Trying to do my first oil change. I got the yellow cap off and got the tube on and i turnes the yellowcap all around and no oil comes out. Scream..and yes . I ran it prior for about 2 min.
I have the ztxl model. Virtually identical. Mine has the Kawasaki engine and it has exactly the same oil plug and filter location. Messiest and most difficult oil change I’ve ever done on anything. Should have spent a little more money on the zthd model just for the ease of oil change. Why gravely couldn’t have had the zthd design in all their mowers is beyond me. I couldn’t get my forearms in the space to loosen the oil plugs withou physical injury. Despite having put oil absorbent pads every where ithe process still found ways to create a mess. I think oil dripped from accesses I couldn’t clearly see for weeks afterwards requiring constant cleanup. Decided from that point to let the dealer do it which is only about a mile from my home. Worth every penny.
I'm over due on an oil change, because I dread the mess with this machine. Looked here to find tips or see if I was doing something wrong. Was glad others feel the same way about Gravely's poor design for changing oil.
*I own this exact mower. Best piece of equipment I've ever owned. Two exceptions, however. Unworkable el-cheapo oil drain set-up and undersize rear tires and wheels with integral axle hubs. (no lug bolt wheels) For $3K I'd say the best you can get for the $$$.*
I got the 52 inch mower. He is correct with the oil change. It's a mess to do this job. Takes awhile for all the oil to get out of the engine. Gravely you guys need to fix this.
I just changed my oil and I agree this is a very poor design. Ended up dripping oil all over the garage floor. I unscrewed the filter and it dropped down below the motor and got stuck. I spent nearly an hour getting the old filter out. I would NEVER buy another.
I was just getting ready to change my oil on the ZTR and saw this video. Good thing because I would have made a mess in the garage. I am curious if you purchase the extractor.
I have a 12-year-old hustler sport And a one-year-old gravely with about 40 hours on it. Let’s just say I’m always riding the hustler. Just me however.
Whoever designed this at Gravely can die in a couch fire. I did not like this mower for other reasons... then I hit 5hrs, and went through this nightmare. I'd seriously buy something else if you're still looking. If you already own it, well, I'm sorry.
I know it's off topic but where do you fill the hydraulic oil on yours? I have a 2250 that looks a lot like yours but I can't locate any hydraulic tank reservoirs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@@catman581 LOL yeah ok, you keep thinking that, we'll see you in 5 years after 500 hours of operation and see if you still say that. I Guarantee the Kohler blows a head gasket or has a cracked head by then. Not to be grammar police but it's they're not their in the way you used the word.
@@greenmarine5 It will take me 10 + yrs to put 500 hours on that motor. I had a Kohler on a Craftsman mower that lasted me 14 yrs. I have alot of confidence in Kohler engines. I am not using this mower in a commercial setting. By American made products when you can, it helps our workers.
the 60" is a different design all together, different front wheels, different anti scalp wheels and different deck design along with a different engine bay design. The 60 is high end consumer low end commercial until you get into the HD series
