I'm an old farmer's son, when he laughed at your offer to open the gate, I can't lie, my eyes welled up because I know that laugh.... I miss it every day.... Spend every minute you can get with him..... it's so much lost when they aren't with us anymore..... God bless you and yours.....the old ways brought so much more integrity and honesty. Cherish your time and wonderful memories to you all!

Seeing the old homesteads in Ireland where my Dad grew up was humbling...the dirt floors in Dad's 1925 birthplace where a family was still living in the same condition in 1973, the thought of Dad working in the morning, then getting up on his bike to ride 20 miles to play an Irish football match, then cycle home again in time for evening chores. Mom's family home/farm is over 300 years old, so the stories that land can tell. I wasn't able to capture all the stories and voices that I now so wish I had, so this was special seeing you with your father remembering "the old days."

The story about his dad in the horse, WOW. Such a heavy feeling when he and his mom were talking about him and the horse not coming back and him going to look, you can hear it in the way he speaks about it. Would be so hard walking out there into the snow at that age knowing the possibility that they weren’t ok.

What a great video. History comes alive when it is presented in the first person. Thank you to your father for sharing this. What an amazing gift to pass on. In my real life I was a hospice nurse and I met people that were amazing parts of history living all the history we were taught. That was a true honor and privilege to hear so many stories first hand unedited. I really appreciate this video so much. Thank you for what you do here it really does matter and makes a difference.

Grew up on a farm in late 50's.Dad was depression kid. He go to town on Saturday and get flour ,coffee and sugar. Everything else came from the farm. He had 9 siblings. You always had something to eat. My favorite meal was corn bread and sawmill gravy with salt meat with garde salad pick fresh! We still have big gardens and feed lot of older people that aren't able to have a garden. Can hear my dad telling about his childhood from your dad! Keep the videos coming!! Keep looking for bees on your homestead. When I was a kid that was my bartering tool.

Thank you for sharing very special....my husbands grandmother told me about how her family moved from Tennessee lower Appalachian to Michigan by wagon took them a month and how once there it was first time they had indoor plumbing and power hearing things from her point of view was eye opening same as a friend of mine from east Texas his great grandmother talked to me about how they settled in Jacksonville and had to fight for their lives against a native war party that had killed their neighboring native friends and how scared at 5 she was watching mom dad and 3 brothers fighting while they had her under the bed... makes me appreciate what little I have and thank God for it

He is awesome! I love his stories. Reminds me so much of my Grandpa. He passed away in 2000 at the young age of 58. I was 22. I didn’t get in to gardening until 5-10 years later and only got more interested in homesteading in recent years. Makes me think of my grandpa every day. I know how much he’d love my little urban “farm” I’ve created. My mom always tells me my grandpa would be right in the middle of it with me, if he was still here. ❤️ I love the aerial views of everything. What beautiful land!!

I love old airplanes and one morning going into the office, I looked across the airport runway and saw a B-17 and B-24. I went over at lunch time and even more interesting than seeing inside and out of the airplanes was talking with two former WWII pilots of those type of aircraft.

I lived with my grandmother growing up (she was born in 1899 and my grandfather was born in 1876 and died when I was a toodler). We had chickens, cows, horses, orchard, garden and 3 small rent houses. We used her "electric" washer that was electric because the wringer was electric:). We had a very small black and white TV with two very fuzzy channels. I was able to watch real TV when I went to college at 20 years old. I remember being very happy in general and have always known how to work hard. I have 7 children (all grown) and they are also very hard workers and successful. How boring life not to have anything to accomplish and be proud of.

Thanks Melissa, for your fortitude and prompting to record your father's and family's heritage... Viewing this , strikes the same cord, my father grew up in the 1930s also my mother, albeit slightly younger. I have felt and thought, for years, these precious and priceless lessons cannot, and should not, be lost with time. My father made cassette tapes of my Grandfather Louis, talking and telling stories of the 1890s through the early 1900s... You cannot help, but feel wonderment while listening to these times gone by. Thanks again, I wish you and yours well.

My gran was born in 39, she's still living on the farm she grew up in (we're in the UK) and where I hope to take on one day. I get lots of stories from her about her life and her parents, usually over a glass or few of wine, but I really need to make an effort to record it for the next generation so they'll get to know her better when they're grown and she's gone.
