@@josephmonkele5992 really? How would you have handled it, supercop? First, you have zero evidence for your slanderous claims. You just don't like cops so you pretend you know something. 2nd, they made a detailed plan to be able to arrest the felon, who was both in a car he stole and apparently so high or drunk that the initial officers could not wake him. They made a plan specifically to avoid harm and the sergeant repeatedly warned them not to get stuck in the car. But the dirty felon decided to take off with a cop in the car. I saw other footage of this. The cop was saying 'stop or I'll shoot you' and the dirtbag did not stop. So, again, what would your brilliant plan have been to apprehend this repeat felon? Or even to escape if you were the kidnapped cop? But really- If you want to claim that they did something wrong, then explain what your tactical plan would have been.

@Lisa E no matter what police do these days, people will say they did something wrong or ask "why didn't they do this or that?". They are under a microscope constantly. These cops wanted to try and do it the best way they thought possible. It just so happens that it did not go as planned. Also, rushing in to situations typically causes more problems than solutions. Plus, you do not know how someone will react when they being suddenly woken up. In prisons and jail they tap the end of an inmates bunk and/or call their name instead of touching their shoulder or whatever because they may wake up thinking another inmate is touching them, which means they wake up swinging. My point is that they took so long because they did not want to screw up and wanted to be in as much control as possible when they woke him up. They were watching and would have known if he woke up and tried to drive off. My apologies for being sparky earlier. I had not had my morning pot of coffee yet. I firmly believe that there needs to be a mandatory class in high school that teaches people why cops do the things they do, how you should behave when stopped and your actual rights. I took a course at my local sheriff’s office called the citizens academy. They had all kinds of people come explain things to us. Homicide detectives, SWAT deputies, gang task force deputies, K-9, etc. all spoke to us and explained how they work, what they are looking for on stops, how they think, etc. The use of force continuum and the OODA loop were explained in detail. We even had one full Saturday class where we got to pretend to be cops for the day. We practiced everything from traffic stops to domestic violence situations and quickly realized that it’s a lot harder than it looks! The information we learned was very enlightening. I remember being taught the basics about stopping for police in drivers ed but it wasn’t nearly enough. So I think we should be teaching all of the same info to teens before they get their license. Idk why we don’t already!

Nicely done by all the officers involved. They took it slow, tried to formulate a plan that was within their departments policies and to minimize danger to themselves, the public and the suspect. It's unfortunate how things turned out. The one thing that's hard to plan for it what the suspects reaction will be. In the end the suspect made decisions that cost him his life. May God be with you and provide you comfort. It's never easy watching a man die and no Officer I've ever worked with wants that as an outcome.
