So true man! I live in Sydney Austalia and back then they had a cult following here but some had never heard of them , my response was friggin what planet were you sold too!! lol...
They had their own airplane! I saw it at Boeing field in Seattle - It was either a DC-6 or DC 7 - I don't remember for sure. That was a very long time ago!
@@zombywoof1015 Most songs aren't. It's coming up with what works that is the real heavy lifting. Can play most any cover out there, can't write anything. I sing while drumming some, harder. Coming up with stuff that likes to be heard? That's what's amazing too me..
MARK, DON, AND MEL...HELL YEA...finally saw the power trio in 2012 at The Fairplex in Pomona, I was exhausted by night's end, thanks for all the amazing music through my youth...
For those of you that just listened to this, I'd like to congratulate you. You've just listened to the greatest rock and roll band ever. It'll be extremely difficult for any band to top these God gifted guys. After playing the drums for nearly 50 years in two different bands and playing in night clubs around Ocean City MD as well as Washington DC ard opening up for a few well known rock bands in the late 70s throughout the early 90s I met lots of drummers. Out of all those great drummers only a small handful could play and sing at the same time. It can be difficult for most drummers but it's definitely not the case here. Love you guys. Rock on.
You're so right Had Blown away Led Zeppelin 69 Olympia Manager Grant Unplug them Cause they were that good The fans went crazy Almost had a riot No more warm up band after that
Saw GFR in Madison Square Garden in NYC in 1971. When Mark Farner jumped off the piano my whole world turned upside down. First date with a new girl and 48 years later we are still rockin! Great memories
REMEMBER ME!! I AM STILL YOUR BIGGEST FAN WHATS NOT TO LOVE ITS ALL GOOD HERE I MET YOU ALL IN ALBANY OREGON WENT BACKSTAGE YOU GUYS ROCK YOU BUNCH OF RICHIOUS HUMAN BEINGS!! BLESS YOUR BEAUTIFUL HEARTS!
-I remember I was in my early teens when I heard this band the first time and I have never stopped listening it, I am now 57 and I think this is one of the best rock bands of all times. LOOOVE ROOOCK!!!
They are the best you can understand them and they got a beat that won't quit being love them since freedom Hall 73 Louisville Kentucky I'm 68 now still love you just too strong
This video reminds me why I started listening to Grand Funk Railroad in 1970 when I graduated from high school. Grand Funk Railroad indeed lives on in the band NRG. Hail to Mark Farner. This guy can still sing better than most rock singers even today in his 60's. What a killer voice.
When Grand Funk came out with this song back in the day, they showed all the critics they still had it. I'm 59 and remember it all well. Timeless song right here and only two short paragraphs of lyrics.
+displayfireworks1 i just turned 50, today i told my mother that i am going to see GFR on dec 12th at a casino in west virginia and let's just say she was a little jealous ..... i told my kids (all in their 20's) and they're jealous ..... this band is timeless and i'm one stoked human, can't wait !!
Got to meet Mark, and know him personally after inviting me, my wife, cousin, and her boyfriend onto his bus after doing a gig at The Barrel on Paradise in Vegas in1989 when we were living there. Needless to say he put on a great show, and is the most down to earth guy you'd ever want to meet and know. Keep rockin' Mark, and May God Bless you and your family my Christian brother!
Being a drummer of course I loved Grand Funk and remember putting this on full volume and destroying our neighbors with my drumming...Ahhh yes indeed...good days and times... lol
I saw them twice. First concert I ever saw in '73 and again on this tour. They were known for being CRAZY LOUD back in the day.......and they WERE!! As classic as it gets!!
Saw grand funk for the first time at the Fillmore in NYC. They just released their first album they were for real and not fucking around. Blew me away. So Good , I decided to go to Shea stadium . Last big group there was the Beatles. God Dam they were hot........
Michael Daddario - I grew up in NYC in the 70's/80's but was too young to go to concerts until '77 when I turned 15. You're very lucky you saw them in their prime!
No one even close. They are IMHO the greatest power trio if not just the greatest band ever & i have their complete catalog, plus many many many bootleg live albums which are so good
In the 70's, I listened to GFR all the time. I remember hearing Mark Farner's hair was so long, it got tangled in the guitar strings of his Fender or Les Paul or whatever he was playing at the time.
Without Mark GFR is just a cover band. I saw the at a casino a decade or so ago and they played a sappy 38 Special song. I just wanted to leave right there and vomit🤮.
Of all the bands that have reunited over the years, this was by far my favorite. I had all but given up in any chance to see Grand Funk & this was news to my ears. I was lucky enough to catch 3 of their shows & they were incredible! Would have been a bargain at twice the price.
