Neal, I really enjoy watching you do grading jobs. You did a great job on this swale. I never commented on your homemade land plane, so I wanted to tell you now that you did a fabulous job fabricating it. It looks good and works even better! Keep up the good work and videos. .... Floyd in NW Ohio.
Thanks so much for the comment! I drove by this property yesterday and swung in to look. All is well and grass is growing good! Appreciate the comment and subs.
I really like your homemade grader box you built, those things bring quite a bit of money. If you ever got caught up in the winter, I’m sure you could build those and sell them for good price.
Nice job! How do you like the KX040-4? I have a KX033-4 and am thinking of getting a larger machine to go with the 33. I think the KX057-4 is too big and too pricey.
I like the 040 ok. I want to go larger but the 040 is the largest I can haul simultaneously with my rt40 skid steer on my 20k trailer. I don't think it would be worth having a 40 and 33 since they're so close in size. I've used a Deere 50g before and it was a very noticeable upgrade over my 040 both in strength and reach. Prior to the 040 I had a kx71 (similar to 033) and a kx161 (similar to kx057). It was a good combo but I sold them both to buy this newer 040.
No I got screwed on the roller rental. The place I was supposed to rent from ended up dropping the ball. Had to rent from 1.5hrs away. I paid them to deliver and pickup. I also had to pay for them to convert it from sheep's foot to smooth drum. Was almost $1000 total for the day. I should have just rented a double drum asphalt roller but I don't really like using them on steep hills.
I bought the tilt bucket used, I think I paid around 1500. Had to cut the John Deere ears off and weld on Kubota ears. Then also it was an older model that didn't have a hydraulic holding valve and it didn't have much strength tilting because the machines relief valve would let it flatten out when digging with it angled. Mongo sold me the lock valve kit for around $100 and it helped immensely. I wish the bucket was deeper and also had a longer flat bottom to it. It's tough to grade smooth because the only flat on the bottom is about 6" wide. But overall for less than 2k I guess I'm happy with it.
