As a woman, here is my perspective involving women: as you said, mother in laws usually do think Daughter in laws are too young and dont know anything. For girls, its hard to come from a loving family to be questioned in everything she does in the new house. However, dont underplay relationship between men - majority of men who work with their fathers (say in a family business), there are huge issues between dad and sons. We should see it as the same as what happens between women at home- this is where they are doing housework and styles are diff hence the issues. When women have only been given “power” in the household and no where else (financial decisions, even buying a family car), then thats where they will have opinions. In the office setup, women work wonderfully together and are major team builders. Men should try living with their father in law and work with him - you will discover a whole new side of you. I don’t know why this is almost always overlooked in relationship dynamics.
