Two adventure-seeking ultra runners attempt the Grand Canyon double-crossing (Rim to Rim to Rim) in 1 day. Follow along as we start down South Kaibab Trail at 4:43 AM, cross the Colorado River at Bright Angel Trail, enjoy lemonade at Phantom Ranch, and ascend the North Kaibab Trail. We managed across rock slides, flood-damaged trails, and several trail blowouts before facing the decision to turn around or continue to the trailhead.

I did Rim-to-Rim, North to South on 10/5/23. I trained for a year, it was tough, but based on my performance. Im now training to do R3. Best time to do R3 based on the many videos I've watched is October right before the North Rim is closed for winter. Congratulations! I know you guys are going back! Unfinished business!

That looks absolutely brutal. Must put it on my bucket list! Great job. It must have been frustrating to have to turn back but, as always, better safe than sorry. Great work!

Hate to break it to you, but Canyon Rules: 1) If you blow up in the Canyon, you owe the Canyon a redemption run. 2) The Canyon gives no %@#$'s. Retrain, re-tool, add lightness and speed, and get back there!! You guys did great. You just picked the wrong time of year. Late April and all of May, or mid-Aug to early Oct. are the times to do R2's and R3's. I'm heading back to do another R2 this coming Saturday. Can't wait. It's number 12.

You were there April 8th and both from North Carolina, correct? I was on the same bus and we interacted briefly a couple times down SK and then again as you were returning down NK (im a hiker not a runner but light jog SK). Try Rim 2 River 2 Rim, its a much more manageable way to experience the GC and easy logistically.

@@Smashycrashy I watched JBruns R3 a couple months ago. That guy runs R3's like he's out for a morning jog. Love it!! He's an absolute machine.
