Grateful Dead - Weather Report Suite (Winterland 10/18/74) (Official Live Video)

"Produced from the camera-original 16mm negative film, this beautiful and powerful rendition of the entire Weather Report Suite was the Dead's final performance of this Wake Of The Flood masterpiece. A couple of nights after this performance, the Dead packed it in as far as touring went for almost two years. When they returned to the road in the Summer of 1976, they brought with them the final part of the Suite, Let It Grow, but left the first two parts behind. Thankfully this performance was filmed during production of The Grateful Dead Movie, as well as recorded to 16-track analog tape." - David Lemieux

great expectations indeed my friend. It always boggles my mind that more Heads dont acknowledge just how absolutely fantastic he was during these years. I had a very profound trip to this song. Though it may not be so profound to some, but this song instilled in me the true knowledge that we are all the wind and rain, we come and go, we humans are like the seasons, the memory of us end in tumbled rhyme, harmony, and poetry, and then like the sands of the desert you're gone. Live well, love well, just Be. I love you all, peace and love to all my fellow deadheads, future deadheads, and all others on this magnificent blue orb

Before the show while we were still filing in, the arena was about 25% full they ran white noise thru the wall. I'll never forget that experience. Every atom in my body vibrated. During intermission Ned Lagin played a synth solo. Synthesizers were a new concept back then. I remember just being blown away with the wall of sound.

Thats one thing I love about Bobby that Jerry never really did. The way Bobby conducts. Jerry-led jams like Dark Star or Sugaree are kinda Jerry doing his thing and the whole band listening to keep up. They're more free and loose. He's rightfully recognised for what he was, but Bobby-led jams (WRS, Other One, Sugar Magnolia) are more focused and the way he interacts with the rest of the band is awesome. He's always twisting around and looking at everyone else. Gesturing, making arm movements, telling the whole band where he wants to go next with his eyes and movements. Or he lets the band go wild, but then he refocuses them with a strong chord and they jump right back in to the main track. Its amazing to watch

Agree I preferred the single drummer sound. But other things changed when Mickey returned. Bob switched guitars a few times, losing the Gibson ES 335 "piano" like sound. I live in a high desert so I relate to this song especially like now with the seasons changing. I found this explanation of this song on Genius. "“Weather Report Suite” is composed in three pieces: the instrumental “Prelude,” composed by Weir sets the stage for the melancholic Part 1, and the somewhat epic grandeur of Part 2. Part 1 is a song co-written with Eric Andersen, a well-known singer-songwriter at the time who traveled across Canada with the Dead on the Festival Express Tour. The song is an address to seasonal changes in both nature and the singer’s mental state as he reflects on the coming-and-going of love. Loss, and hope that new love is on the horizon. Part 2 (“Let It Grow”) presents a completely different tone, building into a thundering crescendo. The theologian John Barlow, Part two’s author, invokes several doctrinal issues in the song as well as the earthly elements of water, earth, air, and fire while comparing human life to the significance of the totality."

One of the best weather report suites. The song the lyrics brilliant Garcia Donna backup terrific Keith on the keyboards is so damn good. I’m a fan of the piano with the Dead. Garcia intro when the drums call him in sounds like a bird in flight. Why they cut it down to just Let it Grow beats me. I have had the good fortune to see one of my favorites in person.

I went to the Sunday show that weekend with my brothers and friends. The Dead were filming for the movie. There was a hells angels bike on the stage. Great show and crazy time.

An incomperable song, the prelude is almost unparalleld in the Grateful Deads music. There is nothing like it by far and wide. The quality and style of this particular song are unique even amidst the high standards of Jehova's favorite choir. Peace, its good karma.
