We spoke with Jamie Donnelly and Michael Tucci, aka Jan and Sonny in the iconic film, about their roles and where you can meet them yourself this weekend.
If they look OLD, they had to have been 28-29 in 1978 ! I thought Michael was SO cute back then. Also had a crush on Carmine from Laverne & Shirley . LOL. I guess you know "my type".
Actually I came out in Boston which in 1982 was a pretty gay friendly town with a slew of gay bars and clubs. And the dance music was absolutely fabulous! The golden age of HiNRGY!
Like it was yesterday, that movie was big. Watched it with my kids when they were growing up. The last time I saw the two of them was in the movie. To see them as seniors is jarring.
Not sure what the message was in that movie besides yeenage angst; but it was one that many enjoyed, including myself. The only fanaticism I would want to be involved in now is the one about the soon and coming King...Jesus. Problem I always found with following characters is that it was the character you were following not the person that they really are...
Well yeah of course you follow the character. Nobody gives or should give a hang about the real person. Someone that more likely than not you will never meet.
