Because Taiwan(formally: Republic of China) recognises itself together with mainland(People's Republic of China) as one country, and it's written in its constitution and laws. According to constitutions and laws of both sides, the status is undergoing civil war. Both sides claim the whole China but control only part of it. 15 countries recognise Taipei government as the legitimate government, the rest recognise Beijing government as legitimate. There's no double recognization. So first get yourself informed before making comments.
Because constitution of both China and Taiwan(republic of China, ROC) follows the one China policy, you can only choose to recognize one of them, not both of them. The majority of the countries recognize the mainland China as the China, while around 10 small countries recognize Taiwan as the China.
Taiwan was a part of China, but Taiwan is not part of the PRC. There is a big difference. I support Taiwan's independence from the PRC; and, support Ukraine's independence from Russia.

What you never hear about in the US news is how many people have saved their lives, the lives of others and even the lives of police officers because they had a gun. This is thousands and thousands of lives every year. I have had this happen to me three times. I never had to fire my gun and in one instance, I did not even have to display it. Just my actions alerted the 6 thugs that I was armed and they fled the scene. My 1 1/2 year old son was with me and I can only imagine what might have happened if I had not been armed.
