We have a koi pond in the backyard. Our previous dog loved to stick her tongue in the water. The koi would swim to surface and nibble on it. They were so used to each other. It seemed to be a favorite game.

He just wants his buddies to come out and play, and I’m sure they want him to come in and swim. Such a tender souls 🥰 and the way he lovingly keeps them safe, it just shows how much love and concern he holds. They certainly have a good friend in Ben! Considering how smart fish are, I’m sure they look forward to seeing him every day too.

I’m kinda surprised he didn’t put his toy koi into the tank lol what a good boy he is.

Our 90 pound Lab is like this with every other animal he meets. He just can't understand why squirrels, rabbits, kittens, birds, fish, all get frightened when he runs up to make friends. You can physically see the sadness in his eyes and he whimpers. He's such a sweet soul.

If that isn’t the sweetest thing and the way he was holding his little toy fish between his paws…adorbs! 🥰

My late Mom had a pond with Koi in it. Her dogs didn't acknowledge them but she would sit out on her deck with her cats who obviously were fascinated by them... Very cool story BTW.👍✌️

I've had a few Danes in my life and while they aren't always the sharpest knife in the drawer, they are the sweetest and most loving!

It looked like he was scared to hold it too hard or tight, he grabbed it so soft.

When you think you have seen it all with dogs, Dodo surprises you yet again.

I love watching dif kinds of animals come together but I think this just might be my favorite!! He absolutely loves those fish, ands it's just too sweet, esp when he got his own!!! Love this!!

What an amazing dog. Unfortunately, I don't know how smart it was to give him a toy that looks very similar to the fish in the tank. He might just start pulling them out of the tank, seeing that he's tall enough to reach.

Ben is so sweet and gentle! The Koi are lucky to have the big guy guarding them day and night in case a "cat burglar" decides to sneak in and tries snatching a few! Love this guy, he is a riot!😍😹💓

That's adorable how much Ben wants to play with them. Great Danes are one of the most sweet gentle dogs. It didn't surprise me to see this video but it made me smile and laugh! And it hilarious how he would not leave the koi outside and was guarding them 😃 Then when Barbarella came the exact same thing happend he Stayed out there all day which made me laugh my head off. And He was so happy when he got his own koi which made my day! 💙 💜

It's that extreme gentle grabbing of the stuffed fish that did it for me! I have always done rescue and rehabilitation for extremely large dogs and it amazes me that there are so many people out there that don't comprehend just how gentle large and extra large dogs really are! My mom keeps little teacup dogs and Chihuahua like dogs. I was moving cross country one year and had to stay at her house one night, with my two full size Dobermans. I brought the crates in the house and put them in the crates till I could get settled in. Her little Chihuahua ran up to my big male who stood over close to 6 ft when he stood on his hind legs. That little chihuahua started screaming at Diablo and Diablo was towering above him just looking at him like dude what's your problem! I got settled in and it was time to let them go into the backyard. My mother was cringing because she knew they were going to have to run through the house to head out the back door. I told her just open the back door and I opened the crates and they shot out of those crates straight out the back door. My mother was amazed her jaw dropped wide open. she said oh my God they're so graceful! I said what did you think they were going to destroy everything between this room and the backyard? She said yes I was really nervous about it I've never had a dog that large in the house 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and I was thrilled that I was able to teach my mother something new even though she's 68 years old. I was even more thrilled to see how thrilled she was to learn that big dogs aren't scary

Such typical gentle attitude. Danes are such special dogs. They love other animals and humans equally.

My parents had koi fishes in their outdoor pond that my dad maintains. He’s very proud of it. They also have this “terrifying” jack russel chihuahua who terrorized the poor fishes daily, but really never did anything other than bark into the water and jump around from rock to rock to see the fishes better. Then one day, 10 years since he’s been doing this every morning, he finally reached in, caught a fish, and ate the head off! 😱No one knew till it was too late. But after that, his interest in the koi fishes immediately stopped. Don’t think he liked how they tasted very much 😓.

I'm pretty sure those koi fishes would get spooked by seeing a dog maul one of their own kind.

It would be very interesting to see what would happen if the Koi were in a pond or swimming pool that allowed Ben to jump in and socialize.

My granddaughter just got herself a 8 week old Great Dane puppy. Her mom was totally against our getting a dog so she tried to outsmart us by saying it has to be a small dog that doesn't shed, challenge accepted! She's the most calm and gentle dog ever so far. Your doggo is fabulous and a credit to his breed. They are guardians through and through. Amazing ! Peace

My dog treats all his squeaky toys like they are his babies. He is SO gentle with every single one of them. Even the way his goes and sets them down. He is my 1st dog to do this. It's like he is taking care of them. Lays them down on his blankets and everything.. crazy cute. He's a 100 pound American Bulldog lol

I love how gentle Ben is. The way he took his own Koi into his mouth was impressive. I remember once we had a parakeet escape it’s cage in our home and we tried to capture it, but were unsuccessful. Eventually, the bird tired out and landed on the ground and our Tosa Inu (Japanese Mastiff), picked it up in his mouth and placed it on my hand. At first, I thought our dog probably killed it, but when he placed it into my hand, the only thing wrong with the bird was that it had our dogs saliva all over it. I couldn’t believe how gentle our dog was towards the bird. I’m sure Ben would never hurt his fish friends. What a great boy he is!

I’m endlessly amazed at the concern dogs show for the welfare of other animals. They have so much love to give. Plants turn sunlight and carbon dioxide into oxygen for us; dogs turn all the emotional garbage of the world into love. And they get right up in our faces and make us breath it in.

Pretty sure those fish are pretty expensive. Also I love those steps up to the garage.
