Iranian women took off their hijab to protest against the custodial death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. She was arrested in Tehran for not wearing the headscarf properly. Priyanka Sharma gets you a report.

If women have to cover up because their bodies are not a cheap product on display, does that mean that everyone else's body is something cheap to be displayed? Please! Why only women if this is about the sanctity of the body. A headscarf or any other clothing women are ordered to wear has nothing to do with their moral character.

Protest is a fundamental right and no one have a right to dictate the place of protest, narrative of protest and time of protest. It should be investigated transparently by Gov.t of Iran.

The idea of wearing a headscarf came from Umarr. He was feeling lustful after Mohammed's wives, so in order to prevent him from making further advances, he urged Muhammad to come up with a revelation telling women to wear the headscarf, which muhammad as if he had no option left, did. Umarr in the end went about bragging about how allah subscribed to his suggestion

Α few years ago I was travelling on a plane back home. I was sat next to an Iranian woman, on a tourist trip. I asked her about the headscarf issue. She said it is not mandatory to wear head covers in Iran. She, herself, was not wearing one. Poor lass. Rip Amini.

affirmative action is nothing else than discrimination. quota of any kind is discrimination. it's everywhere and you cannot abolish it that easily. sometimes it's used to oppress a minority, sometimes to protect one. sometimes it started as the latter one and ended at the former. it must always be re-negotiated and can never be regarded as settled.

If one suppresses somebody else on the name of religion, and that suppressed person desires otherwise, their inner desires are eventually taken into account by God... Not what they forcefully do being afraid of being hurt... And when you end up doing barbaric acts to to get people follow those rules, you must expect to see people being enraged, and eventually see people who didn't want to break the rule, start breaking it... Just to protest. Religion is about love... And love is born out of free will, not suppression.

Heartbreaking... Why go to Iran...here in Tamil Nadu a small school girl has been raped and murdered...and the whole world media is looking the other way. Even a popular South Indian Media Nakkeeran has been attacked... If this could happen to a popular media like Nakkeeran...the safety of childrens more particularly girls studying in that school ( SHAKTHI INTERNATIONAL KALLAKURICHI ) is a huge question mark. We shudder to think of the kind of threat the children's in this school will be subject to. Even Uttar Pradesh looks more safe than Tamil Nadu. Yogi Adityanath acts tough against those who are against law. its a very sorry state of affairs for the parents of students studying in that school. Seeing the happening in this state the Supreme Court of India should take suo moto action and to take up this case and monitor its development on a day to day basis.

@@zuki7776 I think that what is more important is not what the religion says, but what is being practiced in its name. Ultimately it is the latter that affects people. Any practice in any religion has to change to adapt to the times. For example Hindus were practicing what is known as "Sati" which means burning of the widow along with the husband when he dies which is barbaric and terrible. But that is outlawed in India in 1829 by the British with the support of an Indian reformer. And that practice had no religious sanction in Hinduism, yet people were practicing it then.
