Great job! Really excellent use of our older grid model. With respect to some of the questions about the sand layer, adding the sand is the ideal standard for creating a level but it doesn't affect the stability of the top surface. The stability comes from compaction of the sub layers.
Does it still work if ya base isn't all even?. We had driveway tarmaced and there's small parts where its uneven. Can't afford to have re done. Thinking of doing this
Gravel Grid looks great ,I was looking at paving my back yard but your solution looks like what I was looking for cheers , love your xk8 ,real class cheers d
Late to the party but I'm researching this. How is it holding up now. I've had people out to quote for this prepping. But they all say I need tarmac. I really like gravel though. I have it all round my garden already. But I need a parking area doing and I want water to freely drain. Thanks
Still working well for me Bikertyke 1965 . Gravel has stayed put bar the odd few stones that get dragged out by the jeeps tyres. Drains perfectly and Although I do get the odd weed. They are easy to just pull out as they cant really root. I was so pleased, that I did a second area in front of where my Static caravan is.
@@ToTheGarage Brilliant thanks. I've got gravel in the area already. It's been there 5 years and no weed's. But not used for the car. I'm going to remove it and use grid's to secure it. It needs sloping towards main drive.
Hi, did you find that you needed to use less gravel vs what you would have needed if you'd laid it without the grids? Also how is it driving over? I currently have 40mm pea gravel down (no grids under) and its awful to drive over - feels like driving in snow and walking over is like walking on ice. So now considering placing grids down.
Hi, can the gravel grids be felt underfoot or seen once fully covered with the gravel? I were just going to put gravel onto weed membrane for the garden path I'm making however he grid really seems to create a sturdier base to walk on than without them.
you cant feel them underfoot. you can see the odd bit of grid here and there but not much. the. big benefit id=s the gravel is so much more solid and docent keep moving from under your tyres or your feet. im very pleased with them
YES. But nothing special. I got my friend with the mini digger who had lifted the tree root out for me, to scrape it flatish and then go back and forth on it a lot with his caterpillar tracks.
It would have been a good idea, but if im honest it was a cost related decision plus the top soil had been graded using a mini digger and so was very compact and flat. But absolutely agree the sand would be best practice👍 Thanks for watching
Hi , now it's a few months after installation , have you had any consequences for not using hardcore/ sand ? I need to extend my drive just for storage of a car rather than regular driving on and off , and to be honest, the thought of digging out several inches of compacted clay soil to replace with the above just seems like wasted time and money . Your project looks really good , thanks for the vid.
Hey @@darrenwales1092, the grids used in the photo were an older model of the ones we now manufacture ourselves. No matter what hard surface you put on top, whether that's grids, concrete, etc. you ideally should scrape back the clay top soil to create a stable surface that doesn't move with different weather conditions. It's not necessarily wasted time or money if it creates a surface that is guaranteed to stay put forever but you do of course have to weigh that up vs upfront cost.
