Great reaction! I love it when young people of today discover the Beatles for themselves, just as we discovered and fell in love with them 60 years ago. Now and then....
One of my favorite Beatles stories was Paul telling back when he and John were just beginning to write their own songs. Paul said that one evening he and John were walking through his neighborhood heading to his house for a writing session. Paul said they finished up close to midnight, and he decided to walk John back home. On the way back, they passed by a house when John said “Man, do you see those people over there still outside playing cards at this hour” ? Paul said he looked over and saw a nativity scene set up outside the house John was looking at. Since John was virtually blind without his glasses (and refused to wear them), he thought there were a group of card players outside this house that hadn’t moved for the several hours since they had passed them by earlier. Paul said he cracked up laughing and never forgot it. 😂
N9 es exactamente así quemPaul se dio vuenta de que hablaba pero si ,confundió gente jugando a las cartas con un Belen ...por que no veía nada Paul se lo contó a R Wood (de los Stones ) en una entrevista ... Está por RU-vid
The guitar solo is actually Paul doing slide guitar in George’s style, since George never recorded a solo. I think it’s a phenomenal tribute to both of his friends.
You sound like a real true Beatles fan to me! I'm a 64 year old true Beatles fan and you made my day. It's young people like you who will carry the baton and keep this music alive. I felt so much pride watching your reaction and I don't even know you! Lol! Thank you for carrying it forward ✌️❤
Oh, goodie, another reaction to the Beatles new song Now & Then & I've watched them all. I now have many copies of this song in all colours it's not funny but it's a great song yet some disagree but heck, who cares, it's The Beatles LAST song, gotta love it.🍏❤️
I was 9-years-old when The Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan show, February 9, 1964 -- their first national exposure in the US. On that date, Ringo & John were 23, Paul, 21, & George, 20 (2 weeks shy of 21) - that's how VERY young they really were!!! I LOVED them immediately, feelings that never waned, & they have been the most prominent & beloved band on the soundtrack of my life ever since. Naturally, I was eagerly awaiting Now And Then, & I heard it on the radio the day it was released. I liked it, & fully appreciated it for what it is. The next day, I watched the video. WOW!!!!! I had goosebumps & tears all at once . . . what a powerful, heartfelt video, accentuating phenomenally poignant lyrics in the context they were used. Just beautifully done. Stunned by how emotional it is. And I absolutely LOVE the song!!! Everyone should watch the video & love it, too!!! Without a doubt, the absolute best music video I've ever seen in all the years of music videos!!!!! A true masterpiece!!! Facts everyone should know -- John Lennon, who wrote this song & is singing lead, was murdered in NYC on Dec 8, 1980, 10 years after The Beatles broke up. He was 40 years old. George Harrison laid down some guitar work to this song in 1995, which is used. Sadly, he died of cancer on Nov 29, 2001, age 58. Ringo Starr (now 83), the drummer, & Paul McCartney (81) playing his iconic Hofner bass, are alive & well & still delighting audiences with their wonderful music!!!!! The history of The Beatles, & how their empire was built, & why they are still so very popular, is a story every music fan should know!! Everyone in every generation should listen to their extensive & incredibly entertaining catalogue & learn their stories, & find out how 4 young lads from Liverpool, England changed the world!!! Then watch this video again & understand how truly stellar it is!!! This short film perfectly explains how this new Beatles song came to be. Very interesting, & very enjoyable!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-APJAQoSCwuA.htmlo SPECIAL NOTE: For beautiful, haunting voices, I highly recommend Billie Holliday (listen to Strange Fruit), Ella Fitzgerald (How Deep Is The Ocean is one of my faves by her), Sarah Vaughn (I love her live performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow), & the one I most recommend -- my favorite version of my most favorite song -- jazz singer Nancy Wilson's studio recording of Someone To Watch Over Me! Quite extraordinary!!! Treat yourself to the pleasure of listening to these great ladies of song. Frank Sinatra (I've Got You Under My Skin), Dean Martin Everybody Loves Somebody), Bobby Darin (Mack The Knife), & Sammy Davis Jr (I've Gotta Be Me) are among the best male vocalists of their time, & all have long & extremely entertaining lists of great songs, too. So much wonderful music, so little time. Listen to as much as you can & enjoy it all!!!!!
