Awesome video! I really appreciate your attention to detail like the nut/bolt sizes and walking through the process step by step! Bummer that your wheels are rubbing, but I’m sure you’ll get that sorted. Looking forward to the next in the series and the completed project! 👍

There are short shock absorbers specifically for lowered cars that I have thought of using. The problem with them is on air you still need a long stroke. I have a couple ideas but haven’t made a final decision yet. Next weekend I’ll be tackling that head on.

I haven't messed with one personally but from looking, it doesn't seem like it would be that hard. Bag cups for the frame, and plates for the control arm. A little bit of fabrication surely but there's readily available stuff to make it work i have not doubt.

I was looking into doing this and uh, do you think a smaller airbag would be the solution and provide enough clearance for the swaybar? Like a SS-5 (5.5in) or SS-6 (6in)? I was thinking this because the airbags he is using are 7in diameter and the ones used in the ridetech kit are 6.5in.
@lucasplank5905
@lucasplank5905 10 месяцев назад
@@NutkeyDoesMinecraft it's a good possibility. I mean I've seen posts about the sway bar hardware hitting the bag even on the Ridetech setup so it's possible that going down just that ½"might be enough with shaving the hardware down. The only problem at that point is htf do you mount shocks? I've ridden in bagged cars with no shocks and oof if all I can say. Feels like riding a super sized pogo stick lol
@NutkeyDoesMinecraft

@@lucasplank5905 Yea, I didnt even realize the shock problem until I was looking more into it today... That kinda crushes the feasibility of this adapter.

Without the sway bar BUT WITH shocks I think would be a vast improvement. I currently am running no sway bar or shocks on my CV and it sucks! The rear has blown shocks with a sway bar and it's not terrible. I been looking into getting (HK suspension on eBay) bag bellows to go on the factory struts. I removed my inner wheel liners and installed a 2" block bottom of my bag (using the same setup as the video) so if I were to blow a line or bag the wheels will not lock up on the upper "frame rails" of the fenders. (For the blocks I used a front leveling kit from a 06 F250 since I had them from my truck already and they worked mint! Just a bolt through the middle.) The only way I'll be happy adding socks would be to do some kind of cantilever setup and I don't think there's enough room to do so. Anything else is going to look hacked up or going to interfere with turning radius. I don't like the ride techs because servicing I can only imagine is proprietary and not cheap as $1000+ is dumb for what you get in the first place. I have a PI so my rear bags are different than what I see everyone else doing, I am using 2600 bags in the rear, I cut the spring perch off and welded a new bag mount on the axle and welded a top bracket to my frame (used brackets sold for trucks with the "wings" cut down and spaced then according to my set up. I don't think the factory bags will yield much use and they aren't cheap. I haven't found what shock to run but I'm going to just get factory replacements and make a drop bracket to hang lower on the axle or build a new upper mount so the shocks don't just blow out when dropped. Be interesting to see what you all are doing or planning. Now that they have 12mm bellows I'm interested to see if that works. Otherwise I was thinking of finding some cheap coilovers to play with to do those coil bags that the bottom threads on the body. There's already a company that makes drop brackets for the bottom mounting bolt so with those and the bellows I think it would get plenty low and be a nice stable ride. Front sway bar I think might work also with that set up. These bad brackets have such a big gap from the top and I believe those below bags will not contact the upper factory mounting perch. Any of you have any insight, if you are able to follow what I'm saying that is! 😂

Hello, I have a '06 Grand Marquis but it doesn't have air suspension nor the switch button for it in the trunk. Is it possible to install the original air suspension onto a GrandMarquis that never had it from the start (I just want mine to have the original air ride)? Or is it easier to buy one that already's got one on it?
@robs_garage4790
@robs_garage4790 2 года назад
The factory air suspension was for the rear only. It is very easy to mechanically convert the rear to the factory style air suspension. Wiring in the factory stuff to make it work as intended is a hefty job. The relay box under the hood for example, has the spot for the air compressor relay, but no wiring in the car for it.

05 Grand Marquis here; at a shop to install the full stock system to a non-air car will probably be $2000+, I swapped from air to coils instead of repairing my air system when it went, and while the air suspension was fine (when it worked) the coils also ride just fine, the main feature of the air ride is mostly just the auto-leveling so unless you really want that probably better just to keep it as is. If your rear suspension is riding poorly it is inexpensive to do the springs shocks and control arms which will make a lot of difference if yours are shot now...

Depends also. Some bags have internal bump stops. As long as there is room for the bag to fully compress at full articulation, it will bottom out the same. But you may get more lift that way when aired up.
@commonsenseisdeadin2024
@commonsenseisdeadin2024 7 месяцев назад
@@dan1053I installed a leveling block from a 06 f250 under my front bag. This made it so the tire does not contact the fender frame rail which is the limiting factor of how low you can go. I did this so if a line blew or bag popped it wouldn't lock the front tires up and I'll be able to pull over safely...... Next, wide body so I can steer more than a few degrees 😂
