Still wish those PC ports of Liberty City and Vice City Stories weren’t ndaed and shutdown by those Take Two assholes. It would’ve had custom soundtrack ability, 4K support, 60 fps. All the bells and whistles.
One of my greatest memories in life was playing GTA 3 and gun with my dad everyday after school. When I got older I played liberty city stories myself and was thw first gra i ever completed.
I had an ex who’s sister looked exactly like maria, but had katarina’s exact personality, she was completely nuts and out of control. I hated her so much 😑
33:47 He was a cannibal in GTA III. In a mission with Ray Machowsky t's mentioned he's been seen at a morgue party and he makes you destroy the evidence, wich leads to unlocking him as a mission giver.
This was my first GTA and it's amazing to see someone give it the attention it deserves by doing a deep dive into it all these years later. Great work man!
Blew my mind when I loaded up Dissidia 012. I tried it as a "screw it, maybe my machine can run it even though it can't run PS2 emulators" and BAM. Like, what the hell, yanno?
I loved this game. GTA III is my favorite 3D universe GTA game. Like you, I jumped at the chance to play a new game set in Liberty City and was seriously surprised.
I remember finding a used VCS for ps2 at gamestop in like 2006, never knew it was a psp first but was so excited to find that gem and go back into Vice City. Currently playing LCS for the first time lol.
@@Roscoe-111 I didn't do that well with VCS. There was a mission that I couldn't pass with prostitutes and a firetruck. It was a fun game up until that point. Lol. I actually played both LCS and VCS on PS2 first because I didn't have a PSP yet
Great video. I agree that Liberty City Stories is a very underrated game. For something so simple, it had a lot of features and an overall atmosphere that were different than GTA3. I also loved the architectural and geographical changes to the map - like the projects in Portland still being under construction, or the Italian district on Staunton Island.
After randomly stumbling upon your Bully review recently, I spent the next new days going through most of your catalogue. I have to say, I'm disappointed with RU-vid's recommendation system for not recommending you sooner! You cover so much stuff I'm interested in, especially the Digimon World games.
I miss Rockstar Leeds. When we were 16 we would drive up there and watch them playing GTAV most likely stress testing the online features before they dropped. So cool that team made this.
I played the hell out this game back in high school. While the longetivity of the DS was unprecedented, the PSP just had so much more narrative driven games. And a lot of them were absolutely fantastic. This game included…
This game for me is pure nostalgia, and I love it so much. I know it's not what holidays are for but when I was 13 or so I just remember being in Spain for a couple weeks with my family and playing this by the pool and it was glorious. No worries, no cares, just having fun 🥲
I played this and VCS on my first deployment. It was my first GTA and absolutely blew my mind. I still have the discs but play emulated every few years. Still incredibly entertaining.
Having unique character models for certain scenes is something we really take for granted nowadays. I ended up playing the game years after it came out and didn't even consider the ingenuity behind those small touches. This just demonstrates Rockstar's passion for paying attention to small details.
@@MrAdmvp, still wish they would work on the online like they do with gta, but people don’t buy the micro transactions as much in that game so they basically abandoned it, at least compared to gta online.
I played this after GTA 3, Vice City & San Andreas, but this was the first GTA I managed to beat since it didn't constantly freeze on me like the others so it's the most nostalgic for me.
So glad to say this is the very first comprehensive review of this game in YT! FuzzySlippers, you've actually been doing the GTA series the real justice it deserves in terms of ACTUALLY showcasing the stories, mechanics and moment to moment gameplay. Also, Liberty City Stories is one of the best handheld games of ALL TIME!!!
Salvatore dying after using the "pedestrians riot" cheat is probably not a deliberate anti-cheat but a consequence of the cheat's effect: everyone around Salvatore is hostile and will attack him.
I remember having this on the PSP. I can’t even imagine the hours I’ve dumped into this game considering the fact I only had three games for it at the time. This, The Simpsons game, and GTA Chinatown Wars.
Been binge-watching all of your videos. Keep up the excellent work. One thing to note though, Donald love has always been a cannibal. I'm gonna quote the wiki: "Donald Love is a cannibal, as seen during the mission Cam Pain, where he eats human ribs and describes human flesh as being like chicken, but more sentient."
Liberty City Stories was the first GTA i played. I remember when i finally played GTA 3 i was disappointed to see that there isnt really any main missions on the last island Shoreside Vale other than the ending.
Your stuff keeps getting better and better. I really enjoy your long formatted, 'looking back' type videos. Btw, not a lot of people talk about LCS, so it's extra nice seeing you talk about it. Take care and keep grinding, my gamer.
"Easy to pick up, play for a bit, and then put down." *Glares intensely at Armored Core PSP games.* I didn't own one of...any. No psp or AC games, but after getting into it last year before 6 was announced, I can say that you would definitely "pick up, play for a bit, and then put it DOWN." Great video by the way! Keep up the amazing work!