Amazing reaction my guy, and same love John and crazy he only had a 17 year career basically minus the 5 years he was away from music he’s the goat and his music will live on for decades to come.
This reaction is one of the best I have seen. You would have loved growing up during that period as their music came out. There is something that you have discovered, and that is their music is timeless. Well done.
One of the last things John said to Paul was... Remember me every now and then my old friend. It's kind of a love song from John to Paul. Very impressed with your knowledge of one the greatest bands ever. Great reaction brother
What a joy it is to see someone so young truly appreciate The Beatles and the impact they've had (and still do have) on so many people. I enjoyed your reaction very much.
Being late to the party doesn’t make you any less a fan than someone like me. ✌️ A fan for 59 of my 62 years on this planet! 👌My sister was 12 years older than me and saw them twice at the Hollywood Bowl! Your enthusiasm for them is awesome! 😜They will help you though the worst times in your life and always give you a reason to smile!!!👍👌✌️😁
I'm not usually a fan of music videos as they tend to distract me from the music (yes I'm an older dude) but they really knocked it out of the park with this one.
John always has the best song on a Beatles album...but my favorite seems to be Paul for some reason. I think its because its his touch that makes the John songs so good!
But Paul always graciously said it was mutual. John would often suggest original ways of adding to Pauls ideas, if he got stuck, thats why they worked so well together
The Beatles were single-handedly responsible for ending segregation for concerts. They thought segregation was disgusting, and refused to be part of it
No matter how I am feeling, the Beatles make me smile, whether it is one of their songs or watching them in old "videos" or one of their many interviews. They were such a large part of the cultural changes that happened in the 60's and 70's that changed the world forever. We still feel their influence. They lads were open, spoke their minds, were promoting peace and love. PLus their music is the foundation of all modern pop music and still stands up even 50+ years later. Compare this to the nihilism and negativity of todays music. Have you listened to the Wings music and also John's early solo stuff? YOu have a lot ahead of you to love.
GREAT commentary. Been a Beatles fan for 60 years. They were the soundtrack to most of my life and I appreciate your respect and knowledge of a group that mostly were way before your time. They were the best - not even close and paved the way for everyone else that trod a musical path. Again respect bro.
I so appreciate you be so knowledgeable about the Beatles history before you watched this. You knew the story of the song, the anthology, you knew all the players (I can't tell you how many reviewers couldn't name one from another). This was really refreshing. :)
I was 13 in 1963 and I grew up with them. I have also been married for over 50 years. I feel the Beatles so personally I have a hint of jealousy when I see others loving them. It is strange. I both love and hate sharing them. I always felt they made their music just for me. But I suppose everyone feels that way. They were universal but also so personal.
it's a wonderful thing when people of your generation can like and appreciate the Beatles the way you do. Also, did you notice when Ringo was playing next to his younger self, they were hitting the drums on the same beat. Great care was taken when producing the video.
You have a subscriber in me!!!! I grew up in the 90's so I didn't grow up with them either. Like you, John Lennon was the one that made me a Beatles fan. The Beatles are my favorite. Keep it up!!!!
