC 2 seems more universal and allows for more aggressive spring rates, as well as LSD, so I would think it is slightly better.
Cheers Lobotomy...im using TC a lot since doing this video. Think some people feel "ashamed" to use it but given the amount of M6s iv seen spinning out at Watkins this week they would be better of using it!!
Think it'd be cool to see a vid testing brake balance, in terms of different feel when driving and tire wear, feels like the effects have been less noticeable between extremes. Not sure tc helps tires, depends on how you drive and feel with tc, when you just end up being unable to use it properly, you probably end up losing more time than you gain anyway. And in terms of equal conditions, settings have been poor, so much stuff you can't even adjust and changes randomly, so many variables just makes it experienced different more often than not. To be noted aswell, with this track, tc probably reduces those slides at the end of sector 1 going wide and the chicane, so that may make it more consistent, also seems like front on tc1 might be slightly more worn, like marginally, same with temps seem a bit more front biased, though would need more data for definitive conclusion.
I did a test a while back(not in a video) where i compared -5 BB to +5 BB over a 20 min race distance and the difference in tyrewear was a lot less than expected. Its enough to use it as a tool but the difference between say 0 and 2 would be negligible....that was in the Gr4 Scirocco so differences in other cars/ groups may vary....its something il test more comprehensively in the future but lot if driving involved for that 😆 Yeah whither the track conditions are due to the slight variance between TC0 and 1 I dont know but I turned equal condition on and did the runs consecutively so best I could do to equalise things.
@@wombleleaderracing6455 oh ye, obviously you put the right settings, just usual pd not bothering to make every setting for track conditions be available
Huge content brother... the TCS seems much more optimize then 6 months ago. In Nürburgring with RCZ I made my quali time with TCS 0 as always. But when I tested the tire wear, I tried to use TCS 1/2 to compare.... the thing is, I could do only +0.2 slower than my PB and many times. (1.24.4xx) Pretty strange and it doesn't worked that way before. Was much more penalizing. Same for counter steering on weak I think... PS.: Don't forget I'm on pad
Yeah they changed the TC implementation a few updates ago but this was the first time I had really tried it and was surprised how nice it was...definitely agree wasn't like this 6 months ago....its a tool im going to try using more, could be effective in cooling the tyres down mid race to increase life.
@@wombleleaderracing6455 if you find useful, try the counterbalance assist on weak. I did that exact same test of TCS and counter assist on weak. With no assist I did 1.24.4 and with TCS+1 and counter on weak, manage to do multiple laps on 1.24.6xx... couldn't believe myself. With the exact same RCZ and track.
I tend to use TC with gr3 hard tyres usually just on 1 but the genesis sometimes needs 2 because it's a weapon 😂using the controller though I will be investing in wheel and load cell peddles soon.Great video as usual mate.I may as well ask while I'm here ,do you do your own liveries or get someone else to do them ?I do a lot of liveries and if you would like me to send you some if you like 👍 I just need to know favourite colours and lucky number and I'll give it a go for you if you like 😊no problem at all.
I'm surprised how nice TC is now, first iv used it since they updated it a few patches ago...il definitely be using it as a tool going forward. No I don't do my own liveries I just go shopping. Feel free to make me some, il definitely check them out. Send a friends request(if haven't already) i change liveries quite often as well. I quite like yellow liverys but tbh im not that fussy. Number is P womble better known as P7 😆
Saving tyres with TC isn't something I've looked at. I tend to use it depending on which car I'm in. MR cars I don't tend use it all, where on FR cars I use it on 1 as they tend to spin up the rear wheels a lot easier. One thing I can see on the video, is even in a straight line TC5 was cutting in and affecting the acceleration.
I had heard it mentioned numerous times over the years that TC affected tyrewear but had never really tested it....im quite surprised at results! Yeah the intrusion from TC5 was clear to feel and see!
Cheers mate....yeah im looking forward to trying to use the TC as a tool to improve tyrewear. Be very interesting if midrace you could use it to cool the tyres down and improve life.
The only time you use TC in GR3 cars is possibly in the rain and while driving naturally aspirated cars as the TC cuts soooo much power at TC1 in turbocharged cars. A great example to use TC1 in a GR3 car is the Mazda vision car. It is generally better to use to TC 1 in the races as the car is rather sketchy on the rear and like you said, it gives you a little more confidence to push.
Iv tried using a few cars now with TC1at Nurburgring and found little difference in terms of laptime. Tbf im not sure whither they are NA or T though so il bear that in mind. Yeah iv known about the RX Vision for a while being used with TC1. Curious to known how it reacts to higher TC now.
Been having a blast this week at Race C in the 20' AMG with TCS 1. Where other drivers are spinning out at the end or having huge moments, TCS 1 keeps me stable when my tires are near dead. I just turn TCS off at the rolling start because I feel it slows me down when pulling away in 1st gear.
I was super surprised how nice TC1 was...its really first time iv used it since the update where they refined it....il certainly be using it as a tool going forward.
@@wombleleaderracing6455Yes the launch physics were hard, but then they turned it into GT Sport lite, and then they dialed that back a little but still too understeery in some situations. MR cars still suffer a lot in certain low speed corners with camber because the suspension physics are fucked. Try driving the renault at the last corner of deep forest lol
Yeah not sure how much will help as pad players tend to struggle with fronts and not so much rears...anythingis worth a try....TC1 didn't really help tyrewear though you would have to go higher to get any real benefit but might make you slower!
@@wombleleaderracing6455 it didn't help at all in last night's lobby races. Just got to wait for the wheel/rig magic to happen - I'll be faster and smoother, floating around like a butterfly! 😉
What i find crazy, i race with lots of people , but recently i have notice the people who are crazy fast on gt7 , are slow driving at IRacing , perhaps that are able to exploit gt7 more or because set up is way more involved
Tbf iv seen a few WT GT7 drivers get 7-8k irating very quickly so there is definitely transferable skills. Interestinly iv seen a lot of drivers play GT then go play something like ACC then when coming back to GT7 they have taken stuff learned from ACC and applied it to GT7 to go faster. A lot of people think driving aggressively on GT is the fastest way(and it can work) but smooth does tend to be faster overall...I think that could be the root of the problem.
@wombleleaderracing6455 I agree 100% , what my main issue is the people in iracing and even acc tend to have much better racing etiquette then those in gt7 , What most important for me is running consistently and clean , but in gt7 you see these drivers with fast times yet over a period of a race they tend to never be as fast or exploit unrealistic physics such as using curbs to turn. Really gt7 needs to add real world damage to prevent these aggressive driving habits but you are right , iracing , and acc will make you faster
ok so before even watching this, i've never understood this. Traction control seems like it would reduce tire wear etc because it's preventing wheel spin. the idea that TC would make tires wear more has never made sense. TC 1-2 depending on car and tire compound seem to be the sweet spot. Never understood why people avoid it.
Well its important to remember tyres also wear purely from gripping as well as sliding and spinning so TC forcing the tyres to grip can induce tyrewear....although thats probably still better than spinning or sliding the tyres. If you have watched the vid though you will see TC does indeed improve tyrewear through reducing tyre temps but there's a cost to laptime the higher you run the TC. In the past TC even on 1 was slower than no TC but the change on the recent-ish update that refined how it works seems to have made it more usable.
@@wombleleaderracing6455 yeah slower has always made sense. But more tire wear has always been weird but I’ve heard people say this a million times. So I’m glad you did this video.
