Great footage, some of the best camera work and clarity too of the band imo. Great first set of all solid and powerful songs that are tightly played and you can tell the band is on a good night and having fun with everything coming easy. 93 gems are great to experience and continue to find more of them to play Eyes of the World continues the ride pretty much perfectly.

I saw Woody &Arlo [Alice's Restaurant] Guthrie/Rat Dog/3koosticHooka Ekoostic Hookah/Bobby sat in for damn near whole set pretty sick. Finally I had eaten some of the great designer ExcThC,(Motorola s) and gotten glitter bombed which was great but I accidentally ran into none other than Dawg Grisman and some young super excited girl asked for David'autographs so naturally I took my hat off sand asked if he'd sign my Jerry hat which was new and awesome he did and then I got him to sign my Phil and Phriends stub which he did gladly all over Phil's name here funny and I bowed and excited to my pond or my tent....haha but what an amazing place Buckeye Lake Ohio, which is where Tauk, Ehooka, and shiton of others. Dude let me hold his meteorite which was so full of energy I couldn't hold it past 5 mins or even not have it out. Craziest feeling from a piece of space platinum or space titanium/iron? Or Silver/Steel/idk it was size of 50c cent piece and as thick as 6 quarters together with outer space joojoo so moral of the story... Build memories this one was from '99& about a Ekoostic Hookah festival at Buckeye Lake I also enjoy the legends of the valley which is close to there which k I've seen met and had interesting times but that meteorite and experience have made me leery but as long as Nelson ledges fboy status and place for ttotalWingest of wing nuts hands down

This show was the day before my high school graduation. We drove there from Pittsburgh. My mom almost didn't let me go. I had convinced my older sister to take me so she could promise my mom that we would get up super early and be home in time for my graduation. (My sister was not a deadhead, but was a trooper when it came to me dragging her along places with me) I got home in time, got a quick shower, threw on my robe, and made it in time! I think I had shorts and a t-shirt on under my robe. And my birks on my feet of course. It was a great show!

Not much for commenting on videos, but this was the pinnacle for my generation. We all thought the music would never stop. Now after all these years, I Believe with all my heart that TRULY the music will NEVER stop….that makes my soul happy and I will die with Jerry’s Melodie’s in my ears. Thanks for posting this! My kids aged 9 and 6 attended with me and their mom, and have some faint memories of this show. The Dead crew were so kind. They set my 6 year old daughter up with a safe spot in an actual chair on one of the "towers" for light or sound and she literally had -the- best seat there. Her face sure lit up when she recognized Jerry, too. They gave us backstage passes (it was closed already but great souvenirs) too. And all because the kids started climbing something they weren't supposed to climb, and instead of lecturing about rules and safety and stuff, they treated us like favorite cousins. It was a really amazing experience for us all.

At some point I made it my decision to dose or shroom at every show up until the show on 7-9-95 I chose against it as I had been dosing even on non show days and that plus the ugliness had me at wits end, the tolerance was very high by then and almost didn't seem to work no matter how much I ingested. Atleast I didn't have a quantity on me to keep tearing a chunk off every song or two.

I am from Ohio and had attended the Buckeye lake shows including the one there the year prior where it poured rain on us. I had graduated college in ' 92 and joined the ARMY and had just got out of boot camp and AIT in spring 93 and had a furlough to go home for a few days. Met all my buddies that were still in school and we went to this show- what a fantastic time. Last I saw of several of those guys as we drifted apart over the years but I will always remember this show with fond memories.- awesome to see the video posted here!!!

I think it was THIS show. I way over indulged in a great variety of things that day. That storm came in and dropped the temps and I was going hypothermic ... lost the folks I rode with, found my homies in the lot and got a blanket, lost them after the show and found the tribe I rode up there with. The things that happen at Dead shows ... aaaahhhhhhhh ...

It's nice to actually SEE this show. I remember being stuck outside and listening and watching a beautiful sunset. Our car broke down on the way to Buckeye Lake and after a series of kind heads giving us rides we wound up in the campground with a neighboring dirt bike course. Good country summer vibes all around. After the show the campground was a huge dance party. We ended up crashing in a barn. good times.

