This was a great update. Not just on 4070, but the whole space! It looks like you folks are very well equipped for many different things now, it all looks really professional.

Great to see young people involved with 4070. Do you have a place for 4070 to run when the restoration is finished?

@jimgrant. Hello. I have felt the same way. I donate to Fort Wayne and love 765 and in fact did throttle time last year. I am frequently frustrated by what I perceive as lack of progress on 4070. Mind you - I said perceived. I agree that Strasburg would be extremely beneficial. I also realize the effort, work and learning from the work on 4070 by all the volunteers. It is priceless. 765 came back via volunteers. I'm certainly not one who could put wrench to steel but I have some business experience (30 years) and some passion for this engine. I would love to contribute any way that I can but it's difficult to know where to apply to pitch ideas for 4070 fundraising or business driving opportunities.

You know.. the locomotive crew if they were to fire up these older locomotives just really came alive for myself on another train.. now on this one, I'd not take the same crew, but yes. I feel the same about that man as well. I'd work as crew with him. My back is not fully healed though and listening to the elders.. I agree not yet ready go back to my job where this injury occured and get stronger for that day. However, I think the property where we currently live is what our older elders really don't like.. since the purchasing buy out statement to keep us together. Then of course it would be different, and a different hard hat for myself.. 🤷 so many ways to love all this when it comes to me. . . I just uhh need to pay rent, and stay where I am for, like I said AT LEAST 5 years when I signed the lease. . .

Can you put more information here about your upcoming open house or point us to it here if I've missed it. I have Facebook but rarely look at it and even if I do I don't see your posts. Thank you.

Sunday, June 25 is the date to remember for Midwest's next open house. The roundhouse will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for guided tours and train rides through the yard powered by a 73-year-old RS-3 locomotive. This is the golden opportunity to inspect the 4070 up-close and in-person and ask your questions directly to the crew - and the open houses are also the only time you can purchase tickets for the $500 raffle in support of the 4070. Admission is available at the door; $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and children ages 4 and under tour free. All admission proceeds directly benefit the many projects at the roundhouse, including the 4070. Note that, as an active facility, the site is not ADA-accessible and open-toed footwear is strictly prohibited. Hope to see you there!

How long has this locomotive been under restoration

We've been becoming steadily more serious the last 3 years but there have been on and off efforts for years before that. One of the downsides of an organization with a dozen or so major areas of focus.

We started to take it apart in 2011 the time from 1992 till then the group was in no shape to rebuild a steam engine and it took a lot of years to find volunteers in this field. In the last 3 years we been planning on building up the shop and facility to get ready for the restoration of 4070.

Wonder what the new equipment will be
@1chuck96
@1chuck96 Год назад
Eh !!! Not much new here since last year at the same time, but I get it...Get 2100 out the door and hope "things" will turn around. First of all, "hope" is NOT a plan, yet I SERIOUSLY understand that your fan base value, (which is drying-up faster than the food you just ate). Look, I know of-your faith and dedication towards this project as I'd be exactly the same way, but "Roundhouse" , (or any kind of), Rent "ain't cheap these days. Please tell me that you've looked into SOMEBODY who has the time and money that can bring her back to life. As mentioned from previous posts, Strasburg might be the first I'd contact, (if you haven't already). God Bless Ya'll and I apologize for being a "dick" here, but I have ZERO money and a donated laptop in which to be the "Central Scrutinizer", (from an old Frank Zappa album called "Joe's Garage"). Best of luck ya'll and hope things get better.

The American Steam Railroad leases and funds the 2100 from a private individual, not the Midwest Railway Presevation Society. The Midwest Society has to fund to completely renovate and rebuild the Roundhouse, work on passenger cars, and work on 4070 at the same time, American Steam Railroad just leases the equipment.

@@regularguy7266 thank you. Do you know if they have staff for promo/business planning? I'm not quite yet retired as a business systems analyst. I don't do mechanics but would love to pitch in so to speak on something that I can do. No offense if it already exists and I'm just ignorant of it.
@regularguy7266
@regularguy7266 Год назад
@H Sylvester if you want to volunteer or work for the society, and have the means to do so, go for it. I'm sure they do have individuals for Promo and Business, but the more people the better because then there's new ideas, new inspiration, and people can spread the word more about the society's efforts.
