Pit stops took long, not that the mechanics were particularly slow but they also did not seem to try to be as fast as technically possible at the time - It seems as if arriving at all was almost more important than in which time you arrived..

Just going about their jobs for the companies they represent--that is the factories & nation's participating--as I Heard near the end, just before the beginning of World War II.
