The forest service roads are the way to go! Great time camping with no crowds.. Wood and pine cones on the ground where we were, so no hauling campfire wood!! Minutes from the South entrance!!!

We visited the North Rim a couple summers ago. Awesome trip. Sunrise at Imperial Point and a mule ride into the Grand Canyon were the highlights.

We stayed at the north rim remote area (4:50) in 2010. It was amazing and we only got there because all other sites were full and a ranger directed us up the dirt road. No connections and vault toilets, at the time it was free. We ended up staying three days just because of the remoteness and the view. Overlooking the canyon plateau, and not a long ride to the canyon viewing center.

HIghly recommend this area! I stayed off FR 302 for 4 days in mid-July 2020 with my Class C Minnie 26'. Lots of spots for many sizes of RVs, maybe a few for the big ones but lots for the smaller ones, trailers and fifth wheels. I moved on up 302 to get to FR 310 (about 11 more miles), took a left to Grandview Tower. Lots of places there as well yet this time I wouldn't suggested RVs longer than maybe 30' to 32'. Beautiful and quiet. Elk, coyotes, hiking and biking trails (AZT), OHV trails and just a few minutes from the Grand Canyon! Happy Trails!

Love the white walls and white cabinetry of your RV....looks clean, bright & larger inside than tan & espresso colors (to me). 🙂

We’re taking your advice and heading for the 610 North Rim site in the next few days traveling from Hurricane, UT in a truck camper. Will post an edit to say if it’s as nice as it looks in your wonderful video. Thanks!

Nice video! We were just talking about wanting to explore The Grand Canyon this year but I didn’t even know where to start. I really like the idea of having the Forest Roads as an option if all conventional sites are booked.

We’re planning to go to “the train” tour, besides the rv park on it, is there a closest campground that we can just walk to the train tour? We have a class c and no toad. Thx

I love the North Rim and Point Sublime. We visit the Point in our Jeep and I would not take an RV/trainer on the road there from either direction. You have to get a permit to camp in the North Rim Back country. We've just started to explore the National Forest roads. The ones we've dtiven were well maintained.
@jonathandavis2512
@jonathandavis2512 5 лет назад
Agree! Shocked that Point Sublime is included in this video as it is definitely not RV friendly. We got lucky & got a permit for a night there a few years back & camped in our Honda Element. At the time of year we went, a high clearance vehicle was a must due to ruts in the road (which is 1 lane dirt/gravel & narrow). There were a couple of spots where I had to do some creative driving since we could have used a couple more inches of clearance (Element only has 6 inches). NPS strongly advises not to go without 4WD. Unless you have a 4x4 Sprinter or a truck with a bed camper you shouldn't think of RV camping there & you shouldn't plan on it as your primary campsite since there's only 2 sites, a long 4wd road to get there & you need a walk up permit from the visitor center. The National Forest is a much, much, much better option.
@cacatr4495
@cacatr4495 5 лет назад
It's possible that before monsoon, the roads are in good condition, and that only during the snowy winter months and snow-melt time, and later, into Summer monsoon during rut-making muddy time, that some roads would become too rough. Lots of rain can damage an otherwise good road. This is why they maintain, grate and gravel roads in the first place.

Do you know how many days you can stay on the free campsites? They usually have restrictions. And Thank you for all of this information, its very helpful.
@Campendium
@Campendium 5 лет назад
Hi Tami, they usually do have restrictions. We try to include that information on the Campendium website but also recommend checking with the forest ranger or official website (if there is one) for a particular location.

Love your videos but they are obviously aimed at rv’ers. We are going out west for a six week trip next year and plan on tenting the whole time with occasional stays in a hotel for a break. My question: Can we camp with a tent in the places you showed in this video?
@theneverendinghighway
@theneverendinghighway 5 лет назад
When people talk about Forest Roads, those are usually roads in a National Forest and that means generally they are free campsites that anyone can use...from RVs to tent camping.A thing you might want to consider doing is buying one of the benchmark maps for the states you will be visiting as they show all the National Forest and BLM around the state you are in, and then be able to plan where you might want to camp. The paid campsites is probably dependent on who is running the camp grounds and the rules they have made. You would kind of just have to research those sites beforehand to see if they will allow tent camping at them.
@mariojamesguzman

Are these sites only for RVs or can we pull up with a RTT?

As a local, I can say please come by the hundreds to this area. Especially around FSR 610-611. No, make that thousands. These used to be nice, peaceful areas, until everyone decided to post there favorite little hideaway places on various social media sites. Now most people will be lucky to find a place to camp without parking on top of four or five other people.

Thanks Jared.. I keep saving the spots. Great to have some spots reviewed so we know we will be able to get in and out. Love the Campendium App. One question on filters. I only see when filtering partial, full hookups a drop down box for 50 amp, which is great. But no filters on length? I guess any 50 amp site would allow 35 ft 5th wheels with no problem. But I’m not sure when its only 30 amp sites. Some sites I find don’t have reviews or the Big rig is a question mark. Know a lot goes into the app but just wondering if that was something that was being though of or is the only way to know is calling camp grounds. Just me thinking it would make my search easier if one of the filters would be say 30-35 , 35-40 or something. Again thanks for all you do and great spots for sure. Such a great place to find spots that people have been. 👍👍👍👍
@Campendium
@Campendium 5 лет назад
Hi NonRev, we just added a new filter to the website RV length based on reviews - but it's still limited to the the reviews and dependent on people filling out their profiles. Hopefully we can get it added to the app in the future!

To anyone visiting the Grand Canyon, please respect the canyon and stay away from the ledges. A selfie isn't worth your life. In the past few weeks, 4 people here at the Grand Canyon have fallen to their deaths because of stupidity.

Only 4 ? Hard to believe. I know we have more stupid people than that. If they don't fall, maybe they need a slight nudge. Darwin selection...
