Ian Chiforober LOL Here I am sitting in my office working away, MD of a large company, responsible for a large P&L and I watch this and suddenly I'm a 15year old kid and I can recite this word-for-word. Life's funny :)
Colin Wichman it is almost bringing tears to my eyes. I feel chills down my spine. Words can't even comprehend how I feel listening to this masterpiece. How can something be this great. Wow ur statement couldn't be stated any better truly remarkable masterpiece
Turquoise Trotter it brings tears to my eyes every time. The combination of Ramo's death, the love the crowd had for him, Ramo's dad finally realizing that his son had talent, Melle Mel's powerful lyrics, and Ramo's gf in the front row listening intently soaking it all in.
This is one of the most important songs ever made, regardless of music genre. Grandmaster Melle Mel was simply masterful. He expressed himself passionately and without profane and vulgar language too.
+nelson santiago Hey nelson, I'm 46 next week & still miss Ramo, seemed like yesterday when I would go the video store & rent this out every second Saturday ( well before DVD'S & copying video cassette's ) of course I have this CLASSIC on DVD......OL SKOOL HIP HOP BABY, peace amigo, greetings from Australia !
+Beeboy69 & Nelson Santiago...RAP MUSIC AND HIP HOP IN ALL HAS COME A VERY LONG WAY... THIS IS OUR EXPERIENCE AND EXPRESSION THAT CAN NEVER BE DUPLICATED TO THIS TRUEST FORM... MELLE MEL'S RAP PART USED TO SCARE ME..HOWEVER, MEL'S PART IS SOOOO TRUE AND IS MANIFESTING BEFORE OUR EYES.. I, AS WELL AS YOURSELVES, HAVE SEEN HIP HOP'S EVOLUTIONS, UPS AND DOWNS AND UPS.. ITS INFLUENCE ON ALMOST EVERY CULTURE REGARDLESS HOW THE REST OF THE WORLD TRIES TO SHUT OUT RAP AND HIP HOP CULTURE.. ALL THREE OF US HAVE SEEN HIP HOP BLOSSOM FROM ITS PARK AND BLOCK PARTY JAMS TO THE VINYL SPINNING AT CLUBS, TO THE BIG STAGES ACROSS THE WORLD. THE HIP HOP CULTURE GREW SO BIG THAT CORPORATIONS COULD NO LONGER IGNORE IT.. I STILL LOVE RAP, THE HIP HOP CULTURE AND EVERYTHING THAT COMES WITH IT. THERE ARE THOSE THAT STILL WISH THE CULTURE NEVER GREW UP SO FAST... PEACE....
+reeelup007BKNY reeelup007BKNY Well said & written brother......this is why I LOVE HIP HOP & why Melle Mel is in my opinion the greatest MC !Hip Hop doesn't care what colour you are & where your from.....if your down, your down ! It has taught me many things in life from how to respect your fellow man to educate yourself & your people & self knowledge ( past, present & future ) & of course to have a great time.....Peace, love, unity & having fun yeah ! If you use this tool in life ( HIP HOP & IT"S 5 ELEMENTS ) the world is your oyster & nothing can stop you ! Peace to you and HIP HOP lovers worldwide !
+Beeboy69 He lived on my floor in 1777 Grand Concourse in the early 80's. Used to treat us neighborhood kids cool. He kept a weight bench in his living room me and my crew used to mess with. Real solid cat. Ths Bronx was insane back then.
That dude was tupac on steroids!!!!!!! The realest ever!!!! Ah hell nah! “and don't be a slave to no computer"???? He saw the future! Look at us??? Gob bless you all that felt this song :))
mainmotto this was my favorite part of this movie how prophetic was he? He was really dropping knowledge but them niggas probably thought he was crazy back then. Now 30 years later look at the state of hip hop & the black community as a whole. Smfh a damn disgrace.
KHADIJAH CARTER I knoooooow!!!! Lol girl all I listen to now a days is old school r&b, throw back hip hop, 90s country, old school pop, and when the holidays roll around Christmas music! Lol I'm listening to the jets right now “Crush on you" :) I'm in another timeline
I remember when this movie first came out we were getting our allowance and have our parents taking us to the movies and dropping us off. At the end of this movies it gave us chills cause we lived in this era.
