@@Fizhy I have fond memories of GTAIII release, I was 14 so even getting my hands on the game was quite an achievement and I felt like a super-villain to play a game which you are not supposed to play at the age of 14. I got the def. editions recently in a discount and ... well, at least I am able to run them (even on Linux) and re-live the memories. Honestly, if I didn't have fond memories of the era, if it wasn't for the nostalgia, it probably would've been quite underwhelming for me... I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more videos from you if you decide to play other instalments :) .
I bought this game when I was a junior in high school. In fact I bought a PS2 just so I could play it, the was absolutely groundbreaking back then. I also played GTA and GTA 2 on PC.
I appreciate that. I also have to pitch you check out this channel: www.youtube.com/@CYBERBOIUK Another creator with a heavy Rockstar games focus well worth your time.
Claude Speed is GTA 2’s protagonist. GTA III’s Claude is just Claude from all official sources from my understanding, though fans do often call him Claude Speed, so I wouldn’t blame you for doing the same.
@@GhostRider-on6bz There's other RU-vidrs who, for some stupid reason, pronounce his name like 'Cloud'. I guess they've never seen or heard of the name 'Claude' before. I have no idea what they're issue is.
I was 8 when it came out, and I remember playing it at a family friends house. I was obsessed. My parents got me a ps2 that Christmas as I wouldn't stop going on about it, even when they got me the original GTA for the ps1 as I'd already saw the other side and the grass was way greener! Vice City was my fave out of the first two 3D games that I got in dual cover. I still remember the weapons cheats off by heart. San Andreas is fantastic too, both very dear to my heart
This game for me and so many was just incredible and a gateway into the GTA series. The ability to drive around just blew me away! Great video mate! A lot of memories with this one
I was around for GTA III, but my parents were very much against me playing it at all. While I somewhat understand where they were coming from now I'm an adult, I think they treated it as far more sinister than it really was, given they were okay with me playing first person shooter games. I can say that it was really groundbreaking for its time, and I'm sad that I didn't get to experience it at its time of release, because I feel like I missed out on a piece of gaming history.
I understand that the checkpoint system was mainly just part of the framework for developing all 3 of the remasters, but to only use it in like the last mission of 3 in particular felt a little disappointing. It was pretty nice in San Andreas too
I enjoyed that, it was a great review. Idk anything about the game but its a fizhy video so its a must, unbelieveble that your only 2 yrs older than me. I feel.so.childish now for some reason
03:01 it wasnt uncalled, Catalina got in the spank business with miguel, by doing so she quit bank robbing and therefore she didnt need claude anymore, claude was a loose end. as she says "I'm an ambitious girl and you're just small time"
Restarting the whole mission isn't that bad tbh. I kinda wish it was still like that because some games are just too easy anyways and even easier with checkpoints.
I love GTA 3 but yea... The game does not age well. But, it walked so the rest of the GTA Franchise could run. Major props to 3 because without it, I can't imagine the GTA Franchise would have been the same.
Back then Silence Protagonist was still something that could help with the data size and was still "Acceptable" but this trope of gaming must end. The idea that you can put yourself into the character because he doesn't talk in highly cinematic games is completely stupid. Do you need a main character in a movie to not speak so that everyone can feel like they are the protagonist? Today, a silent protagonist makes the game feel old from another era. It's literally my biggest grip with Baldur's gate 3, that they didn't voice record your character sentence... yet in this game i can accept it cause the character still speak even if you don't hear what he said, it would have made the cinematique even longer hearing yourself repeat what sentence you took. But in a fully cinematic game without any multiple choice conversation, it feel half bake. But what if feel should be sent to hell is game that does half and half. Having fully voice cinematic and then switching to text reading conversation (I'm looking at you 90% of the Japanese made game). This kind of stuff felt so bad in Breath of the wild. Link was always a silent hero... but in the last two game, in cinematic, everyone talks yet Link still only nod 100%. He never felt so bad before cause everything was in text. I don't mind text game, but if you go for voice acting, you should go full on voice acting, not haft and haft.
I understand going with the Defective Edition cause of the trouble with emulation. However I IMPLORE you to give the original release a go. GTA III has an atmosphere unlike no other. Dark, foggy, dirty, and gloomy. At times closer to a horror game rather than an open world action game. And with radio stations like MSX FM, K-Jah, and Rise FM really tie it all together. The defective edition is far too shiny and clean...
man a good half of these problems are unique to the "definitive" edition. the original PS2 version is the real definitive edition. this shit remaster somehow made it look more dated than the original itself with its cartoony graphics overhaul
Man these "definitive editions" look like absolute shit and completely ruin the original visuals. Sad Rockstar put out such poorly designed versions for new players.