This is my favorite reaction to this song and video yet! You get it. John’s last words to Paul were “Think of me every NOW AND THEN, old friend.” And that’s why Paul never gave up on getting this song made. Paul is playing that slide guitar, as a tribute to George. They also used old harmonies from their songs ‘Because,’ ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘Here, There and Everywhere,’ which helps give it that classic Beatles sound. Perfect song. Perfect video. Perfect finale. And don’t get me started on the final bow and fade out at the end of the video 😩 (PS - I’m one of those Macca girls 😉)
okay wow I was wondering how they managed to get that sound so on point again, using old harmonies is genius. I knew the guitar sounded like George but Paul being the one to play it is even crazier🤯thank you for your kind words
@@lifeofdariius I am a PAUL girl too, well Old lady now, LOL and STILL a Paul "girl" at 76, almost 77. Have been since I was 16/17 years old in 1964 when they first came to the USA. Paul has a lot of BEAUTIFUL songs too, "AND I LOVE HER," "YESTERDAY, " "HERE, THERE and EVERYWHERE," "I WILL," "FOR NO ONE," to name a few of his ballads. Then "Lady Madonna," "Back in the USSR," "I've Got a Feeling," "OH DARLING," and "HELTER SKELTER". If you played to someone that doesn't know the Beatles, "Here, There and Everywhere," Or "I WILL" (or both) and THEN play immediately AFTER those, "HELTER SKELTER" AND "OH DARLING", they would never know that they were sung by the same man. Paul had the best vocal RANGE of all the Beatles. He can sound like a different man, depending on the song. Have you heard his "MONKBERRY MOON DELIGHT" off his "RAM" album? Talk about SHREDDING his voice! He also has a lot of wonderful solo songs and with WINGS, throughout his career. The main thing is, we had 4 men with very different voices that blended SO beautifully together. It was awesome. They have been the soundtrack of my life. Now, it is 2024, and on FEB. 9th this year, it will be the 60th ANNIVERSARY of their first live TV appearance in the US on "The ED SULLIVAN SHOW" broadcast on Feb, 9, 1964, I was 16 that night, became 17 exactly a month later on March 9, and was madly in love with them and their music, but my guy was and still is Paul, but I loved them all too, but to me there was something "extra" in Paul that I loved a bit more. LOVED YOUR REACTION Dariius, and that you are also a BEATLES FAN TOO, I wish you could have been around the same time we older fans were. You would have LOVED it. Pass down your love of the Beatles to your friends and children, if you ever have any. Keep their music alive, as we "first generation fans" will soon be gone. We need you young people to carry it on. By the way, when I first saw the "NOW AND THEN" video the day it dropped on Oct. 4, 2023, I SOBBED through it, and couldn't stop crying for almost a half hour after. It brought back SO MANY MEMORIES. I have watched it again and again with so many other reactors, shedding tears with EACH viewing. I am just now starting to hold it in after about 40 viewings. But that FiRST one REALLY GOT to me, especially when I first saw all FOUR of them standing next to each other, and their BOW at the end (which is from their first movie "A HARD DAY'S NIGHT") and then they slowly fade away and the lighted BEATLES sign goes out. I TOTALLY LOST IT. ROCK on, and STAY SAFE!!
It really warms my heart during these difficult times to know that there’s new Beatles fans in the making every day. I admire anyone who keeps their music alive and knows their relevance will forever remain. I didn’t become a big Beatles fan until I was around 10 in the mid 80’s. I’ve been there since. ✌🏽❤
You mentioned that the Anthology was a big thing for true Beatles fans. But it was actually also an introduction for a new generation. I grew up hearing Beatles music but it was Anthology when I was 17 that got me “into” The Beatles. They are a band that generations discover, and I think Now and Then is another entry point for some people. One of the best nights of my life was taking my 8 year old daughter to see Paul perform live last year. We were row 6, and in order for her to see she stood on her seat for 3 hours dancing to and singing every song. That was a magical night for both of us. I really enjoyed your video, and loved your Abbey Road video as well!
You witnessed a beautiful time in history. Not too many people born after John passed would have ever dreamed of a new Beatles song. And in 2023, history happened. The Fab 4 gave us a beautiful goodbye song.
Love your reaction, I felt the same way! The Beatles were just so good, and their story how they came together and took the world by storm is just amazing.
