Grandfather. Part III. Summer - Hay Making 

This is a real success story. A man who truly has everything. Through years of hard, passionate labor, Grandfather has beaten the system. A broken, highly disturbing system stuffed with greed, gluttony, unethical intent. It’s a fractured system designed to take as much as you can while you can, no matter the cost. This man is the true definition of success.

This Man's Man knows more about Life than most and he doesn't even need to say a word..... Absolutely Stunning

All you need to see of that man is the thickness of his fingers to know that he possesses the type of strength you can't build in a gym.

this should be a full length feature in the cinema. no dialogue like in this one.

Nature does not hurry anything, yet everything is accomplished.

That old gentleman is a mighty hard worker, and you can tell his loves his animals.

One of the healthiest lifestyles you can ever have.

My uncle worked his croft alone until his death in 2006 , he too had hands like shovels and a deep understanding of the land he also had an inner peace and strength ive never seen in anybody else, i will miss him always

This is the source of longevity, to living a long life. Sense of purpose, fresh air and in touch with the land. This man should live forever!

When I was a kid.. He brought me to his farm!! We'd fun in the farm.. He tells stories, he makes the best tea I still ever had 'cause I'm missing him so much!! When I saw this video!! It reminds me a lot of my grandpa.. I wish I could just lay on his shoulder, listening stories even till today.. I never missed anybody like I missed my grandpa! 😘 I know he's in heaven watching over me.. I can't wait to meet my grandpa soon.. Everytime I saw his farm!! It just turn me into tears.... Now he's gone! But never from my heart 💜❤ Can't stop loving you GRANDPA!! I miss YOU!!

My eyes are sweating. I lost my grandfather, who was the most beloved human in my life, above all others, 17 years ago. I was fortunate he lived until 92 and I had him for 35 years. My only child was born 6 months before he died and I am grateful he got to hold her. He spent his entire blue collar life literally serving others as a waiter and maiter de. It was my honor and privilege for me to spend the last 10 years of his life providing for and assisting him as he did for me all the years proceeding until that time. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of him, albeit briefly. Although it’s been 17 years since his passing, it’s still far to painful even to reflect on all my most fondest memories, let alone the painful ones that consumed his final years. My grandfather is entirely responsible for the man I eventually became. I imagine, because it makes my heart warm with happiness to believe it, that this “grandfather” in this video has profoundly impacted others as mine did for me. Cherish everyday and even every moment, because there’s only unimaginable and never ending grief when it’s gone. Thank you, I think, for this video.

Very rarely do I stumble across something so inherently great in its simplicity. A thing to be admired, I could watch a full length feature of this man. Wonderfully edited and shot.

My grandfather was a farmer in northern Minnesota from the early 1920’s until 1980. He loved his horses and never was a fan of tractors. Thanks for bringing back memories. I bet are very proud of your grandpa.

Back to the day when a man's word was golden and a handshake was as good as a man's word. This is the life that nature gives and you give back to nature. Was a true pleasure to watch this. Damn what an intro. My grandfather got up at the same time and as your grandfather does. He would wake up, drive from his home 45 minutes to his bush lot. Sit and boil some water and make a coffee while waiting for the sun to come up so he could get to work for the day. He went and worked like your grandfather every single day until he was 89. I still remember sitting in my deer stand and hearing the sounds of his axe splitting wood off in the distance during crisp autumn mornings. I would often stop hunting and just go and sit and talk to him. Thank you for this series

Oh my goodness!! Absolutely wonderful!! That was so awesome. That was precious! Made this grown man of 37 years almost cry. My own dear grandfather passed away like some 7 years ago. We we were very close. At his sunset yearshim and I would look out across the wheat fields of Kansas and watch some older men harvest there wheat. One his last comments was ( man I wish I could be out there with them working). Sadly this world's modern children are not learning to work. My lovely wife and I are trying hard to instill in our children the joy and values of manual labor. Our 13 year old daughter cooks complete meals from scratch by herself already. And our 10 year old helps me out side with my mechanic shop and cutting fire wood and such. Our 4 year old son helps momma in the garden and yard. As the rest of our children as well. Thanks again for this prec heart warming video!! If the rest of the world had these values, love, and patience it would be happier!!! Best wishes and God bless!!!

