Every play of Tech's final drive of the 1995 Virginia Tech-UVA Game. It also includes the interception return for a touchdown by Antonio Banks. This video was included in the article "A Look Back: The 1995 UVA Game" www.techsidelin...
Perhaps the most memorable play in Virginia tech football history. It really began the ascension of the football program. That, combined with the win over Miami earlier that year.
Absolutely! Our first Big East championship and Sugar Bowl victory...and top10 finish. Many conference championships and bowls since. 20-2 in last 22 games against UVa.
Great memories! My roommate, his girlfriend and I were at the game, sitting on the hill behind that end zone, and we were part of the group that stormed the field as Banks ran into the end zone! I shook hands with Beamer in the pandemonium, patted the shoulder pad of Waverly Jackson (VT Defensive Linesman… BIG DUDE!) and read the next day that Druckenmiller lost his helmet when he handed it to a kid so he could sign an autograph for the kid, but after signing and looking up, the kid had taken off with his helmet instead.
I remember listening to this over the radio in the car as a little kid, we pulled over after the touchdown because everyone was so excited, then when the pick was called we all freaked out. Also, good to see the tradition of us rushing their field goes back decades lol
Joe Gieck? Was his name I believe. He took a lot of heat for that. I don’t think anything really came of it. Just a classless move made out of frustration.
Ah yes, this was so long ago uva had a good team. And just think, a few years later a man named Michael vick would come to blacksburg and change everything. Ah the good old days. We have been to bowl game every year since this game.
alexn159 yes it’s kind of become sad the last decade and a half. Not that I’m complaining as a Virginia Tech fan. But it was nice during the mid 1990s when both teams were competitive. It looks like it may turn around now that the Hokies seem to be sliding a bit. Sadly.
