Yes, as a baseline, performing at a professional level night after night, show after show can be taxing and exhausting. I'm just saying that Andy signed up to be in a band, not an astronaut (the closest equivalent experience). He obviously hated the plane rides and was very happy it was "over" only to find out they had to go again. That would be terribly frustrating. But, for the good of the video and his band mates, he sucked it up and pushed on. That's going above and beyond the call of Rock 'n Roll. :)
Props to Andy cause I can totally imagine getting hella sick of that. Going once would be like "wow!" but after weeks of doing it and thinking it's over... then having to do one more? Just dang. Seriously. Good work was awesome.
When I first watched the music video, I noticed at the end that Andy didn't smile AT ALL. He looked so frustrated and tired and he threw the baggage out of the way. Now I realized that he really didn't want to do it any more but he had no choice. It was all worth it tho! BREATHTAKING VIDEO!
@@connor48880 I am not sure I agree with that, because Andy works out. He has said so, and his physique makes it clear that he does strength training (eg. in the white polo shirt in the White Knuckles video) so he would have more weight from muscle. Damian may have been the lightest. Anyway, Andy's reaction to gravity or the anti-nausea meds was probably more physiologically specific.
Button Nose I've been wondering why he looked SO fucking pissed since the video came out. I can't believe he was actually that pissed and that it wasn't me imagining it!!!!
@@vs71597 I think the other part is that the luggage was in the way and he wasn't going to make his seat before the right beat, and before the parabola ended. He was thinking he'd ruin it and they'd have to go again. You can see eight after he sits down he breaths a huge sigh.
@@maisiesummers42 unny enough it was his fault the luggage landed in his seat in the first place. watch him closely the last 5 seconds before he makes it in the seat, he throws the luggage while in the left rows of seats before moving to his seat in the front right. Im sure he was frantic at that point ha poor fella
@@metadina That's not true. He seems pretty delighted with the shoe-bagger machine when they first arrive. But otherwise, yeah, it's all downhill from there.
Andy has my immense respect for doing that final flight. He agreed because he knew it needed to be done to make the rest of it completely worth it. That was an amazing video, so well done!
way to go andy for being a champ and doing something he didn't for the rest of the team. That truly shows his professionalism and is an inspiration to the dynamics of team work
Loved this, trying to explain to my kids about how the cosmonaut training plane works, the low gravity and parabolas etc, and this made it so easy. If anyone involved reads this, thank you so much for showing how exciting physics and art, and working towards a difficult goal can be. My kids have really loved it and hopefully learned a bit about science, art and hard work too.
@@andTutin yeah everyone keeps saying "zero-gravity" but it's not. Gravity is present just like on land but the plane accelerates into FREEFALL. It's like being in zero gravity but you're actually falling at full gravitational acceleration.
Show him the behind the scenes video that is the same length as the music video (3 minutes 26 seconds). It shows them shooting the video, seen from every other angle except the main camera, and it makes it impossible to refute that they are in weightless environment.
@@dielaughing73 It's the same anywhere you are in the universe; There is never no gravity, but you can "float" if your environment moves as you do (which requires cancelling the aerodynamic drag or working in vacuum where there isn't any)
You can see Andy's heart just *_dying_* at 13:31 when he sees the paint get on the camera. And Dan's trying to be optimistic but Andy's just "There's nothing we can do about that at the end, is there." I don't know what to say...Andy deserves some true respect right there for going through for the last flight.
''i realized that once you start working with professionals it doesn't really seem like work'' true. Incredible. A huge bravo to you guys. I was so excited when the music video came on last year and now i am MORE excited. Keep doing, create more and more masterpieces! Love all of you guys :) P.S. Yes! I'm the first comment!!!!!!!!!
Nat_inou 2090 true. I'm a singer in a childrenschoir of an opera (we get paid=were professionals?) and it simply seems just like a family, and not work...
''i realized that once you start working with professionals it doesn't really seem like work'' Appreciate the sentiment, but I think Andy would have to say something about it.
You guys are the definition of amazing, and you're such a huge inspiration for people like me, who are always in the search for creativity in the things we love. From a young audiovisual student, what you do is what dreams are made of. Thank you for your music, and your videos, and your passion.