Thank you, so much! This was my fourth show but it was the show that I first experienced the unique group think. What a wonderful memory. We got there at 6am and the locals already lined the road with "Welcome Dead Heads" sings, waving and greeting. My friend and his girlfriend wanted to go get a coa campsite, I couldn't figure out why and said just drop me off. There was field after field after field for parking. i think the number of people was 180,000. The first people I met on my adventurism were from New York . We promptly traded libations and greetings. They enjoyed floating on the freshies and The bear pointed me to a walkabout that lasted the next 18 hours. A non-stop meet and greet, oddities and a new since of community that felt like Sunday pasta with my family. Eventually realizing I hadn't looked for a ticket (not sure how a massive open area was sold out but guess it was) I had befriended and freshened every person I came across, After maybe an hour of casual positive cloud talk with some guy I simply asked "Hey do you have an extra by any chance?" With out hesitation he wiped out a mail order and said enjoy, He did not want money this was the start of what I still practice today if I have an extra I give it to someone who really wants to see the music, I can't stand scalpers. We parted and I found myself on Shakedown with a couple, that had been out for a minute, The guy was making chain mail and the girl had made her own necklaces. They were interacting with everyone the way shakedown works. At some point out of the blue the girl stood up and declared the whole 3 walls of tapes didn't mean anything and that what mattered was this community. She went on a 15 diatribe analyzing a scene I had only observed a few times. Again this stuck with me in that, I love to be with all walks of life from the rainbow to the trust fund as long as whoever has good intentions, ( Right around this time 60 minutes erred a piece on the dead that my grandfather watched, Of course they went to the buses and first questioned they asked "don't you guys have to go back to work?" "I don't ever plan on having a job" My grand pa did not hear another word of the 60 minutes but repeated it every time me or my cousins were going to see the dead. He bought us our 95 NC tickets for all three nights and rented us a car) This is a common misconception I meet doctors, lawyers, politicians, gold card, trust fund, bikers , street rats, run always, country folk and the myriad of infinite possibilities in between and beyond. Like anywhere there are bad actors sometimes worse than others but that sense of community like one big family from the first dead heads to my self at this point 16 years old was and still is special. I realized it was time to go in, gave some hugs and went skipping away... about 20 minutes latter approaching the gate I could not find my pouch that had my ticket, money, acquired bear and fresness. I screeched started running as quick as possible back to shakedown and the couple. Panicked with arms flaring but it was not there. Almost hyperventilating the girl grabs my two shoulders looks me in the eyes and say's "Don't worry, your going to find it" I was not convinced but went to look. 5 minutes later in the middle of the dirt road connecting parking lots where everyone was just walking I see the pouch. Every thing still in place cash and ticket I ran back to couple elated purchased a necklace with the chain mail. Gave huge hugs and marched my way into the oddest venue I've been to. As Massive as when you enter the Gorge before you see the river. It was just a huge open filed with a raven. First set I danced next to a beautiful spinner all smiles, fell in love, tipped my hat at set break wondered closer in a trance, as drums started I decided to go over to the raven and sit for a moment. i heard the unmistakable noise of shhhhhhhh . Two girls sitting arm in arm laughing and smiling. yes security was very lax they carried a whole tank in. Without world we were handing fresh and shhhhhh to each other throughout drums, As The Wheel was staring I again tipped my hat and made my way a lot closer. At which point My mind left body like astral travel. I felt like I was being asked where I wanted the train to go by everyone there. Kinda of an omnipresent energy that seemed to be not just communicating with me but propping me up to be the conductor of that energy (not the Band) So strange but life changing. After the show I wondered in no particular direction in a spell. When around 2 am my friend found me and said lets go no coa, This another mode I still follow. When there isn't another show the next night get on the road and drive with that energy. This show was the first time I heard So Many Roads I cried a little not sure why. My daughter's name is Corrina which I was singing all the way home. Tthe Wheel, all along the watchtower, black peter, sugar magnolia to the Broke down Palace I was in pure bliss. The whole show was a great set list and preformed well. I sent a blank tape in the mail to someone I had only traded tapes with and received the soundboard a few months latter. I refused to organize or put my dead shows against any walls. Thinking if i needed a show it would present itself by my reaching into a pile... Skip several years to Dec 2006. I had recently moved north of Berkley with my young family. I stayed home with my newborn boy and my four year old daughter while my wife was working during the day and I was driving an hour south to wait tables at night. Some friends of mine from Rat Dog tour were coming up from desert hot springs to stay in a nice hotel in the city. They had brought gifts for me and I was looking forward to seeing some familiar faces, However, as I listened to the first set I drove write past the hotel then was on the 101 instead of the 5 and didn't even notice. I then proceed to have a full conversation with my best friend who was back in Lawrence Kansas, felt like I was speaking to him and he was there, I caught a tear in my eye and remembered tears at buckeye during the so many roads that I was now listening to Jerry repeat the chorus at the end. I finally made it home wonder lost and confused around 2 am. A different friend called and told me that my friend had just passed away. I haven't actually listened to this show since that day. doing phish tour in 97 I listened to that tape non stop for 2 months and it never left that pile I could reach my hand into and grab. So many years later and its like entering a former home. Love it, during these strange times its easy to get lost in Babylon duties and stress. Fear this stay away from your fiends and family, while the media seems to beg for what fear or control is next. Unfortunately my home BOB show was just cancelled days before it due to this craziness. However, since the first view from the vault I've been anxious for this show to be released. After not hearing it for 14 years and as much as it means to me, THANK YOU SO MUCH for touching an engram and giving me a real boost. love it. I've never actually told that whole story, definitely have never written any of my adventures. Yet Buckeye was a changing moment in my life. I was already aware of the bus staring July 4, 1990 and already loved the music but here I felt what it was like to be on the bus....

