The silage bales are 55% water @ 8lb/gal. The hay is less than 10% water.

Copy that but wouldn't the weight be different but the volume be the same?

I have wondered the same thing about volume of bales in FS. I’m guessing it’s “precompacted” volume. That’s the only reasoning I could come up with that made any sense because, volume is volume, no matter how dense something is. 100L of air takes up the same space as 100L of water… right? Right? I’ve been out of school too long for this

Yep. The hay and silage bales have the same dimensions, so they would have the same volume. They would obviously have very different masses (or weight, if you prefer) because the hay is far more dry than the silage, but they would have the same volume.
