This by far is the Greatest loser of all time, and I have heard them all from 78 till. 95, who else agrees!!! And that little smirk garcia gives , when he knows a little something we will ever know!!! Lesley was right in a way they were bigger than the Beatles!!!
Hot show for a hot day... I was lucky enough to catch 4 of the first 5 shows this summer - Foxboro, JFK, and the 2 Giants Stadium shows. 89 was such a great year, Jerry was healthy and the boys were energetic and on point just about every night. Dark Star and all the other bust-outs in the Fall, just amazing! I never get tired of this era...
As a tour veteran who was blessed enough to have seen the Grateful Dead over 300 times going all the way back to 1969, I remember vividly how the band entered a special zone starting in Spring 1989 that went through till 1991. What a time to be a Deadhead. This version of LOSER is totally sublime!
Agreed! Thank god I was seeing them during this period. I always feel a bit melancholy when trying to convey what the experience was like. Words often, if not always, fail. It was so beautiful, rocking, frightening, delicate, earth shattering, and so much more! I only saw them about 50 times, but the lions share was between 87-91 so I caught my share of epic shows. God bless the Grateful Dead!

Excellent recommendations my good friend. Thank you. This is a monumental day for me. I was only awoken to the real brilliance of the late 80s Era a few hours ago. I don't think I can ever go back. Holy Shit.
Jeff Felderman - well said, the shows after Jerry’s coma up through 91 were special. So much energy, and you can clearly see how much fun these guys were having when you get close-up videos like this. I was lucky enough to be “front row” in Greensboro this Spring, and for Foxboro to start the Summer Tour, and man the interactions between band mates and with the fans was super fun. Those three shows were the only time I ever got that close to the band and I can still see it in my mind like it was yesterday. Infectious fun energy I tell ya’. EDIT: And don’t sleep on 88... fewer long jams, but the rock & roll aspect was full force, and strangely Jerry played Morning Dew all the time in 87-88... one of my favorite versions came from an overlooked gem of a show: 3-30-88, New Jersey. Check it out!
I was there that day. It was the last performance at JFK stadium, as the concrete was literally crumbling on the underside of the stadium during this show. Thanks Phil... you broke the place... :)
This was my first show. I consider that fact to be one of the great blessings life has bestowed on me. I don't take that for granted at all. I was about 200 feet back Brentside. I vividly remember how it felt during that second set when the sun went down and the screens came on.
Wow... this kicks ass!!!! Jerry just blows it up during his solo. I love this song to begin with, but this is one of the best versions I have ever heard/seen. I have listened to a lot of versions and I can't think of one I like better.
I just found my next Jerry classic solos transcription project. Just geting wrapped up with his Thrill is gone solo from Garcia Grisman shows. Every Garcia solo is such a master class when you break it down.
Damn Bobby is one good looking dude in those short. #Rrrrrowww! I always felt like the shorts were such a source of comic relief taken in context with the whole spectacle.
My buddy told me, I'll meet you by the "Rocky" statue, I'll be the guy with long hair and a tye-dye shirt. No lie, I went to the statue, and turned around and there he was. I stopped questioning what was guiding my life.
Good quote. Means nothing specific. I just want my family back( son and his mother), while keeping my freedom, my job, and my right to protest an unjust international economic order.
If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn, I could arm a town the size of Abilene Don't you push me baby, Cause I'm all alone and you know I'm only in it for the gold All that I am asking for is ten gold dollars And I could pay you back with one good hand You can look around about the wide world over And you'll never find another honest man. Last fair deal in the country, Sweet Suzie, last fair deal in the town Put your gold money where your love is baby, Before you let my deal go down Don't you push me baby, cause I'm all alone Well I know a little something you won't ever know Don't you touch hard liquor, just a cup of cold coffee I'm gonna get up in the morning and go Everybody prayin' and drinkin' that wine I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines Come to daddy on the inside straight, Well I got no chance of losin' this time Last fair deal in the country, Last fair deal in the town Put your gold money where your love is baby, Before you let my deal go down Everybody prayin' and drinkin' that wine I can tell the Queen of Diamonds by the way she shines Come to daddy on the inside straight, Well I got no chance of losin' this time.
no but I drank the " joy juice" 1979 Giants stadium meadowlands in Jersey new riders, walon n Willie, n the Dead for 5 hours I was pasted to my seat it took the Dead an hour to tune up but then they played the shit out of that sold out show!
Let's get further back , Johnny k, on guitar, and Russo back on drums!! And I wish these. Guys would slow do we n ,they have given us enough, I wish they would take time off ,and enjoy life, as nd that documentary, making deadbeats looking like morons, like we were gonna kill ourselves because Jerry passed. We're not nirvana fans!! We thought Jerry was God , give me a break!

What an unreal version of Loser this was. I drank the green kool aid that was being passed around in the center about the 18th-20th rows. Anyone else drink that brew? It was dosed man, unbelievable day/night!!!!!!!
Yes, it was dosed. ANY thing that is being "passed" at the concerts is more than likely, "dosed". AbsoLUTEly, there is a chance of it not being dosed! AbsoLUTELY, there's a chance! As much of a chance as my mom coming down from heaven and buying me the coat I wanted in high school, on SALE for $389> and when talking to the girl who lived across the street, she said her mother wouldn't buy her the coat she wanted, either, and it cost $700. I hope you had a really good time!! and enjoyed yourself, completely! ;^')
***** WHO claims there's no power in prayer? Mr. Weed, you sound like a righteous dude. I must say, your kindness set me back a few steps, and unfortunately, I must say, " no" , Mr, Weed, but I sure do Thank you!! Please make sure the check is certified. ;^'). Wow!
