Hello Everyone! WOW it has been a great week for Roxane and myself. We needed to finish up some things on the property before we could start back on the shed to house. A good friend of ours asked if we could go help him out. Roxane decided to go explore the property to find wood gold, and a huge delivery was made. All in all, a great week and we are so happy its finally starting to warm up around here. Thank you for being here, we appreciate you all! Enjoy!
if you guys are interested in the sign we got be sure to check out Lee's Facebook page,

All of those small branches and leaves and any larger logs are still good for the first layer of your garden. Start big then work your way up to the smaller stuff. You will have to continue each year adding a top layer of soil as the wood below starts to break down and fill in voids.

Use all the twigs, leaves and other natural debris to start filling the bottom of your planter boxes. I had a bunch of straw bales that helped fill my 3' x 40' (4' deep) slump stone planter. At the time I had no idea about the twigs and smaller logs that could have been added. It certainly would have helped. I had a bunch of dirt brought in from a job that needed to get rid of all of the dirt from the excavation even though it had some stuff in it it was taken out prior to going into the planter. It was free and benefited both of us. Definitely a win win!

I think you will like the garden the way it is laid out now. And if you need more you got room to grow toward the house if you find out you dont use that area that much. Wyatt and the other kids will be wanting a clubhouse soon as their secret spot. Leave it to the kids to find such a great area for their own. Looking good, keep on coming on.

That was a fabulous gift from Lee! I love it. If you move the greenhouse back towards the tree a bit, you could put a round table with an umbrella to take breaks or work at. sorta like a little courtyard. Every year I always did major changes to my garden, just for fun, so just go bare bones this year and I'm sure you will have a zillion ideas to try each year. Your garden will grow to be the garden of your dreams before you know it! Great job. Whoah E whoah it's off to work you go, LOL.

CRC, Hey Folks...We had a skunk trying to get into our chicken coop from underneath...we ended up putting about 6 boxes of moth balls under the coop...it kept the mama racoon and babies away as well...we battled the deer eating our hedge in front and had to use moth balls and coyote urine to shoo them away...stay warm, Kennebunk has been raining and very windy...I am ready for 68+ temps anytime!!! a tip from a fellow arkansan...put up your garden fence first..between the deer and rabbits you won't have a garden to fence..also..put up some of your chicken wire that you have on your coop's ground...put it around the edges of your raised beds.. at least 4 foot high if you don't want the deer to get your veggies . instead of a gate just wire the ends to each other to close and open...we had to do that to even the raised flower beds..only flowers deer and the horses wouldn't eat was irises cannes, and daffy dills (as we call them) , if you let your chickens roam in the day they will pick up every seed you sow....

Roxanne, there is a plant called "Pride of Barbados". It has yellow, red and orange flowers on it. It needs full sun, dies back in the Winter and has wispy green leaves. It can grow about 6 feet tall and wide. The butterflies, humming birds and bees love them. It would really accent you house color. It would look cool in those sunny spots around the edges of the yard. I love the garden plan. If you can make room for a small table and chair to sit at and drink your coffee in the morning that would be nice. I think the fence around it will make it even more special. peace y'all

Couple of thoughts. First before everything starts really greening up may want to go around the perimeter of property and set more no trespassing and no hunting signs and cut back the areas you all where thinking about trimming. Another great thought is for you all ie SLR &CRC to purchase a trailer big enough to make the saw mill portable. That way you can move it any time you need, and not have to always break down if friends need your help

If you want to do some in-ground gardening, it's looking like you will need to make some major soil amendments in that area. You might even want to remove a bunch of the existing soil & replace it with compost, organic fertilizer & mulch. Check your area resources. Some communities collect yard waste from around town & compost it & offer it to the residents for free. Might be worth looking into. Have a great day 😊.

just a tip about oak trees in your area. You have 2 kinds of oaks, Post oak and Red oak. Post oaks actually fit in the white oak family and have rounded lobes to their leaves and a lighter more smooth bark. White oaks are closed pored wood and do not rot very fast, hence they are used for wine barrels. Red oaks have a pointed lobe leaf and are an open pored wood that rots quickly. Red oaks will be good to put in a garden if you need them to rot and provide nutrients for your garden,. just not too much because they tie up the nitrogen when they begin to rot. Post oak would be good to line the bottom of your beds as they do not rot.

Make the poles for the fence higher than the actual fencing, string wire or rope from pole to pole and put ribbon or small flags on wire or rope. The deer see the flags and for some reason don't try to jump over. I really like your new layout of the garden.
