The connection between Graz in Austria & Maribor / Ljubljana in Slovenia only being served by EuroCity trains, there where until recently no frequent local trains. This is all to be improved with these new local trains, that eventually operate hourly between Graz & Maribor and one train per day continues to Ljubljana.
Apart from these local trains, there are some EuroCity trains operating on the same route as well, although those trains need more time for this route.

I took this route 2 years ago, and one could get from Maribor to Graz on local trains, but there was a cross-platform transfer at the Austria/Slovenia border. It was a single ticket though.
@Trainviking
@Trainviking Месяц назад
Even though I personally think a cross platform change is fine, it's obviously better to have a direct train.

:) A lovely city in a lovely country. I truly think Slovenia is amazing, so much diversity on such a small peace of land, and great nature.

Annenpassage in Graz isn't closed because it's sunday morning, it's been closed for years after shops moved out. Which is unpleasant for pedestrians who want to get to the other side of the road, now there are only two widely spaced traffic lights. I took the Slovenian Flirt from Graz to Spielfeld-Strass; it is certainly overdue to have a multisystem train here, but there are still some points of criticism. This version of the Flirt has an interior for local trains, so there are no tables in second class and the seats are fixed. If you compare it to ÖBB cityjet you will notice the difference. It would be nice if at least part of the SZ Flirt were equipped with an upgraded interior.

Good to know for the Annenpassage. I know some of the Cityjet trains are pretty comfortable indeed. For a local train, however, I personally think these Slovenian trains are fine, however they can have some upgrades indeed, especially if you travel on board of these trains to Lubljana.

We ordered these Stadler Flirts (EMU and DMU) to eventually replace our older Siemens Desiro EMG 312 (SŽ 312/317) local trains (that don't offer 1at class seats) that were first introduced in the year 2000, and for DMU variant to replace the much much older so called "kanarček" train (SŽ 713/715) first introduced in 1983 (which one variant at the start only offered 1st class seats, but was later converted to only offer 2nd class seats like the other variant), and the even older Fiat units (SŽ 813/814) that were built between 1973-1976, but were later, starting in 1988 rebuild to match the same standard as SŽ 713/715 and were re-bagged to a new sub-series SŽ 813/814-1XX (with the non-modified units re-bagged to SŽ 813/814-000). So therefore the priority wasn't to have lot's of 1st class seats or tables on Stadler FLIRT as It's meant to be used as a local train and because the older local trains don't even offer first class seating.

@@DavixDevelop And don't forget the 711 (green train) which I last enjoyed on part of the line Maribor - Bleiburg (which had rail replacement service in the middle). Very comfortable units that once went internationally and are now over 50 years old. Their speeds of 120 km/h were considered sufficient in 1970 when no faster lines existed in Yugoslavia, and now we were chugging along at 60 to 70 km/h on this very scenic and curvy branchline. The problem here is that the multi-system train is at least partly used on longer express services where passengers have higher expectations. So maybe it could sense to upgrade the interior at least on those services. The interior is perfectly allright though for shorter trips of less than an hour.

@@uncipaws7643 Doubt they'll do that, as the trains are practically new, and with SŽ currently reconstructing the train station in Ljubljana, constructing the second track between Divača and Koper, and making various works on the network, like between Celje and Maribor, I doubt they have the budget or even plans for the future for such an upgrades.

Maybe this me being not British, I just see it as a Stadler FLIRT train. However they do look very much like the class 745, I do have a video on that as well (I just checked it to compare haha).ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_onS5B2zVYw.htmlsi=6prNOQhju9v8hpEy

Interesting to compare this train to the ICS which operates inside Slovenia for 20 years. More comfortable seats but no electric plugs yet, and a little faster thanks to tilting: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ECoYfURxZkU.html Advantage of the Flirt is level boarding and a more advanced passenger info system, but the seats in 2nd class don't have any tables and those in 1st class aren't significantly better (mostly tables, more legroom and different seat covers) whereas the first class on the ICS Pendolino is actually quite comfortable, same seats as ICE 3 before the refurbishment.

Why did you travel all the way from Trieste to Graz, if you could have taken the train from Ljubljana to Villach, then go to Bleiburg, travel with that train from Bleiburg to Maribor and then again with that train back from Maribor to Ljubljana?
@Trainviking
@Trainviking Месяц назад
I had some free days where I recorded as much as trip reports as possible after some days with my girlgriend in the south of France. I also wanted to make a video on the ETR 700 trains in Italy.
@adamunterwalcher5094
@adamunterwalcher5094 Месяц назад
@@Trainviking The train that brought you from Triest to Graz is the same that would have brought you to Ljubljana and as you mentioned the new rail line in Austria from Graz to Klagenfurt, you could have travelled on it, by taking a train from Klagenfurt to Bleiburg, which would have been on your way from Villach to Bleiburg. So you could have even done a Video on the new Rail line in Austria. And on top you could have travelled with the Slovenian Train three times or just take the Slovenian fast train from Maribor back to Ljubljana
