The Nokia tune (also called Grande Valse) is a phrase from a composition for solo guitar, Gran Vals, by the Spanish classical guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega, written in 1902.It has been the icon of Finnish corporation Nokia since the 1990s, becoming the first identifiable musical ringtone on a mobile phone, and has become a cult classic.
This song is beautiful and I don't even mind hearing it all the fucking time. It's estimated that this ringtone plays 20,000 times per second, or 1.8 billion times each day.
It's actually there, but it's a harmonic so it doesnt get picked up by the microphone(s). You can hear him hit the string, but it's dampened. Good ear!
Regrettably, I've lost the second disk in this set. David Russell was superb and Tarrega; yet to be equaled in the Ethnic Guitar category, except perhaps by Augustine Barrios Mangore? How can one say? I can't.
@shamif You're right guy. About Bach, my opinion is honest, when you learn to hear the music you start looking for beautifullness, for a languague, something that talks to you and not just virtuosism or good and cool sounds. When I hear Bach you can hear the sounds playing, running through the piece, and making something that talks about the life. Sorry if I can't explain what I want to say, english isn't my main language . But well whatever, poeple is free to like whatever they want. Greetings.
Today I was with David Russell, Ana Vidovic and Ricardo Gallen and I have a photo with them, this is like a dream.
@shamif ok let's get something straight here. Bach almost singlel-handedly brought the well-tempered system into existence, the very same system that we've been using to tune our instruments for almost three centuries. That's what the Well-Tempered Clavier was all about. He also elevated the art of counterpoint to its utmost peak - the art form basically dies when Bach did. Tarrega did not have nearly that much influence over the music that came after him as Bach did.