I grew up in the country. Birds in the morning, sticky wet grass at dusk. Taking a breath made you happy, excited to begin the day. I currently live on the outskirts of a mid-sized city, next to a busy state road. I have a river view but I feel too self conscious to sit on my porch because I have neighbors all around. There's no connection to nature, people are angry. Even the dirt is angry. I'm not sure if I envy the people who don't know what it's like to dig their toes into healthy earth, or if I wish they could.

The way he moves and holds himself when he does work show real efficient skill with minimal energy expended. Amazing

There are great many grandfathers and grandmothers like him left in Latvia. For now. I am lucky to have three of them. Still farming, logging, fishing and living off land.

Our kids need to have half the will that this gentleman has. Beats the hell out of X-Box. Our kids need to be outside helping people like this and learning from them not belittling them because they are old. Love this man and what he stands for. I bet he has no problem sleeping at night.

no telephone,no tv,no car,no stress,just pure life.Amazing.My childhod was the same and I miss it,very much and if I could I would buy the farm-small and just live on this way. Even that is hard work it is amazing . In the past people were better because of that kind of life,they comunicated instead watching phone,internet,tv and they respect nature and tradition and that is the only way to survive the world

I remember people like this from my childhood ( I'm 24 ). These are my grandparents and great grandparents that lived like this ( my last grandmother still does ). This is a great man, I wish him a long long life, may the Sky Father protect him.

One can just see the years of hard work etched in this Grandfather's features. Watching him work can make you romanticize the life that people lived and still live in the third world during the 1800s to the introduction of more modern farm equipment like tractors. It was and is a simpler life with many positives and some negatives . Some of us would like to go back in a time machine and walk in the footsteps of this Grandfather, I wonder if we could keep up and how long would we last.

What a treasure of a man. The strength, energy, and determination to do that kind of work day in and day out (and to keep up a beautiful property like that) is more and more rare. Great that his [great?] grand daughter can witness it.

One of the best videos on the tube. As an American with most ancestors coming from Germany and England to farm here in the mid 1800s this has a special feel to the simplicity but constant busyness that kept there lives full. Now with the modern jobs and farming having all the tech. All we do is sit on our ass most of the day. I resort to cutting hay with a scythe and hand tool woodworking to find a place to relax and remember my ancestors hard work. I drive through the local Amish community and see the fruits of there labor and see a lot of value in what was once the norm. Some of the comments went way off on here. Trying to disect a horse kicking or modern medicine.

That's the most worn scythe blade I've ever seen. I own several scythe's and can't imagine the number of years of use it would take to get a blade worn down like that.

I am very familiar with how that man feels at the end of a day. It's not a good feeling but I'm sure he or I would not have it any other way. I truly enjoy watching your videos. This is what a man looks like folks.

Thank you so much for sharing these few minutes with your grandpa. I knew men just like him in my youth. I worked along side those men. The equipment, the sounds are so familiar to me, including the darn flies that were bothering the horse. It is a hard but good life.

He don’t smile a lot but the love is there! Jacob, thank you for showing the world what honoring your elders means. The world may be turning very quickly BUT a life well lived is immeasurable! Just look at the the incredible amount of wood built up in that barn, probably enough for 10 years in that environment and we can’t even see through the end of the day, let alone a week or a month in our climate. This is so inspirational on so many levels. I thank you Grandfather, you don’t say much, but we all understand the loving message here. 💕 I love you too. ❤️💕

Very beautiful video. I take my hat off to your grandfather. Although I know of older tools from agriculture, but the "hay tuers" I did not know or the self-built "frequent" for the crumbs. So old agricultural machines, you only see in the museum. I think your grandfather has a great deal of knowledge that you can learn a lot from. There is a saying here, "sucking up like a sponge." I would try to "suck up" everything your grandfather tells you, otherwise it will be lost.
