I love your videos......We did the Bright Angel trail and I am afraid of heights too! I stayed close to the wall and the trail was wider than I expected....so I did ok too. Going down was easy...going back up was a challenge...I had to stop every so often to get my heartrate where it needed to be. We went down to Indian Garden. I wanted to go all the way down to the river...but maybe next time. I am almost 70 by the way...:) Pictures never shows the AWESOME views that you actually see. It's breath taking! Thank You! so much for inspiration in your videos!!!!
Thank you Teresa for that amazing comment. I am so happy you got to do the trail also, that is awesome!!!! Going do way amazing, but that hike back up was brutal. We just got back from Alaska and Scott conquered another height challenge, we went on a Helicopter ride!!! Baby steps. ❤️
Based on your tee shirt I am hoping you are Southeastern residents like myself! I have lots of questions: 1. How different is the climate and how hard is it to adjust?? 2. Do you work out regularly? (I do not and I'm wondering if I could handle it!) 3. If you didn't have to hike back up how much further do you think you could have gone down? I really want to do a rafting trip that goes to Havasu Falls and most trips require a hike down Bright Angel Trail to get to the raft.
Hi my friend. Funny, I had to go back and see what shirt one of us was wearing. We are from Cincinnati, but our son goes to University of South Carolina so we are VERY familiar with that weather. First - we went in December and the climate was amazing. No humidity, there was a slight crisp, but felt so good in the sun. I thought we adjusted fine. The views are so amazing at every corner that you don't pay attention to the climate as much. Second - I had to laugh because that is a complete NO. Sadly we do not work out. I think that is why this video is relatable to so many because we are very real with the struggle coming back up. Third - If I didn't have to come back up then absolutely YES we would have kept going. At the 1 1/2 mile mark at the restroom, that is where we turned around and at that point it definitely wasn't as steep if we would have continued. I think you definitely see the hardest part of the trail in this video. We would have LOVED to have continued down the trail, but we got a late start and didn't want to be in the canyon at dark. We were very worried how long it would take to get back up all those stairs. I hope this helped. If you hike down to raft and not have to come back up this trail, that is a WIN WIN. Good luck my friend and happy adventures. ❤️
Hello Miles and McConkey. :) Greetings from the Philippines! Wow! The place is beautiful and very relaxing. Thank you for sharing your wonderful video and giving me an enjoyable virtual tour of this beautiful place. Have a great day guys. Take care. New subscriber here. :)
Hello to the Philippines!!!! Thank you so much for watching. This was scary and a test, but so worth it. Definitely a memory maker. We hope you have a great week.
Thanks for the laugh. If I saw a video about this trail before we hiked it, then I wouldn't have done it the "first time" either 😂. Thanks for watching ❤️.
Congratulations! Good job! We'll be there in about 6 weeks. I honestly don't think I can get past the very beginning with my fear of heights, balance problems. But if I can make it to the first tunnel and back up I'll be proud of myself. I appreciate al the videos I've been watching for all the reasons, and yours was just as helpful as the R2R2Rs (a new term I've learned!) 😊💚☘️
Thanks for watching. My husband has a BIG fear of heights!!! There was a bend or 2 that he second guessed, but after that he was good. And seeing his face of this accomplished was worth it. He was so glad he did it. I wish you the best of luck and I KNOW you can do it. It is truly an amazing sight!! ❤️
The top of the Bright Angel trail has a moderate to easy inclination, it is wide and well maintained. I would recommend walking close to the cliff wall and go with a friend or relative who could walk to your outside so it would restrict your view of edge. Walking as far as the tunnel and back should not be physically demanding. By walking close to the cliff you will be able to put your hands on the rocks to steady yourself. You may find it helpful to wear gloves to protect your hands from abrasions and cuts. Take some water with you, maybe a snack and definitely a camera. I am sure that you will feel better about it when you reach the tunnel, try to look around and try to take a few photographs. You should be going at a good time of year that should be not too cold and not too hot. The chance of there being snow and/or ice at the top should be low. If you want to keep an eye on the condition of the path the very start of the trail you can do a websearch on "Grand Canyon" "webcams" and there is one showing the switchback at the start and only attempt it if it is ice free. I am sure that you will do it and will be very proud of yourself. I will be going to the Grand Canyon in April and plan to walk from the South Kaibab trailhead to Skeleton Point and back.
