If Biden would happen to be guilty of anything, I'd welcome a case. But afaik he isn't a criminal, because for how much colossal effort they tried, there was nothing. I have taught Civics Social Studies and served my country as a retired NCO. Served under 4 presidents who were my Commander-in-Chiefs. I've never considered any of them immune from violating their oaths of office. Behavior unbecoming of a superior officer would have been dishonoring those who serve under your command and a violation of the UCMJ.

There's a lot of evidence to go through and the case is factually simple but legally complex. I doubt it will be quick-but all people who were in the courtroom during the trial have said that they were very engaged and attentive all along-and they're New Yorkers-so who knows.

@@MeerkatADV Many of the counts are for the same crime, so guilty on one pretty much extends to the others in the same crime. Shouldn't take that long. They shouldn't come right in with either verdict immediately because that looks biased from the start. Even if they take the preliminary vote count and come up unanimous, either way, they should still sit around, have lunch and maybe come back tomorrow with the verdict. I've been on a jury. They are alone in there. Nobody knows what they're doing. If they need to review evidence, they call in a court officer. Other than that. Nobody else in the court - NOBODY - knows what they're doing or discussing.

Yes it's a significant and momentous time for justice in the USA. BUT, in reality the actual prosecution and deliberations ought to be no different for Trump than they would be for any other person accused of the same crimes. Being an ex-president should not give him a 'hall pass' when it comes to deciding on his guilt or innocence and nor should it be sufficient excuse for going lenient. It'll be interesting to see HOW MANY DAYS the Jury deliberates. The longer they are "out" it may mean an impasse or hung jury. The Judge will instruct the Jury by reading the Allen "rule" for the Jury to go back into the jury room and TRY to reach a UNANIMOUS decision.

I have never understood the NYS system of jury pool selection. Surely all 16 (i.e. including potential alternates) should listen to the trial evidence and then the jury of 12 is selected randomly “out of the hat” so to speak.

The pool goes through voir dire, that’s where the lawyers get to ask them questions before anyone is selected as a juror and the judge weeds out those who are biased or otherwise unable to serve in this particular case - because they know someone or they can’t be impartial or some other personal issue like health or their job, etc. So while the pool is put together randomly, the actual jurors are selected from that pool only after voir dire.
