On our first trip to New Orleans in 2007, we saw Grandpa Elliot performing on a street corner in the French Quarter. He is amazing and a big part of why we fell in love with New Orleans.
Grandpa Elliott (born Elliot Small; July 10, 1944 - March 8, 2022), also known as Uncle Remus, was a veteran street-musician in New Orleans, Louisiana. He's now singing on the STREETS PAVED WITH GOLD. God rest his soul...
I just loved grampa Elliot What a precious soul that Our Father allowed so many to enjoy ,and feel his passion ,in bringing so many of us together , THANKYOU Father God for all you give to us undeserving. Forgive us our sins I ask through Jesus Christ Amen
If someone sees this, and one day, now or in the future walks by Gradpa Elliot. Then please tell him that I saw this, and that it touched me. And please also tell him to keep singing and playing. He has a talent, this talent is not to sing og play music, but the talent to move people and make a difference to someone that is feeling a bit lonely across the other side of the earth. All my love to you Grandpa Elliot. Stay healthy, stay loveable Love From Denmark - 8048 Kilometers/5001 miles away

Grandpa Elliot IS New Orleans! Thanks for the video. I first met Grandpa Elliot Small with my childhood English pen pal in 2002. Elliot was paired with the highly talented Stoney B at the time portraying Stoney's blind, harmonica playing "Drampa." We bought their album and have played it often. Later that evening we saw him riding a bike being himself. We called him over and had a fun visit with him. Great guy and a New Orleans icon!
We always wanted to go to New Orleans to see Grandpa Elliot on his street corner, but we got old and my wife's health failed to where we can no longer travel. Grandpa Elloit was a treasure for sue. This video would have been better if the guy on the keyboard could acting play it. People learn how to beat some chords or play a very rifs in the background and then they think they are musicians. They are a far cry from w=one who knows how to read music and can play the melody witht heir right hand and the harmony with their left.
Ssorry to hear that you never got to New Orleans! This video was from our first trip there and it was the first time we had ever heard grandpa Elliot. It was a wonderful experience! And now he's gone… But I think his music lives on for many people. Have you seen some of the older playing for change videos? He was a big part of that band when it started. He sure was a terrific man.
Following these public appearances on the streets and at these venues in New Orleans, street singer Grandpa Elliot became a celebrity when he appeared in concert with several singers around the world making an International video featuring the song Stand By Me, which has been a hit so far in 2020, a of the most viewed videos in the World.
