We always used to put our pile boards right to the edge on one side, and left the setup board on the other so the dirt would go on the board instead of the grass. Kept everything much cleaner.
Pocatello idaho here. Depending on which section of the cemetery we are digging, it is either straight dirt or rocks and bolders the size of small dogs.
This guy is a good hoe operator and so am I. Obviously the goal is to keep dirt off the grass. In order to do an even cleaner job, use a narrower digging bucket and bulk the dirt out down to the desired grade. Then true up the sides. That way you prevent spillage onto the perfect sod.
That sure didn't look like a 6ft deep hole, I'd say 4 1/2 to 5 tops. That puts the top of the 30inch casket only under the 24 to 30 inches. Seems shallow
Yep, 6 ft. was depth to stop animals from smelling anything and digging it up. They could chew through the wooden coffins, but they're not getting or smelling through the sealed concrete. Also, you can use large cinder blocks on top of the vault as a headstone foundation.