He was prophesying !!! Everything that he years ago is true . Don't no president really cares about us . Put everything in our neighborhood from drugs , guns , liquor stores on every corner and now migrants which they don't put in their own neighborhoods but teach every race to hate us .Then they find out they need us . Wake up everybody !!!!!!!!❤️🙌🙏💯
THIS AMAZING SONG NEEDS TO BE CRANKED UP TO THE HIGHEST VOLUME AND PLAYED FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO HEAR BECAUSE IT STILL RINGS TRUE SINCE IT'S RELEASE ALMOST 30 YEARS AGO!!! WE ARE REPEATING HISTORY, BECAUSE WE NEVER LEARNED FROM IT!!! THEY WANT US DIVIDED, AND KILLING EACH OTHER SO THEY CAN CONQUER US AND TAKE WHAT LITTLE RIGHTS WE HAVE...THIS HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT RACE, COLOR, AND/OR CREED, IT IS ABOUT POWER, GREED, AND CONTROL BY THE SO-CALLED UNTOUCHABLE ELITES!!! STAND UP FOR SOMETHING, OR YOU WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING!!! GOD BLESS US ALL!!!
“Foolish attempt to conquer the skies” “ ego maniac control sub righteous “ “Sound of the world caught on fire” “The leaders made an error and they can’t even look in the mirror” .....man this is poetry at its deepest level
🔥🔥🔥🔥This was my favorite movie as a teenager. But as a grown man and ex MC Mellie Mels verse was , is and will ALWAYS be hip hops GREATEST verse!!! It gets no realer than that!!!!💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I met this band in Norway back in 1984. They had a show on my disco dance place called Circus.. I even met Grand Master Melle Mel in person. I talked with him.
You can't get real hip hop like this man! When the shit was real and artists actually had something to say and could paint a picture with their words. I mean yeah, have fun, enjoy yourself, but all in all have somethin to actually speak about. That's what they did. You can't help but to feel every word he's saying. Remember when I watched Beatstreet when I was a kid and this popped up... favorite part of the whole movie. Crazy how this song is like 20+ years old and still relevant to today's problems. This here my friends is what I like to call, real music.
It is a crying shame that Grandmaster Melle Mel does not get mentioned in more top 10 MC discussions. You will NEVER convince me that there are 10 MCs better than Melle Mel - NEVER.
Beat Street, the king of the beat You see him rockin' that beat from across the street And huh-huh, Beat Street is a lesson, too Because ah, you can't let the streets beat you Uh! Well, a picture can express a thousand words To describe all the beauty of life you give And if the world was yours to do over I know you'd paint a better place to live Where the colors would swirl And the boys and girls can grow in peace and harmony And where murals stand on walls so grand As far as the eyes are able to see, ha I never knew art till I saw your face And there'll never be one to take your place 'Cause each and every time you touch a spraypaint can Michaelangelo's soul controls your hands Then serenades of blue and red And the beauty of the rainbow fills your head Crescendo colors playin' tunes Man why oh why you'd have to die so soon? Ashes to ashes and dust to dust Where the good die young is all thy must Cause as life must live death must die And the tears shall fall from the living eye Huh, teardrops fall for the state of mind Of the beautiful lady that you left behind In love and alone, but now you're dead And she still can't get you out of her head, huh More tears fall for all you've done Tried to be a good father to your only son But now who's gonna make sure that he's fed Put a shirt on his back and a roof over head? Tell me who's gonna dream the impossible dream Of the beautiful cities and the island's ? When your works of art brought into being All that the ghetto stopped you from seeing Bums on the sidewalk, garbage in the street Abandoned buildings, bricks of concrete The ladies on the corner are sellin that body And everybody wants a part in that party I'm hangin' out tough rockin' late at night Runnin' wild in the town of the neon lights You either play some ball or stand in the hall Huh, you gotta make somethin' out of nothin' at all I'm sittin' in the classroom learnin' the rules And it says you can't do graffiti in school That can't be wrong in the hallowed hall So my notebook turned into a big wall The heart of a lion and the courage of three And the mind of a man much wiser than me You're the soul of the brother who won't come back Who died in my arms on the railroad track Cause I'm caught in a rat race lookin' for my own space It gotta be a better place for you and me There's pie in the sky and a eye for a eye Some people gotta die just to be free You search for justice and what do you find? You find just us on the unemployment line You find just us sweatin' from dawn to dusk There's no justice, it's, huh, just us Still life urban masterpiece Your trademark was written on trains and walls A million dollar gift only God released Huh, and yet you got killed for nothin' at all So after this there'll be no more hard time No more bad times and no more pain No more chump change, none of that bull Just movies, museums and the hall of fame So all you hip-hops, get on up And let's take it to the top where we belong Cause the age of the Beat Street wave is here Everybody let's sing along, now come on And say hooo (Hooo) Say hooo (Hooo) And to let me know I'm rockin the microphone Everybody say Ramon (Ramon) Ramon (Ramon) Rrrrhaa! A newspaper burns in the sand And the headlines say 'Man Destroys Man' Extra extra, read all the bad news On the war for peace that everybody would lose The rise and fall, the last great empire The sound of the whole world caught on fire The ruthless struggle, the desperate gamble The game that left the whole world in shambles The cheats, the lies, the alibies And the foolish attempts to conquer the sky Lost in space, and what is it worth? Huh, the President just forgot about Earth Spendin' multi-billions and maybe even trillions The cost of weapons ran in the zillions There's gold in the street and there's diamond under feet And the children in Africa don't even eat Flies on their faces, they're livin' like mice And their houses even make the ghetto look nice Huh, the water tastes funny, it's forever too sunny And they work all month and don't make no money A fight for power, a nuclear shower A people shout out in the darkest hour Sights unseen and voices unheard And finally the bomb gets the last word Christians killed Muslims and Germans killed Jews And everybody's bodies are used and abused Huh, minds are poisoned and souls are polluted Superiority complex is deep rooted Leeches and lices, and people got prices Egomaniacs control the self-righteous Nothin' is sacred and nothin' is pure So the revelation of death is our cure Peoples in terror, the leaders made a error And now they can't even look in the mirror Cause we gotta suffer while things get rougher And that's the reason why we got to get tougher So learn from the past and work for the future And don't be a slave to no computer Cause the children of Man inherit the land And the future of the world is in your hands So just throw your hands in the air And wave em like you just don't care And if you believe that you're the future Scream it out and say oh yeah (Oh yeah) Oh yeah (Oh yeah) Rrrrhaa!!!!!
