"Usually a show-opener in its last 20 years in the setlist, this version from RFK 1989 was played as the third song of the first set, always fun to see the Dead mix things up from the usual setlist format." - David Lemieux
Directed by Len Dell’Amico and co-produced by Len Dell’Amico and GDP.

Will you come with me? Won't you come with me? There's no better place to take a long strange trip with the Grateful Dead than right here. We've got music from every single studio album and a bevy of live albums, to boot. There are celebrated live performances from the 70s and 80s and official videos with more skeletons than you can shake your bones at, an exclusive seaside series on what's to come from the band's rich catalog and details on meet-ups all across the promised land. If it's community you’re after, try your hand at our yearly DEAD COVERS PROJECT competition and connect with fellow Dead Heads around the world. Heck, keep your eyes peeled you might even catch a glimpse of Pigpen on keys, Jerry in a GROOVE, Bobby tellin' tales, Mickey talkin' space, Phil and friends, Bill on the beach, or anyone from our extended family.

It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

1989 was a great year for the Dead - crisp sound, bigger jams, and Jerry was lucid and creative. There are great shows throughout the 80s, but 87-89 were the best years with a peak in 89.

Easily one of my all time Mississippi.. just watching how Jerry starts smirking just past the 3min mark he knows he's gonna lay it all down. And Brent, Bobby and Mickey feel the love.. I'm sure Phil and Bill but the camera never made it too them unfortunately..

When the tempo changes in Mississippi to the 2nd half of the tune.. Easy to see why it's such a fan favorite. Jerry's solos could inspire the Dead to raise. Especially in Mississippi. I love feeling that build up of inspiration as the song progresses. I love the GD but, honest to God, Jerry was in a world all his own. His final solo.. can't describe. God like.

Less than a year old when this show was filmed but owe finding/loving this band to my father who introduced my sister and I when we were toddlers as we cruised around in his K-car with skull sticker in the back window. Beautiful memories of a simpler time but what’s even more beautiful is that we still share those moments. Music like this transcends time even though Jerry and Brent are gone.

@@jdietz8026 I try to be optimistic in regards to time. However I think the music died with Brent's passing. My last show was in the spring of 92 in Philly. A little LIG tease at the start. I love seeing the band having fun. The Brent reaction to the 3rd "On My Waaaay" 4:09 is priceless. We got to see Dylan play a bit on the last night at the Forum run on Feb 12. It was our final time at the Greek and Frost. I got a birthday show at their single Oakland Arena show Dec 6th (that really was for my birthday wasn't it? Or maybe for Grahame's 3rd birthday?). 89' was a fun year for sure. Then again I look back and say that about every year since my first on 12/31/79. Every year is like a bottle of good wine. Each year has it's nuances and uniqueness that individually makes each special. What year I want to listen to greatly depends on my mood (or the acid). I would never say one is better, just different or stranger.. and I am thankful for every minute of it all!!!

Summer and Fall 89 and Spring 90 are when the band found their voice with this team. Brett figured out that he was great, Jerry was pretty clean and healthy... and they delivered at nearly ever show. Anyone who is caught up in the 70s (and specifically 77) who can't give this Era a listen need to run a few months of these tunes that this was one of the two eras that every deadhead should study deeply.