My first GD show. I was 13 and my older sister scored my a ticket. We cruised down in her Mustang- top down on beautiful day. Caravaned down a bunch people from the village. Thankfully I'd been listening intently to the Dead before so I was well aware of the songs they were gonna play . It was an absolutely fantastic scene. I thing I noticed was everywhere I went someone offered me "paper" lol. My sister told before the show they'll do Drumz> Space & then melt onto either The Wheel ( which is exactly what they did) or I need Miracle and it's amazing to watch the crowd go from chill out mode to full on dancing. This gig was pretty much when I followed my bliss onto the Bus. My dad and mom were cool as sh%t they understood the importance of letting their kids travel to see concerts because my Dad used to go far and wide to see Blues & old time rock n rollers when he was young. Bless their hearts and my older sisters both who took me along to many concerts as I grew up. Now I've seen so many gigs I can look back so fondly on. Its been a hell of a ride. Buckeye Lake '93 GD and Sting opened > I was wearing pin stripped overhauls lol- still enjoying the ride in 2020 ✌🏼⚡🌹

The Buckeye shows were pretty unique. The place was so freaking huge, there was a stand of pine trees off to the side inside the venue. Good place to go and get your head together. And then it was general admission everywhere so if you wanted to really get in the soup you could wriggle your way all the way up front. Don't know any other venues where you could see the Dead like that in this era. I wouldn't say it was the best. It was kind of overwhelmingly huge. But it was fun and they played some pretty high energy shows here.

I couldn't agree more. For me, after Brent died, Jerry was never the same. The scene had really started changing in 87 when Touch of Grey became a radio hit. That's also when they started playing some Stadium shows every summer. I started seeing shows in 83 but really started touring in 86-90. I saw almost every show in 87, except a few of the stadium shows after I got robbed by some bikers in the lot after the JFK show. By 1990, you had as many people showing up just to make money selling Nitrous and narcotics then heads there for the music. I still saw a few shows after 1990, but went to way more JGB shows which still had the magic. I also started going to more and more Phish shows because they were just incredible between 90- 95. Unfortunately, after Jerry passed most of the leeches just switched to selling their poison on Dead tour to Phish shows. That scene got ugly much quicker. I got into SCI for a few years between 2000-2006, but until I saw JRAD in 2016 nothing touched me the way Jerry did. I love JRAD. Best music I've heard since 95 (with the exceptional smokin Phil show).

