Granddad Sandwich (our history) on Sandwiches of History⁣

Time for another sandwich of our history! This time I am trying out one shared with me by Morgan Childs. She says this sandwich of thick slice ham, thick sliced sweet onion (preferably Walla Walla, apparently), and Colman’s mustard was his favorite. And I gotta say, the only way it could more of a granddad sandwich is if the onion weren’t sweet.

Wow! This is amazing... I am really honoured you would try my suggestion, and I know Grandad would approve of your plus-ups for sure! Hahaha... this is amazing... I am really tickled! One small thing... I am the Morgan Childs in question, and I'm a man. I know Morgan is more common as a unisex name in the US, but... yeah... that's the only thing you got wrong. As long as those were Walla-Walla onions from Washington state, that's exactly how Grandad made it! Thanks, Barry!

Solid sandwich, yo! Simple but I imagine very flavorful. Unisex names are tricky. I am technically named after a great grandmother and my grandfather, both Brett. I had a friend named Kelly MacKenzie, which was a wee unlucky.

I always find it funny when Amerocans say British people don't like spicy food and completley ignore our addiction to English mustard.
@_Piers_
@_Piers_ Месяц назад
It'd be a crazy thing to say anyway, given our propensity towards Indian food.
@SlavicCelery
@SlavicCelery Месяц назад
Because spicy British mustard isn't that spicy (as someone who regularly uses it). British food, even including Tikka Masala and everything else, isn't that spicy. All things considered. Especially, if you've encountered Thai spicy. That's on a whole different level.
@mr.k7457
@mr.k7457 Месяц назад
In America the term spicy is mostly used to refer to capsaicin spice from peppers not mustard or other spices
@SlavicCelery
@SlavicCelery Месяц назад
@@mr.k7457 In America, spicy can refer to either, along with horseradish. Look in the midwest, some people think ketchup is spicy. So, let's be real.
@SlavicCelery
@SlavicCelery Месяц назад
That said, there is amazingly hot and spicy food in the midwest of the USA. It's not all bland. But some people in the region just feel that way.

As a Brit, all I can say is Coleman’s Mustard is just standard Mustard to us. We have pretty punchy mustard but you gave us the Carolina Reaper… go figure 😂

Reminded me that my dad always made a braunswieger sandwich: toasted white or wheat bread, butter, about a .25 inch spread of brausnsweiger and slices of onion.

That's some nice ham. I eat Colman's on ham (not on a sandwich) in tiny dabs, sort of like wasabi on sushi.

Simple classic, elevated with swiss cheese plus up. Raw onion & spicy mustard might have too much a nasal burning bite. I often blend Colmans mustard with a dijon or yellow mustard, to dial back that affect.👍
