I'm a beginning woodworker and found this book ru-vid.comUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ gives useful advice on different types of tools & their usage, types of bits, safety etc. So when i do start to buy tools and bits, i basically know what to look for, how to use them & the types of woods certain bits are recommended to use on.
Great design; underutilized. I wish it were longer, rectangular, and had been stained a little darker. A nice pair of legs, sanded and oil-polished......I would bid to buy.
That is a beautiful piece of furniture. I would like to suggest that you could make the table top a hexagon that would match the smaller hexagon pieces that were built into the top surface.
Hi Ron, The dimensions can be whatever you need or want. The critical part is making an accurate hexagon and then duplicating that, say, 40 or 50 times. The reddish colored wood he is using (I'm guessing a mahogany), or it could be whichever wood is common to your area, it could be walnut. The two woods just need to be contrasting. As for the dimensions, it can be whatever size you want (2ft x 2ft), (2ft x 3ft), (3ft x 4ft), etc, etc. You saw his underlayment was oversized. He marked on that how big he needed the design to be, and then he cut it down to size afterwards. Anyway, sorry for being long winded, but what I'm saying, is you DEFINITELY could make this! It is a repeating pattern, it is some basic math. You could do this.
The width of the trim boards determines the other dimensions. X=trim width divided by .868; 2x is the length of each side of the hexagon; 3x is the length of the long sides of trim. All angles are 60/30 degrees. Hexagon widths are 4x corner to corner and 3.5x flat to flat. Number are approximate, close enough for woodworking.
@@RSS2100 do you know why this pattern is ‘running out’? The woven element is creeping but whenever I’ve encountered this pattern in the past this has not been the case? Is it because the darker wood is narrower than it usually would be - relative to the hex? Somehow this deviation does not prevent a cohesive pattern, just alters the look slightly….
Congratulations on the amazing craft! It already has the pedal and the wheel... with little else, it would be possible to include a cell phone charger.
