I actually just did something like this last week (the example of the empty shelves). My players walked into a small village. On the way in they noticed feathers and dried blood near the scarecrows and when they got to the market the farmer who runs the field was at his cart, but it was empty. The fields themselves also looked unkempt and overgrown. Farmers were tilling new fields too close to the woods and some pixies got mad and enchanted the scarecrows and then the game was afoot!

James Marino Alternatively, the farmer could be a wizard in disguise and a rival mage or faction is sending birds to spy on him, so he animated the scarecrows as guardians to dispose of the birds.

At 1st I didn't understand why u made this one but it did remind me when I introduced npc's who could talk with or "kick start" different perspectives. After my then g/f fell in love with The Hobbit series I started a game to keep the juices flowing. Playing a very smart half- Elf Rogue raised by Hobbits she was quite stealthy nd constantly looked for things to steal. Also she hated Orcs (killed her real parents) nd wanted to kill them on sight. Finding herself in a Darkly run Brothel / Tavern she sees the plight of the prostitutes and changes from wanting to kill Orcs to wanting to save the forced female Orcs and their children. She went into the place thinking she would find magical items and gold and maybe kill a few Orcs on the way and then move on but instead became like family to a small group of Orcs that she said she'd never be involved with which I thought intriguing

Sounds like a lovely adventure. Pity it didn't help the juices it would seem? Growing one's imagination is often something we forget to do - especially when we feel we are 'already imaginative enough'. I remind myself daily that I need to work on my imagination.

"Inspiration can also be, at it's worst, that random thought that runs through your mind." Hey, I love that little weirdo. He's nuts sometimes.

The Sherlock method is rather brilliant. My imagination practically bounces off the walls with TTRPG's, but my train of thought can screech to a grinding halt sometimes.

I may be over a year and a half after the original posting date, but this is an interesting idea that I've never actually played around with. I've added color to characters... guess I can start adding some texture.

A game I like to play is "What would I do if I was suddenly in this world" AKA the world I was watching, reading, or experiencing some other way, and then go further with how would the people in this world respond to me, what would they think of me and how would they treat me

Never had problems with imagination or creating a character, yet enjoyed this vid a lot. Thank you for doing such content!

I've got a question. How do I encourage a fellow roleplayer to maybe play a different type of character? I don't mean class, or race. I mean all of his characters are the same person. They all brood in the corner of any room they find, focus exclusively upon revenge, equate self worth with martial prowess, and thinks being "edgy" is a good thing. This would all be fine if he was the type of person who just wanted to make well functioning characters in combat and just gives the a token personality to facilitate that play style. But he focuses on roleplay and we have to carry him through fights that he commonly drags us into.

Well I'd ask the GM for a 'hand-out run'. Whereby the GM generates characters and then randomly hands them out to the players. These characters don't replace your main characters but are almost 'and whilst your characters are off saving the world - back home these people have a problem'. Then you make sure that Grim gets the happy character. If he still plays it as Grim then it's your player who doesn't know how to play anything else and you can't change that. If he plays light and happy then after the session approach him and tell him how awesome it was and how you wish he'd do that more often because he's a great role-player. And this goes without saying what Stranded said - talk to your GM!

Another answer that works for me is talking to him whenever you are creating new characters and say things like "You do good this type of character, but I wonder how good would you be acting as a happy one?", in my personal experience players who always do the same character tend to be insecure about changing its style. I encourage them, saying they can do it, and how awesome would be seeing him using his good roleplaying skills to do different things (even if it is not true). Thanks to me, I found out this flattery not only works, but many players have like a boom of roleplaying improves over and over when they actually follow your advice, which is always a great surprise and the flattery will come naturally to everyone and be sincere then.

July 2022. You are correct, the grocery stores have nothing on the shelves. How did you know? What divination spell did you use? What are the winning numbers for tonight's Powerball numbers? ;)

The big banana has been affected by the alien radiation that created the zombies. The big banana has grown legs and has sharp teeth. If you go near it the banana will attempt to eat you just like the zombies.
