The first hour of the Gravel World Championships was an absolute war trying to move up from the ~20th row. What an experience this race was! Already excited for 2024.
Wow! If the UCI could get cameras on multiple bikes and broadcast streams like that during a race it would make for some compelling and exciting viewing. Thanks for the inside look - you're one hell of a bike racer!
Ehh they already do this in big WT races. Yeah it’s a crazy look into how tight the pack is but after a little bit it becomes old hat and it’s terrible at conveying the context of the race. Kind of like Ump cam in baseball, neat for 5 minutes and then annoying.
@@vancomycin87they do it at the tour and plenty of other races dude, broadcasting from a gopro or similar LIVE from the bike is not as trivial as u make it seem. things like race radios regularly lose signal in a strung out peloton especially in the mountains. rain or overcast can wreak havoc on the tv motos. you need a stable reliable connection to switch to a live onboard cam with regularity. it's easy to do for track because it's a controlled environment.
cyclocross started as guys riding thru farmers fields etc, this is like the kermesse from hell, i used to say gravel worlds was mickey mouse race, but for whatever reason the riders decided to make it competitive this year and it's way better than previous editions
It’s so epic, so full of our truth. My family and girlfriend has no idea from the sidelines just what we are actually doing. This truly is a beautiful and realistic view of the beautiful thing we call fun. My arm hair is raised just watching and I just got done with a violent and fast gravel ride here in the PNW.
That was some really fantastic footage! Carnage is the perfect description for it. Love some of those creative lines you were taking! Thanks for editing and sharing this 👍😁
Holy heck. I don't even know what to say here. This is amazing to watch, all the time I'm thinking imagine if USA had started in one of those first call-up rows. This 7 minutes is better than any coverage I watched. Thanks for sharing this.
This footage is so crazy and awesome. UCI needs to figure out how to get footage like this into live broadcasts of events. Thanks so much for sharing, Payson. Amazing.
This footage is the best I’ve seen that shows how hardcore gravel racing is. It’s also why I would never want to be at the pointy end of a gravel race.
Insane footage! 🙌🏼 Great riding-getting those passes whenever, wherever and however you can 💪🏼 Shout out to my boy @zachcalton closing the gap and doing it with a smile 😊 Y’all were incredible to watch!
Going to do one or some of the UCI races next year for a better start position? That was my understanding of why you guys were so far back, was lack of UCI points.
Looks pretty much like every Gran Fondo in Italy. Be it Strade Bianche or Nove Colli, if you want to get in front you need iron-elbows and a suicidal line.
Wow that was thrilling! Such chaos and yet flow at the same time. What if anything could you have done to get a better starting position? Love how you were yelling at anybody and everybody to "go" and close down gaps, even if they didn't respond or help. How did you finish?
Honestly, it looks like a lot of these riders don't ride gravel very often. Overshooting turns and going off road, sudden traffic pile-ups and abrupt stops? Surprised that this is a pro race.
This is just amazing footage!! Idk how he does it, but Dylan Johnson said in the Nero Show that he has some kind of camera set up that turns on and off automatically every 30 seconds of filming or so, that way the battery on his camera lasts longer than normal. Maybe that's something to try next year!! Congrats on the amazing skills and footage Payson, wish there was more content like this in YT!!