Darius, I am really enjoying your Beatles reactions! I just subscribed tonight, on your Abbey Road reaction. You totally get it, bro, and I appreciate you! Hey, question: you said you've seen all the documentaries. That's great! I've seen all of them as well ("The Beatles First U.S. Trip" and "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years" are my favorites), but have you also seen some of the good/great dramatic films of or about the Beatles? There are some really great ones, such as "Backbeat', "Nowhere Boy", and "Across the Universe"! Have you seen some of those? Also, the Beatles films, such as A Hard Day's Night and Help! are totally awesome too! Good stuff, Darius, thank you!
Am probly a little older than you but not by much and I like you am a Beatles junkie thanks to my Dad, many uncles and cousins on my Tally side (black moms Tally Pa, best of both worlds G!) who were constantly pushing them on me and I got hooked. Have binged listened to all their albums and have all their songs A-Z on my playlist, no lie. What a thrill to discover a fellow Beat-les crackhead bro lololol and ol! K enough with the hood rat lingo 😁 but seriously they are true magical geniuses the likes of which will never ever be seen again. And you are quite the engaging one am jealous of your maxed out charismaticness bro 😎💯 And my God, this song and vid just makes me bawl like a baby just thinking about it. God bless Paul, Ringo and Yoko Oh-No! and company for creating this and John for writing and singing it and sweet George for contributing. Man you keep up this s**t and you will be at 100+k in no time bro to the bro bro bro! 👍🏾
Man you should definitely read the book called "tune in" by robert lewishawn. Its part 1 of a 3 part series, but it goes from the time the beatles were born till 1960 right before they blew up, other two books havent come out yet, but its THE beatles biography
You're right the 1995 anthology session attempt to do the song is included on film here. You also nailed John saying the opposite about having the voice of an angel... he actually hate the sound of his voice on recordings and almost always had George Martin, the Beatles' producer, double track his voice [so there were two of him singing in unison (same notes)].
man if you havent yet you gotta check out that original demo from now and then if they wouldve followed the origianl song format it wouldve been even better. still epic and i love this version, but you wanna talk about haunting. that demo tho
Nice reaction! I enjoyed seeing someone obviously into the band, knowledgeable about them and their history and their impact on music and society getting a chance to experience a NEW Beatles song, just released. probably never happen again, and you were here for it!
Isn't it incredible that the moment their music grabs you, you somehow get sucked into finding out everything about their story? It feels inevitable. In the end, story and music compliment one another, one enriching the other. Loved the reaction.
The music still has such power to touch the souls of so many successive generations. It's also great that you did the work and checked out some documentary's too, which put the massive leaps they made in popular music into context. I get that a lot of folks may not like all they did, some appreciate the simpler love songs, others the experimentation. But if anyone say they don't like The Beatles, which Beatles era do they mean? Maybe they've heard a couple of songs and think that's all their style was. It's either they don't understand their global influence on all the music and culture that came after them, or they are just being contrary for the sake of it. The whole thing of the Beatles was their constant inventiveness, restless progression, diverse styles and unfailing memorable melodies. The last of those attributes is something that I find sadly lacking in most contemporary music, even the best of it seems to be happy with a four bar chord sequence that just repeats. The Beatles understood the craft of songwriting and maintaining the listeners interest with such creativity and taste.
Man Darrius, I just discovered you on your Abbey Road reaction, so I came over here to see your reaction to "Now and Then", and I gotta tell you, this is my favorite reaction I've seen to this song! Authentic Awesome reactions! You'll build a lot of subscribers with that ability! And I recommended in the comment section of that reaction that you go down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole, and I hope you consider it. The Beatles are the Goat, but I know you'll dig Led Zeppelin because they fall into that "Greatest Of All Time" category as well. Peace
that's so appreciated I definitely found my lane on here thanks to y'all. I'm going through comments taking all suggestions I'm most certainly gonna check out Led Zeppelin this coming week that's another name I hear ALL the time without knowing much of their music
@@lifeofdariius Awesome! I really look forward to that! One suggestion. Once you start doing Led Zeppelin, you are going to get a ton of requests in your comment section to react to live Led Zeppelin performances. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as you do the reaction to their studio recording first. Led Zeppelin were very improvisational live, and the songs would change from night to night, often with long jam sessions in the middle of the songs. If you're not into that so much, stick to the studio recordings. They sound so much better and give you a better understanding of the true power and magic that was Led Zeppelin. Again, I would start with the album Led Zeppelin I and go in order from there.