1993 ought not be underrated because Jerry Garcia's guitarring is his best ever, in terms of tone and technique. So if '93 is underrated, as you posit, that points to one sad, sad fact, and that is the the masses were not paying attention to Garcia's art. He was first & foremost a guitar player. His solos soar.

@@grubbetuchusI think '93 is only underrated by those fans that see Jerry as Brent's guitar player and the GD as Brent's backup band.
@grubbetuchus
@grubbetuchus 3 месяца назад
@@joeshoe6184 This a a great point that you make. I also hear the GD this way, that Brent dominates way, way too much, both his keyboard playing and his voice. Though he is good, his participation in the band is annoying for me to listen to.
@joeshoe6184
@joeshoe6184 3 месяца назад
@grubbetuchus I agree with Mickey Hart that the GD is a guitar band. Keyboards are secondary to me. It's strange to say, but to my ear the best GD keyboard work just disappears into the music, in service of the song. You're not thinking about who is playing keys, your thinking about how awesome the song sounds, or Jerry sounds, or the band sounds. Love it or hate it, Brent usually sticks out in the mix, for better and worse. Also I hate to be mean, but his originals are truly terrible as well, like embarrassingly bad. On their best nights I think all the keyboard guys brought something unique and special to the band, on off nights they detract from the sound. That's true for TC, Keith, Brent, Bruce and Vince.
@grubbetuchus
@grubbetuchus 3 месяца назад
@@joeshoe6184 100%, sort of. Brent is too much, kinda like bad ketchup. Instead of the food enhancing the presence of some good ketchup, there is no food that can fix bad catsup. His voice, his keyboard playing, his beard, and his "playing from the shoulders" is more than just meh, it's feh. Jerry's playing was the best it's ever been. Oy, if he had only gone low-carb ketovore and OMAD. He starts a guitar solo, one of the long, meandering ones, and if you are a listener who pays attention to the notes, you walk with him in his musical path, even if there's some cheesey notes. And what a walk, there's an elation that one might feel on such listening excursions, it's one of those higher joys, it's the life that is found in the joyful living. You become connected to something that words can't describe. To note, Zappa solos and some John McLaughlin solos can also bring you there.

253 live Grateful Dead shows before our beloved Jerry passed . I went to the gathering in Eugene, Oregon after Jerry’s passing, and rejoiced with thousands of the banks of the Willamette River.

I Just remembered I was at this show. Honestly don’t remember many shows after Brent cause it just was never the same for me. I Do remember not being able to get a hotel because NASCAR was around the some time so I drove back to PA that night. Drove till dawn and slept at a rest stop for a couple hours before making it back to NJ. Wild times.

Jerry’s solo for uncle johns band at 121:25 is hands down the greatest guitar solo I’ve ever heard and he’s impovising the entire thing. One of the best musicians on the planet

The Dead. Magical,inspiring,beautiful & timeless. They mean so many different things to so many different people. They have touched us all deeply & connected us together with a feeling of love & hope for each other & our planet. I don't think there will be anything that spreads the message of love as they did. Those of us that have been to shows have the memories(or at least some of them) to help us out in rough times. So sad for those who couldn't see them but wanted to. REVOLUTION!!

I remember during intermission someone asking me what song I thought they would open up the second set with..... I felt it was going to be Eyes of the World. Seven or eight people sitting around us all gave their guesses. When the Dead broke into Eyes of the World, I thought that was the coolest thing ever. So glad this concert is posted here. Thank you so much for refreshing the memories.......................

This show is epic to say the least. The fact that this was captured in such a golden era is electric to the hilt. Jerry in that purple shirt, shi*! this is so weird and so great. The final evolution of the Grateful Dead, the final years, the final hoorah! "Unto a foolish heart!"

I go back to the 70s with the Dead. Many many great shows over the years. I’m one of the old timers who also enjoys Dead & Co. today. Been to about 10 shows and always a great time. You can never replace Jerry, but Mayer is great in his own way. Outside of that obvious difference (and the age of Bobby, Billy and Mickey), the other big difference to me is the presence of the bass in their music. Phil was always front and center, loud in the mix and almost playing his own lead. Oteil’s bass is very low in the mix, sometimes even hard to find. I miss Phil’s big presence in the music.