Wrong version, you forgot 1,2,3,4 Just let me know what you came here for, and just clap your hands everybody, and let me know that I’m not alone, and if you knew my man when he was alive scream it out and say Ramon… “RAMON” Ramo… “RAMO” I’m talking about ASHES TO ASHES AND DUST TO DUST WHERE THE GOOD DIE YOUNG IT’S ALL THY MUST AND THAT LIFE MUST LIVE AND DEATH MUST DIE AND THE TEARDROP FALLS FROM THE LIVING EYE, Tell me who’s going to dream the impossible dream, of the beautiful city’s and the islands seem, that your works of art, brought into being, all that the ghetto stopped you from seeing. Still life’s urban Masterpiece, your trademark was written on trains and walls, a million dollar gift only God will leave, huh, and still you got killed, for nothing at all. MELLE: Decau, Ostwich, Hiroshima, a Vietnam, Leningrad, Iwo-Jim’s, Okinawa, Korea, The Phillipines, Devestation death catch the killing machine.
AND YOU CAN by watching Kyle Reese Hotwire a stolen car in The Terminator 1984! It’s going to ALL COME BACK TO YOU when THIS SONG starts playing on the radio. It’s the original Terminator movie with the it’s future prediction wrapped up in a nutshell
I watched this movie when I was a kid I’m now 43 years old and I have been an avid follower of hip-hop my whole life. This is my first time really listening to his verse. I’m blown away by how much knowledge Melly Mel was droppin.
Amazing how it stands the test of time. They knew we’d never learn anything from our mistakes. Melle Mel and the other guys were simply prophetic. Man, his rhythmic feel and percussive rapping is just to die for!
My Mom introduced this movie to me at the age of 12. I wish I would’ve appreciated it the way that I do now. Such a power l film. Melle was ahead of his time! That’s hip hop! ♥️
"And if the world was yours to do over, I know you'll paint a better place to live!" I get chills every time I hear that verse. The depth he went to describe his graffiti talent. Melle Mel is the goat hands down!!!
At first I thought this was silly, then I paid attention to the lyrics and realised how amazing and relevant these words are even to this day. As a race, we've learnt nothing,
Honestly …. compared to black thought, Royce 5’9”, Eminem, Rakim, Aesop rock, Kendrick, JID, j Cole, should I continue?…. It’s mid grade and the rhyme schemes aren’t complicated at all … you might like this type of rapping better, I can dig it … it was a simpler time … but bars don’t have to be complicated to be impactful Either …. Mel rips it …. For an 80s rapper ;)
I can listen this 1 million times. The true hip hop rules! Grandmaster Melle Me is real. I hope a remake. I'm 49 and still loves this song until today.
Why isn't he talked about more? I feel like hes one of the most recognized mcs but nobody knows about him. He has the best style and voice in my opinion of all rappers.
The world changed so much since I was 15 during this time that I look at this and cry like a grown ass man who’s lost this world and all the people I loved in it.
President Melle Mel He identifies all the problems we have-egomaniacs control the self-righteous, military costs run in the zillions, President just forgot about Earth! Younger boomers need a candidate with this message in mind
I'm hurt at 38 years old I never heard this. Melle mel verse was some of the greatest art I've ever witnessed and heard. This is the type of content that should be on the forefront of pop culture. Shame on us
Right!!! Now we got glasses and watches that might as well be our cell phones and computers. I'm sure somewhere in China they already building robots or fixing cars to fly right now.
