Rashmi’s chance encounter with swing dance led to her dancing across eight international locations while unlearning traditional leadership lessons. She talks about why 'following' is the new leading and her personal experience of realizing it through the magical swing dance. Rashmi’s favorite word is antifragile - the skill of gaining from disorder, which she believes is key for thriving global communities. In her quest to be antifragile, her chance encounter with jazz dance led her to dancing across eight international locations while unlearning profound leadership lessons which inspired this talk.
Currently she leads Learning and Wellbeing for South East Asia & Australasia for Unilever. Prior to that she was with IBM and Aon where she led & consulted with diverse leaders on unlocking people potential.
She has been recipient of several coveted titles such as Top 25 HR professionals in India and one of the top 10 women in the Economic Times Young Leaders List. Rashmi enjoys being an idea catalyst and has been a thought leader at industry forums, most notably UN Youth Speak 2017 by AIESEC along with ministry of education. She has also co-authored transformation case study for Richard Ivey School of Business. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I always remember her. She has delivered one of the most important wisdom we all need. Love her talk. It is SO Amazing! But yes, we do need to practice being a "Reasoned Follower" who has decided to follow someone after thorough reasoning and THUS being convinced that they are worthy of being a leader and thus of our followership.

Dont just be a follower.. In Indian Style..Swing Zara.. Swing Zara... :) - to be a leader as necessary and create a PERformance!

If all become leaders, who are the followers? Swami Vivekananda said" BE & MAKE". Sharma spoke very well. Leader is like a flower with fragrance, followers r like bees.

Like that new perception, Dont just be a follower or dogmatic leader.. In Indian Style..Swing Zara.. Swing Zara... :) - to be a leader also, as necessary and create a PERformance!

Awesome, It’s a lot like in premise improv, the initiator with a game in his/her mind but it’s the 2nd player that makes the game clear and the one that helps the initiator be funny. Listening once again is key to improvisation.

It'd be really good if there is an introduction of the presenter, by the presenter herself. It helps others to understand her background as well.. and her level of experience. That way people would be more capable of relating things and incidents mentioned in the talk.

Hi Aatiqua - one could begin with any - leadership skills or followership skills. The key is not to ignore followership skills, to be able to switch from one to another with ease so that one can be a well rounded leader. Hope that helps.

@@rashmisharmalife Even in Spirituality, it is said that the finest Master is the one who can practice being a student always. It is like -- the leadership happens undecidedly, while one remains focused on learning. Lovely talk, Rashmi. Do read my comment of appreciation posted separately.
