It's amazing to see that view atop Carew Tower from 1937, that I've seen from it 7 decades...

Not true. The Banks project all along the Cincinnati side of the river is largely TO prevent damage from flooding. Parks are great ways to give the river space to go, while all the soil (as opposed to the concrete that used to be there) absorbs floodwaters. People and property are out of harm's way, and instead of houses and businesses being under water (since those have been moved to higher ground), water just spreads out over an expanse of grass, only leaving some debris behind. Even the structures that are there - like the bathrooms - are able to be picked up and moved. 1937 also taught us how to build better floodwalls and floodgates, but its intelligently planning what goes on a floodplain that is working the best. Seriously, go down to Smale Park, or Friendship Park near the Boathouse, and see what some of the best flood mitigation in the country is all about. /geologist

At that time, Louisville, Jefferson, and Clarksville was completely flooded. That's why they have a wall circling over from Jeffersonville to Clarksville

@@HeresNegan16The water is dirty, barges traverse it, lots of trash on the banks from floods and littering, as well as dumping before they knew better. But I love mudlarking the bank when the water is low. Rocks and fossils, pre and historic artifacts, etc.
