On a beautiful morning I visited this location as the sun came up in the early hrs of the morning ..The windmill at great Gransden was built in 1612 and is described as a post mill . Its a very rare example of this kind of windmill .. There are no sails on the windmill as as far as I can find out its under restoration..So different to the usual brick windmills that I come across ...
Also in front of the windmill is a ww2 memorial to the Canadian people who flew and participated in the war .. RAF GREAT GRANSDEN was active during ww2 and some parts remain further up the road including the control tower which is under private ownership .. I very much enjoyed this explore and look 4ward to returning in the future 2 record some more

..Constructed c1612, Great Gransden is one of the oldest surviving windmills in England. In 2017 the owner, Cambridgeshire County Council, completed major scheme of structural repairs to the buck and trestle with Historic England Repair Grants for Heritage at Risk. A second phase of grant-aided work, to reinstate the stocks and sails, with much community involvement has been delayed by Covid but may complete by the end of 2023.