GTA 5 is the most overhyped game ever. It lost that GTA charm and tried too hard. Trevor is like Heath Ledger’s joker. Fans ruined both characters for me.
This was a birthday gift on the Xbox when I was a kid and it wouldn't load pass the first cutscene. I just moved onto vice city at that point, but I did manage to play and beat all the series games aside from 4 cause we don't talk about 4.
I only ever played this at my friends house because he had a PS2 (I had a GameCube) so all I ever really did was just do random mayhem, so it wasn’t until Vice city came out that I actually played the missions and cared about the story, though, for me, the motion blur in Vice City was so bad I had to turn it off in the options because it made it nearly unplayable, especially when it rained, but San Andreas was and is my favorite GTA game
this game was my life as a kid. last year i decided to replay the entire thing and yeah ... i miss my nostalgic view of it lol but its still a great and incredibly important game
I recently replayed GTA 3 on the PS2 and I personally loved it I think it holds up well. The original not having a map actually made it more fun for me having to use the physical map and learn my way around was a real fun experience.
I got the og game working fine on my PC, no need for the Defective Edition unless you want some of those quality-of-life features like instantly restarting missions from a checkpoint after failing.
You think having to restart the mission was a hassle? In the original you had to drive all the way to the mission marker and resupply with ammo and equipment if you loose it.
7:58 it looks aged? it looks cheap like a mobil game, which it is. a mobile game, the Definitive Edition. made for mobiles. but the OG indeed looks aged.
The remaster made the game worse, procceds to use the remaster. If everyone only plays the remaster doesn't that mean it's better than the original, and don't say it's more accessible, it isn't, you can find the original in the same stores at a cheaper price.
Dude at the ammo shop is British bc that dude is a reference to one of the Hauser brothers that worked on the game... i think it is Sam... cant remember exactly tho
maybe they fixed it. but i thought the updated graphics were supposed to be trash...i havent played this game in almost 20years and it looks way better then i remember it
Even though it wasn’t trying or intending to be, I think you can see in this the blueprint for what the GTA series would be about in this game - a wide open world allowing as much player choice and agency as possible within a recognisably realistic city, fun and engaging gameplay, a wide variety of cars you want to drive and a story exploring/satirising contemporary American culture through the eyes of a member of its criminal underworld. In many ways, GTA V is unrecognisable from the game released twelve years prior but it also undeniably shares many similarities and appeals which show why the GTA franchise has remained such a mainstay of gaming for over two decades now. Especially taking into account that this game was a de facto reboot of the series in a new dimension- quite literally- what this game succeeds in makes it worth revisiting whether you have personal nostalgia for it or no in spite of its technical limitations or other shortcomings.
Silent protagonists are a tricky thing with games, because you have to know that this is what you want to do with it, as it’s not like you can change the artistic direction of a game’s protagonist midway through production then hire/fire someone so pivotal. And that decision will effect everything about how a player interacts with this world as it will change whether they’re seeing it through their eyes or the character’s. If the MC doesn’t speak, then the player will be absorbing a lot more about the people around them instead of any potential journey or arc their character could be on. Some do try to do both, like Fable which gives a traumatic backstory for why the Hero doesn’t speak while still having a compelling story and arc, but this is hard to pull off as you need to give the player enough reason to care about a person they’ve never heard express a single thought or emotion instead of viewing them merely as a mirror through which they’re playing in the world and imagining what they’d say in those situations instead of what the character should say. Does Claude succeed? Idk, I didn’t play III. 😂 But it’s definitely an interesting angle to consider nevertheless as committing to that decision shows so much about the artistic process of the devs, what they thought about this story and what they want you to be feeling about it too.
GTA III is a definite classic and one that’s worth going back to every so often. Great video man, keep up the great work and have a great day. Take care!
Good man Fizhy 😊thanks again for another fantastic humuris and brilliant critique of one of my favourites from back in the day thanks for the memories brother me and my best friend played this to death GTA 3 hasn't age well but it's still a great game , keep up the great work much respect my friend i love your content brother 😀 GTA is my favourite game franchise
Imagine Claude's voice was high pitched that's why he doesn't want to speak at all because then no mob boss or gang member would take him seriously 😂😂😂
its so sad that the only way to play these old games legally is to also have their art styles ripped from them with a bunch of new bugs added. i thought the definitive editions looked fine till i went back and played the originals modded. its night and day.
This game was so good that when it was released, I played it all night and most of the next day, and the system melted the disc. Then, I had to wait a couple of days for the stock to get back in to swap it out. There was no such thing as pre-orders then, lol. It was driving around store to store and hoping someone still has a copy.
If they remastered it in an authentic manner I probably would have given it a go, but I think I'm happy to never play it in my lifetime tbh unless someone slaps a PS2 in front of me and makes me play it in its original state