I loved the music video, the concept, the behind the scenes but in the final product, we all know what really fucked them up. That one green suitcase that got into the last guy's seat. :/
....was that Andy getting his nose hair clipped?? (Oh, I guess it's a spray of some kind.) Oh man, how much did he hurt whoever demanded that be included, lol? That's dedication. But seriously....for you guys, the extra mile is like, what, a millimeter? Pfft. You eat extra miles for breakfast. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.
This is so COOL to be able to see a “Behind the Scenes” look at how this video was created. I first saw this video when it first came out & had aired on FUSE Rock Music Television. It’s beautiful to see how they went for Cosmonaut training in Russia so that way they could be able to fly as high as they did. (I only ever noticed the small notification that they give before the video which says “What you are about to see is Real”
I feel sorry for the plane! The fatigue on the body and wings must be incredible! Great Russian engineering! So how did they clean all the paint up inside the plane? So nice to see the hugs at the end despite the language barriers... I love it when we can all transcend the cultural barriers and have a hug... should be more of it. Wish the politicians could understand that.
There is no significant stress on the plane. All jet aircraft are designed within a boundary of expected loads, and these parabolic curves are well within them. The plane is not fighting forces, it's flying with them.
A plane is designed to withstand something like this. Recently the Airbus A300 Zero G was retired and is now preserved as Cologne Bonn Airport. At it's place is now an A310.
I'm in awe. I couldn't watch the music video a third time because I had too many tears in my eyes from the sheer joy of the awe of it. What more can I say? Nobody else could have done this. Truly, veritably awe-inspiring. Thank you.
Love you guys! Not only is the music great, but the videos are classic art! I was in the Air Force and did what we call the Vomit Comet maneuvers like you did in zero G. It was awesome and some of the best times I remember, except for the sudden G rush at the bottom of the parabola. Sometimes two or three G onsets. I give the Russian pilots credit for what appeared to be a smooth maneuver set. If you have a chance to do this, take it. It is a once in a life time opportunity! PS...even during the cold war, I thought the Russian people to be awesome and still do. I hope to visit there some day.
I visited Russia while in the USCG (yep, really) and they treated our crew amazingly well. Well, except the crew of the Vorovsky kicked our ass at a game of soccer 😂
17:44 It is both heartening and devastating that the vast majority of people in different countries truly just want to connect with each other on a human level, and it's mostly just a handful of power-hungry politicians sowing hatred and distrust. You can sense the love and respect and joy amongst everyone on the team, despite the language barriers and cultural differences. Truly a beautiful project
Videos like these are incredibly inspiring to me. just watching the original music video was amazing and i immediately started breaking it down trying to figure out how they did it. Artistry, pure artistry.
This video showing all the hard work and the team behind it, is really awesome!!! You are amazing guys, specially Andy for getting that one last shot for the team. You just redefine EPIC!!!
Beautiful!!! Seeing how the Arts and Science is used to create a beautiful relationship between two different cultural communities is Brilliant! Thank you for sharing!
Guys you are more than awesome! Love all of your videos, they inspire me with their positive vibe and your unstoppable inspiration and hard work. Way to go!!! :-*
Ps. Im an artist, a weaver, an acrobat, a fiber artist, a crankie artist, a costume designer. If you ever need any of those skills id have fun working together.
I have watched the original video about 200 times (no exaggeration, my daughter loves it) but I still can't get my head around how they edit the segments together so seamlessly. I see no cuts whatsoever. Anyone any idea how they did it?
There are small jumps in the cuts, I can see a couple of them... But still, with computers these days I'm sure there are great ways to smooth out the cuts.
No, they absolutely cut. They used different takes from different flights. They filmed all the scenes several times, so if they used the fifth take of Scene A they might use the second take of Scene B and cut them together. They mention speeding up, but I think that was a mistranslation.
Thank you, OK Go, for showing us behind the scenes videos. Seeing what you guys do to create perfection makes them even more magickal. The creative geniusness is infectious. Side not: I prefer the spoken translation over subtitles. If I have to read what is said then I'll miss what's going on in the video. I don't want to miss anything.
Every other comment is about Andy- but tbh I feel the same. That last reel would have been perfect if the paint didn't get on the camera. It came out amazing though!