This was the first Grand Theft Auto game I played my brother just plopped it one day in front of me and I just started playing and hearing that theme song for the first time I was hooked
This was my first GTA game, at the time i didn’t had a memory card and had to put the console on sleep mode and don’t let its battery die or the game would be reset to 0 haha
I've been waiting for this video for a number of days. Your retrospectives are the best I've seen on RU-vid 👏🏼 LCS is my 3rd favourite GTA. The story and the Toney's personality is what really made me play it over and over again. I played the mobile port which is by far the best port among other GTA mobile ports. They kept everything intact with improved textures. I recently downloaded the pc version with texture mods. Haven't played it yet but don't expect to see many differences. Overall this game really exceeded my expectations.
@@Peewushshsh not entirely. Someone in the modding community made a PC ported version named RE:LCS. Just check it out on RU-vid and then download it online.
The 3D era GTAs were the best for me. I played and beaten every one of them. From GTA 3 to Vice City Stories. The newer GTAs look good and plays good but it feels like in terms of things to do, rockstar took a step back from what they did in SA. While GTA 4 had great story and characters, I find it hard to even finish it or play it for too long without getting bored. Not even the radio stations are interesting compared to the 3D eras except for integrity 2.0.
I bought LCS because i love Michael Madsen. Of course, to pinch pennies, Rockstar didn’t bring him back to reprise his role from GTA 3. That first mission i played sure was fun!
@@GabryyLG Well since we’re being “honest” here, I don’t give a shit what you think, and I didn’t solicit your opinion. The only “amateur” here is your mom. Post your own comment in the main thread stating your dumb thoughts and piss off, bitch.
@@maxim196 Aww, white-knighting for your boyfriend? What grade did you drop out of, bitch? I say what i want, to whomever i want, whenever i want. Piss off, beta.
liberty city stories was a great game but i can't understand one decision rockstar made, which is not giving players acces to helicopters even thought they are in the game and they are working properly since it's the same engine as vice city stories. You can even steal one from 25:50 of the film if you get to the roof from the other side.
that'd break the game though. the map is designed for foot and car travel. The buildings don't even have roofs. and, it'd make the map feel smaller. it'd ruin everything.
@@dedpxl They did it with vice city stories which has comparable map size. Also if the memory is issue they could scrap some things that are a waste of space like interiors of cargo ship and church. the roofs that are mostly copy/paste would not be a big challange for R*. additionaly it's fun to fly with helicopters in liberty city.
My introduction to Play Station and GTA. This was one of the first games I played on the psp, Need for speed: Most Wanted was the first. I still remember dying multiple times trying to drive down Sal's drive with no use of the break button or easing off the accelerator so ended up in the water 😂 and even my brother and dad did the same when they had a go lmao. I have a lot of nostalgia for the game. My favourite parts are the goofy characters and dialogue including the pedestrian one liners lol
The game was solid in the PSP. Remember playing this for hours just goofing around like spawning a tank and just cause chaos until the tank blows. Still one of my favorites from the PSP days.
I remember playing this on PSP when it originally came out, had a good time. Vice City Stories was also great, and even better my favorite character comes back in it and is was voiced by the same person.
My Favorite gta of all time. Liberty city in the 3d verse i just so atmosperic and perfectly fitting for the fucked up shit that happens. Dark, gritty and always raining. And the story, music, charackters is so well done. Excellent
No one puts hands on a made man's wife whatsoever. It is an actual death sentence by matter of the real life Cosa Nostra's policy. Maria's flirting would dangerous as hell, even if her husband wasn't the boss.
I never liked the mission where you kill Avery Carrington. I know that in story context he's just another target to Toni, but as the player you love that guy and it's a bummer to gun him down for a rich pervert to eat.
Honestly it’s why his death is “great”. We already made a connection with him, so shooting him feels wrong. And at the same time it explains why Love is what it is in GTA 3
Haaaa! "Slash" TV! Amazing reference to the old arcade game, SMASH TV, Especially considering that was the first thing I thought of seeing the camera angle and level layout. I bet this mission was made entirely with that in mind. XD
If you want to emulate the PS2 version, PCSX2 has released a beta v1.7 build. Performance is really good on this version for San Andreas, LCS & VCS. Doesn't make much difference for LCS gameplay-wise, but VCS is definitely better on PS2 with the extra content. I personally deleted my PSP (PPSSPP) copies of LCS and VCS and got the PS2 versions instead
Fun fact: there is a PC version made by fans almost from the ground up using PC GTA Vice City as base and exported assets from LCS that is really, really good.
Re:LCS is great for a casual playthrough of the main story, but it's missing some features, notably the Vigilante and Avenging Angels side missions. If you want to do a 100% playthrough, you'll have to play the PSP, PS2 or mobile version.
Always took Toni's mom to be a reference to Tony's mom from The Sopranos but maybe it's just coincidence that they're both impossible and try to have their sons killed.
This game and vice city stories were both great introductory to gta 3 and Vice city’s storyline however I remember playing it on psp and I felt like the story was okay but it’s confusing on who’s the antagonist but as for the amount of content it has is pretty good for a handheld
I first heard of this game since 2012, and by the time I get the chance of playing GTA Liberty City Stories on the PS2 and man I literally get the chills I got 100%. True Story.
I still play through VCS about once a year and I’ve been thinking about getting this again. I really wish I could get into the older ones but I get bored after about an hour of GTA2
