@Mike Rothwell, if you watch the video, the helo was shot at, but it was not shot down. From Cobra 11’s point of view, comms suggest Cobra 12’s gunner was shot in the shoulder. Towards the end of the video from 12’s view, we also see the camera was shot as well (since the screen went black).

@@demun6065 The helo was at low altitude, decently low speed, plus that insurgent went full Rambo. I’m no gun expert, but I don’t believe he was aiming, and with those conditions it’s not exactly difficult to hit the helicopter. I don’t think he was aiming for any specific components either, since he heard the gun shoot moments before most likely since the helo was closer than usual engagements. Also I don’t think it was dark... unless I missed something? FLIR doesn’t really contrast day or night clearly from what I’ve seen. But I could be wrong.

When you fight an occupier, you fight with whatever you've got, so respect to 'em for that. Unfortunately for the Taliban they don't have an air force. Nor can they see or hear the Apache gunships which can be hovering over a mile and a half away and still be within effective range of their 30mm chain gun.

Pretty sure these are AH-1W Supercobras and so these are 20MM HE. Still good stuff.

The video footage released to the public is intentionally distorted as clear footage could give an interested party details concerning your plane, its optics etc that you don't wish to be publicized. But I think this mission was done completely in the dark so that would add to it aswell

What the other guy said. Military footage from cameras and satellites etc are degraded on purpose when released to the public, but a satellite can read what’s on your phone if they want to. Trump infamously tweeted the clearest military satellite photo, and even that photo (sent to the president of the United States) had some degradation. Because of that tweet satellite enthusiasts were able to pinpoint one of the US’s most powerful spy satellites locations in the sky lmao.

You gotta understand these are 30mm High explosive bullets. Pretty much each round is a hand grenade so they dont have to be direct hits to do devastating damage

@@sjrlithics7524the gun is designed to disperse rounds as all of them hitting in the same location would not be very efficient for large forces/buildings or if you don’t know the targets precise location not good for here though but in general the guns designed that way

they didn't defeat the US lol, they defeated the ANA after the US left. Yes it was a political defeat but u act like if we took off the gloves and started carpet bombing the country and deploying massive amounts of troops that we couldn't annex the country as a US territory within 2 months..

EVERYONE FORGETS THAT CAPTURING AFGANHISTAN WAS THE US GOAL! We were there to obliterate the Taliban and that is what we did. Therefore we won the war.

The M230 is also supposed to have a high dispersion rate. The gun was designed as an area effect weapon, and with the shells being alot like grenades, you don't really want all the shots going to one point. Spreading out the damage is actually very desirable with this weapon. Edit: M230, not M231
