Great Compassion Mantra (Foguang Shan Buddhist chant) 

I am not Buddhist. I do not have a greater understanding of this mantra. All I can say is, it has brought me a great deal of comfort in both good times and bad. For that, I am thankful.

Dedicate all merits of this Medicine Buddha mantra for my mother and all sentient beings. May She and all have happiness and good health always and be blessed, protected by the Medicine Buddha at all times.

The mantra itself is very soothing. I really appreciate the limitless images of Buddha

This chanting is Saddharma pundarika sutra (Lotus Sutra in Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva Chapter), with Great Compassion Mantra / Maha Karuna Dharani in the end of this chanting.

This is mainly the sub sutra in the lotus sutra (妙法莲花经观世音菩萨：普 pu 门 men 品 pin) dedicated to the avalokiteshvara bodhisattva (观 guan 音 yin 菩 pu 萨 sa). Usually followed by the great compassion mantra itself (in short: 大 da 悲 bei 咒 zhou) then the shorter heart sutra (心 xin 经 jing). We usually wouldn't have peaceful background music during our liturgies at the monastery shrine/hall), instead only using Mahayana buddhist instruments (木鱼 wooden fish: the hearbeating sound which it creates, 罄 standing bell, 宝钟鼓 the drum and bell, 引罄 smaller ver. Of the standing bell) which all could be heard in the video. The main sutra describes the life and story of the avalokiteshvara bodhisattva, and how avalokiteshvara attain bodhisattva enlightenment (成菩萨道). Avalokiteshvara is a highly respected and followed figure in east Asia Mahayana buddhism (chan and zen), mostly from countries and regions like SEA, Taiwan, Japan and China. Avalokiteshvara, very obviously represents great compassion (thus attained paranirvana and is now reborn in the west pureland beside the Amitabha Buddha- 极乐世界：阿弥陀佛), which is again the main goal of mahayana pureland buddhism. By reciting these sutras and mantras we get a great understanding of history and life of following buddhist philosophies. We don't believe, we do. This what makes our life better, instead of having the thought of believing in some magic that would happen to u without any hard+smart work. The philosophies in the sutras are to be acknowledged to apply it into daily life, escape the realm of suffering and desire (娑 suo 婆 po: saha aka the current world). Na mo Buddhaya 南无本师释迦牟尼佛 南无西方阿弥陀佛 南无消灾延寿药师佛， 南无大悲观世音菩萨， 南无大愿地藏王菩萨， 南无文殊与普贤菩萨。

The title in the heading and description are misleading. The first part is from Chapter 25, Lotus Sutra and 17:20 onwards is the actual Mahākarunicitta Dharani (The Great Compassion Mantra). By the way, the Nīlakaṇṭha Dhāraṇī (2 versions) and the Mahākarunicitta Dharani are part of the survived 9 versions of the Chinese translated Sūtra texts associated with Avalokiteśvara. The Mahākarunicitta Dharani used in the chant above and in the Chinese Mahāyāna Tradition is attributed to the Western Indian Master Śramaṇa Bhagavaddharma who translated during the Táng (唐西天竺 沙門伽梵達摩) whose text is known as 'The Vast, Perfect & Unimpeded Thousand Armed, Thousand-Eyed Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Great Compassion Dhāranī Sūtra (千手千眼觀世音菩薩廣大圓滿無礙大悲心陀羅尼經, T20 No.1060). It's not the Nīlakaṇṭha Dhāraṇī.
