I admire their perseverance and ingenuity! This was a very interesting look at a way of life I knew nothing about. I do hope we can come together on a global level to improve distribution of resources so people everywhere can live safer, healthier, easier lives!

Don't forget that sometimes it's extreme corruption in some governments that caused the suffering of their people .

A point of correction... Uganda is one of the countries with plenty of food stuffs. We even feed the rest of all east Africa. We don't starve. Every average Ugandan can eat raw food which is even organic at only less than a dollar a day. For grasshoppers are a tradition delicious food that comes seasonally. They come in October November and December. The type of grasshopper is called nsenene and it's not common. We fry them in the source pan and they taste delicious for us Ugandans as how you ejoy crisps.

Of course, they don't hop, they fly. I've always enjoyed being startled when they suddenly take flight. They're so well camouflaged.

This doesn’t make clear why Ugandans are catching and eating grasshoppers.

If you went to a science museum as a kid in the US, you would find “astronaut” ice cream and bugs in candy. I tried the grasshopper and it tasted like roasted peanuts. I would have enjoyed it if it wasn’t for my brain instantly turning on my gag reflex.

People are so creative and resourceful. They really shouldn't have to rely on such an unpredictable way of making a living when there's so much wealth and so much waste in the world, though.

When the cicadas came last year, I ate a ton of them. Fried them up good in butter. Sometimes I ate them raw. They would fly right into my mouth while I was sitting in the back yard...I always had a bunch on me. Those red-eyed little devils...I liked them, they were my friends.

So grasshoppers are a dietary staple in Uganda? I can't even stand it when on lands on my skin, let alone put one in my mouth! I think I would starve if I lived there.