Love your reactions! 🎉 I highly recommend going down the radiohead rabbit hole. Their records are works of art and have a lane carved out for each release. I recommend" in Rainbows" as an ice breaker, but going through the catalog is definitely a journey. Their fan favorite albums are: In Rainbows OK computer And Kid A Tho they don't have an objectively bad record. All the best, Michael.
They actually worked on Now and Then in the 90s but scrapped it, largely because George wasn't feeling it. That's why you have video footage of "The Threetles" working on it in the 90s.
I'm a drummer and from the first minute when I was 4.5 years old, I've went full on into the Ringo Camp. Beatles, solo, etc. Ringo all the way. Was a pleasure to see him side by side with his younger self in this video. Surreal. The ending bow and vanish gets you right in the feels.
Absolutely not saying they are equal, but you saying you love "haunting, but beautiful melodies," I have an artist for you to check out whenever you get a chance. I have not seen anybody react to any of his music just yet as he is still growing. He is my favorite artist to this current date... Joshua James. I HIGHLY recommend you check out his 2017 album, "My Spirit Sister." The opening track will have you HOOKED!
Bro, you remind me so much of myself. I stumbled across the Beatles a couple years ago, and just went all in. Seen all the docs, heard all the albums, watched all the live footage I can find, and I've read just about everything I can get my hands on. The video for Now and Then makes me cry EVERY TIME.
Great reaction, my man! I was 12 and living in Seattle when the Beatles burst on the scene in late 1963. They provided the soundtrack of my life ... and continue to. 😉🎸
Very nostalgic memories for me, I was fortunate to have seen the Beatles live in 1962, I was docked at Liverpool and was introduced to the Cavern club by a Liverpudlian shipmate!
I am pleased that Paul finally got around to doing this. However, it feels a bit limp to me. It sounds like John and George are missing in this realization of John's song. Sir George Martin's touch feels absent as well. Bottomline: If everyone were still around to see this through it would not have ended up sounding like this. On the other hand, it does feel like another 'first' for the band resurrecting John's voice off a badly recorded cassette. I don't believe anyone else has ever done that previously. Also doesn't feel like a song directed at Yoko. The story the PR people like to go with is that it is directed at Paul. That seems plausible especially since it is now common knowledge that John and Paul were seriously considering doing something together again in 1981 or '82.
First heard and saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in '64 when I was 10, and of course been a lifelong fan. In 1980 when John was killed, I remember Yoko asking people to have a moment of meditation for John's soul. I was living off grid out in the woods at this time, and I remember sitting on a mountainside thinking about John, and crying.
The demo tape was done in 77 by John at his home in NYC. Yoko gave Paul the tape with 3 songs. This one needed the AI and a combo Macca/Giles Martin production. The video by Peter Jackson takes it to another level. Nothing better than seeing young Paul mocking old Paul. Only Paul could be comfortable enough in his skin to have that. With all that said this is nothing without John's voice coming to light. One of the most unique and distinct voices in music history. You can tell every song John song because it's so distinct. This was a gift from the beyond and if it didn't bring tears to your eyes you have no heart or soul.
I am so glad I found your channel! First of all, your reactions are so genuine and amazing! I really love what you do. Also, I love what a tremendous Beatles fan you are because I’ve been a Beatles fan my entire life. I’m 57 years old and my dad introduced me to the Beatles when I was four years old. in fact, I first started listening to them in 1970, the year they broke up. Anyway, keep on doing what you do. You do it so well! Love your channel!
Great reaction. Do us a favour, balance your sound levels with the level of the video you're showing - had it pumping and then your voice came over and it was distortion city overload! Save my speakers - they're over 60 years old and still doing service. Thanks Man :)
