Welcome to What Yacht To Do, a Great Loop Documentary. Today, Rev and Sam are moving on their Great Loop Route from Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City, New Jersey up the Hudson River to Half Moon Bay on Croton-on-Hudson, New York. Cruising up the Hudson is one of the most beautiful parts on the Great Loop.
We are cruising around America's Great Loop and selected a 1999 Carver 504 named the Here's To Us!! as our Great Loop boat. So much goes into Great Loop planning and we share every trip with you. Welcome aboard!
Here are a few resources that we used for the trip: www.whatyachttodo.com/resources/
And our Great Loop courses here: greatloopacademy.com/great-lo...
We started the Great Loop on May 15, 2019 and completed our Gold Loop journey on August 30, 2020. You can see our entire trip here: www.whatyachttodo.com/our-gre...

Another wonderful cruising day. It is nice to see you guys are thinking about the ladies and gentlemen that help keep the locks and waterway moving. Hope you're having a great day. Be well and best wishes.

Since I've explored NYC by land & air, now after seeing the your last two videos, the sea is calling. Other than the ferry rides to Liberty, Governors & Staten Islands and back to Manhattan, the Hudson & East River will offer a different prospective of NYC. Thanks for the views Capt. Sam & 1st Mate Rev! Safe Travels! 💙🗽🇺🇸💪🏼🛥

Hey Sam and Rev, I just came across a posting somewhere else in the past week or so ago that a guy wrote a long post that even recreational boats should make contact with the Coast Guard's VTS Center. Is that true or not and could you comnent on your experiences coming into and passing through the New York harbor and heading up the lower reaches of the Hudson? Any advice, suggestions, etc that you might offer? Thanks.

Good question. I never contacted them since I had AIS and monitored 16 and their frequency. They are watching everything in that area and will reach out. Here is a link to the VTS procedures. www.navcen.uscg.gov/vessel-traffic-services-radio-procedures. Hope that helps! Do feel free to email me directly. 😎

It's not a requirement, and sometimes in these busy areas, you just end up confusing them if you are on a direct route through