@@MileswithMcConkey Thank you! I should have mentioned that I continued to be amazed by your husband's bravery and persistence. He has inspired me. I'm going to try...but no promises to myself. 🙂
@@catherinegrimes2308 Thank you for your personalized reply from someone who's been there. I really appreciate it. I feel so unqualified, largely cause I know with my vision problems thise views will make me unbalanced. But I'm strong and determined, and should be fine. I plan on renting poles for support too. Thanks for a great pep talk! Thanks for the tip on the Webcam. I read it can still be icy on top in April, so that helps. Hoping to see you on the trail. Lol! Good luck on your adventure!!! 🙂
@@gomogo2000 I have just found this statement on the NPS' webcam website by the webcam looking at the Bright Angel Trail, I hope that it doesn't adversely affect your plans: Bright Angel Trail is currently closed approximately ½ mile from the trailhead, all the way down to the Silver Bridge, through April 14, 2024.Havasupai Gardens Campground is also closed during this time. This is a Transcanyon Waterline construction-related closure.
This is a great episode…. of “As The World Turns”… first down The Bright Angel Trail to stand in mule dung…. then again up, up, up the Tarnished Angel (Angels with Dirty Faces?) Trial, up again to see Ms. Drama & Hubby, to the top, where repose happens… reveling in the accomplishment.
Thanks for the ride along. I enjoyed seeing the trail again. The last time I saw it was from the back of a mule. It’s about nine mile on the trail from the trailhead to Phantom Ranch. It’s a tough ride in July. Again, thank you.
Wife and I in our early 70’s, from the Deep South and afraid of heights hiked to the second tunnel (wife’s planned stop) last week after hiking in all the other Grand Circle parks over the prior 2-1/2 weeks. It was a great hike but very tiring. I was talking with a friend today who has done the Bright Angel rim-to-rim in one day 8 times, his last time at age 72. It makes me want to get in shape and see if I can do it.
That is amazing. Making it to the second tunnel is an accomplishment!!! Such amazing views on this trail. We do hope you try again and make it through the second tunnel 😁. Thanks for watching ❤️
So sorry Anthony, I just saw this message. Not sure what happened. We only went 1 1/2 miles down in to the canyon at the first rest point and then back up. Total 3 miles. 😊
Lol you should try doing this in Feb with ice and snow. Icers are a must! The contrasts in winter are spectacular! Lol and u didnt call 911 or need a helicopter out!
You are funny, I don't know if I could ever do that again. My excitement of trying it outweighed my stupidity of hiking back up 😂. Funny this was my first video and I still have people tell me that watch it all the time because it makes them laugh. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was real. Thanks for watching. ❤️
This was such a great video! Thank you so much! I think I may have a chance at making it as far as you two did. I'm not afraid of heights, just afraid of falling. LOL!!! What time did you start and what time did you get back to the rim?
Thank you so much for watching. You definitely can do it!! The great thing is, the longer you are on the trail the more confidence you have and you are able to enjoy the view. I think we started around 3:00 and made it back up (exhausted 😂) around 5:30. ❤️
Great video!! It was super helpful for us before we went on the trail. Just got a GoPro. Can you tell me what you use to edit and upload your video? I’m not sure where to start. Thanks!!!
Hi Joan, thank you so much. I am SO happy this video helped you out. We were talking with an older gentleman before we went on it and he said he tried the trail several times, but couldn't get through the first turn. He said he always regretted not being able to do it. I thought if I could video it then maybe that could help others know what it really was like. Anyway, I love that you got a GoPro. I use Final Cut Pro to upload and edit my videos. I hope this helps.
@@MileswithMcConkey I just watched your video again. It just makes me laugh. You guys went through exactly what we did. We had great hopes of making it to the bottom, but we got to that rest house and decided that was plenty for us. Lol. One last question. I’m starting to do these home movies for ourselves, and I’m wondering - do you hold the GoPro on the little telescoping stick when you use it? I love the way yours turn out.
