Welcome to What Yacht To Do, a Great Loop Documentary. Today, (May 13, 2022) Rev and Sam are moving on their Great Loop Route from Coinjock Marina in Coinjock, North Carolina over to Tidewater Marina in Portsmouth, Virginia. We planned a month-long stay here including a trip back home.
We are cruising around America's Great Loop for a second time and selected a 1999 Carver 504 named the Here's To Us!! as our Great Loop boat. So much goes into Great Loop planning and we share every trip with you. Welcome aboard!
Here are a few resources that we used for the trip: www.whatyachtt...
We started the Great Loop on May 15, 2019 and completed our Gold Loop journey on August 30, 2020. You can see our entire trip here: www.whatyachtt...
We started our second loop on September 2, 2020 and you can follow our route here: www.whatyachtt...

The best laid plans of mice and men , often go awry. It was a good trip in that you didn't have to be towed. Rejoice dear hearts and have a cold one to success. Enjoy.

Some days, making it to the bar is the only reward!! Despite the frustrations, I still find it amazing to be able to travel from the Albemarle the James River by boat. Thanks for sharing a tale worth telling.

This was an interesting trip for sure. First job as Captain is take of boat but a very very close second job is to keep the crew happy. We think you made the right choice to keep crew happy :-). It must be hard to believe that you are getting ready to cross your wake for a second time. It seems like not long ago you were taking off for your first day on the first loop. You guys have been great and we've enjoyed watching every episode. Be well and best wishes to you guys.

That RR bridge has a remote bridge tender and is computer operated. Waited 1 1/2 hours for that bridge to open this spring because of a delayed train at the station.
@WhatYachtToDo
@WhatYachtToDo Год назад
Yes, it can be frustrating, not so much the train, but the lack of communication from the remote tender. There was no upcoming warnings that the bridge would be closing. The train did not pass for 20 minutes after the bridge closed, so even a 10 minute warning would have helped as we could have pushed up the pace. 😌

I know this is pry terribly post dated, but please accept my imaginary round of drinks for a job well done. That wall cloud would have had my knees shaking as I encountered one like that while golfing (walking)!

Scott always says, it’s almost senseless to make a plan on a farm. Something pops up daily to keep us hopping. That fog had its own agenda. Lol. Happy late Birthday Sam!🎉❤🎉

Oh thanks for the birthday wishes! The fog, the storm, etc. really challenged our skills and patience. We were glad when we finally got to the marina! 😁

Sam doesn't your boat use less draft up on plane then it does idling? I understand the potential increased damage that could be caused by hitting floating debris at a higher speed. Just curious of your thoughts.

Thought about this a bit. I think and "lift" on the midship is negated by the pitch up (downward on rear). I am not an expert on this. Now I will be pondering this.
