This was a GoPro with a head mount. One of the first hikes I've shot. I think I've gotten a little better as time has gone on, but this will do. It's nice not to have to handle the camera with the sheer length of this hike and the endurance it requires.

My son and I with other friends were there hiking SK to NK just a week prior to your trip. Temps were mid 70’s. I just hiked SK to NK again last Wednesday, November 2. Hi Matt, so you can hike to the river and camp overnight and then make the hike back out? My wife and I love the Grand Canyon, we floated down the Colorado for 5 days covered 188 miles. We have also helicoptered over the canyon, awesome. We want to hike rim to rim but can’t do it in one day.

I'm glad you liked it. This video is fairly comprehensive, but I don't have nearly enough battery or storage to film non-stop. Of the 12 hours I spent hiking, these three videos cover about an hour. I emphasize landmarks you might find along the way and may skip over portions that are very repetitive. But there are not any major sections of the trail missing--it's all there. Good luck and have fun!

You said what I said when I reached the top too, indifferent words though: "We can say we did it, but never again." We had a rule to never walk up hill or down hill ever again. And we haven't, except for the few years in the Rocky Mountains..............man that was a mother. EVERY THING is either up or down hill. We loved it though. Thank you for an incredible trip down Memory Lane. My judgment is that it is, by far, the very best hike up the canyon of the many videos I have seen, constantly searching for one like this. thank you.

In January 2014 we did SK down to Phantom Ranch (overnight) then to Ribbon Falls and back to Phantom Ranch (overnight) then out on the BA. It was fantastic. We needed crampons going down the SK until the 5000 ft level, but no snow the remainder of the trip. A great, uncrowded, time of the year to do it. Pretty easy until you are coming out and reach the 3 mile resthouse. We were all in our mid-60's at the time. For anyone wondering about Phantom Ranch, you need reservations. I could have done with much less volume on the music as I missed a lot of your comments.

lol, “Rim-to-rim-to-rim hikers are obnoxious fitness freaks whose purpose for existing is to make the rest of us feel inferior”, that is the runners. While I am definitely obnoxious, I’m a fat old guy who was just curious if he could do it in one day. I assure you it is a way more mental (staying motivated) and technical challenge (keeping properly fueled and hydrated) than physical. When I saw my first r3 video on YT I was in awe and never intended to do it. I did it about a year after that first viewing just by hiking consistently and when someone asked if I wanted to do r2r on short notice I said yes but kept the option for returning in the back of my mind. When I got to the north rim I knew I had enough in me to make it back so I left my friend at his car and started back. I was watching this video because I went through the area in the dark and was seeing what I missed. I plan on doing rim to river to rim soon to see it in the daylight. Thanks for posting the video.
