Jack Russel will always be the sound of Great White...period....I am so glad that I lived through the 80s as a teenager and experienced all of that great music...I am very fortunate
I’m only 17 and will ALWAYS be saddened by the fact I’ll never be able to see these bands as they were in their prime era or to experience anything of the 80’s. It makes me glad that some people like you appreciate those times, I wish my father and many other people appreciated it more, some people don’t realize how great they got it.
@@kc9804 that's understandable as you can't choose when your born,me as a teen in the 80s I saw GW once in 1984. But my best concert experience was seeing VH in 1981,82,84!😁 Jman
So much respect to jack here for the brutal honesty he showed about himself . Addiction is so evil , so glad he finally got clean what a beautiful voice he has
Saw Great White 2 years in a row at the "Attic" nightclub met Jack Russell before 2nd concert at La Vista pizzeria which was next door to the club a d Jack was off the tour bus chilling before the show(probably scouting the ECU girls😉) Bobby Blotzer played drums that concert too for some reason Great show!🤘
met jack in salt lake got to chat with him for a bit he sang a bit of love is a lie one of my favorite songs of hi at the end i asked him for his phone number and he gave it to me!!! bi send him text for the holidays and just so grateful for the experience love the interview!!
The 1980’s was the perfect time to hit my teenage yrs. Metal was a revolution of sorts. Our fans were loyal to the music and still are! I can listen to Great White and I travel back in my mind to when I was cruising without a care in the world. Just being young. Hanging out with friends. We lived in the best era for music. 70’s(Rock) 80’s (Metal!). Best wishes to Jack. Rob Halford,Jack Russell,Dio! My fav vocalists!
Jack Russell is one of my most favorite singer's of all time. He is so mellow and smooth and could raise his voice so commanding in every way. I loved Great White when he was their vocalist. Noone can replace or replicate his voice in any way. Jack Russell was the man of Great White. I have always loved him and his voice. One of the greatest front men of all time. I love you. Jack Russell. Always have. Robert Spallinger.
Great White's music has always been really important for me: helped me true hard times, raised my spirits when the going was good and listening to Jack Russel being so honest about it all is wonderful! Thanks Jack!
Hate to break it to you, but these days kids don't like to drive, EVs are total crap, girls try to look like men and drugs are lethal.... these days suck.
im 22 and have been listening to great white since i was in the womb. Me and my dad saw them in hollywood and decided to wait in the parking lot after a show just to see if he would eventually come out, and sure enough he did. Dude wasnt even bothered 2 fans were right there to annoy him when he was trying to leave 😂
Way back when I was a roadie for a band and we were opening up for Great White. It was at The Troubadour early 80's. Jack did his sound Check and I was right next to him. He had an incredible voice and range. I couldn't act excited at the moment because when you're a roadie for a band you hate everyone else lol.
I saw Great White open for Judas Priest 84 I believe. I had no idea who they were but thought they rocked the house pretty good. I also thought Hooked was a great album along with Psycho City.
Yup, that was 1984. Defenders Of The Faith and Great White S/T tour. I saw that show in St Paul. Back when Great White was trying to be heavy metal. I'm out on the road and I'm rockin', stick it, STICK IT!
I remember when the Twice Shy record blew up big and Great White were a household name in the late 80's / early 90's. I formed a power trio my senior year of high school, and one of the tunes we worked up was "House Of Broken Love", which was one of the singles from that record. Then a few years later, GW puts out that live cover album of Led Zeppelin tunes, and I thought to myself, "Jack Russell is the next Robert Plant." Sounds like Robert to a tee! I always loved the prominent bluesy influence in their music. Mark Kendall was one of the most underrated guitarists of his era. Even when grunge, and later nu metal, was reigning huge in the 90's, I still listened to my 80's bands, and Great White was in regular rotation. I never turned my back on the music that got me through some really not-so-bitching times in my life.
Hooked and Psycho City are Great White's best albums, IMO. Also, Jack Russell has a solo album, Shelter Me, which is really good, you should all check it out.
Met Jack at few of those small gigs, one being Tipatina’s in New Orleans. He was gracious and humble. Asked if he wanted to smoke a joint, but he was on the wagon at the time. So we wound up burning with the drummer and Bass player. Swapped stories, they had some doozies 😂 great times! RIP Jack, thanks for the music and memories 🤘🏻🙏🏻
Don't really know much about the Great White split, but it's too bad it ended up the way it did. Great band! I always thought they had a longevity to their music that would have sustained them. At least Jack owns it and seems happy where he is.
I saw JRs Great white and met Jack & Robby in Salina KS a few years back. Got a stick and pick. Super nice & humble guys. Put on a hell of a good show. Jack's still got the pipes.
Of all the 1980s hard rock bands, Great White was my favorite from the moment I saw Jack's picture in a BAM magazine, because he wasn't wearing makeup, his hair wasn't in a poodle-do. He was wearing a denim jacket, the sleeves cut off, with a belt buckle that said "Jack" on it. I liked his voice when I heard "Out of the Night" for the first time, but I was really sold on "Rock Me" and "Once Bitten..." I was glad they got as big as they did for a while in the summer/fall of 1989., but it's really when people's tastes changed. I really believe that if it weren't "Grunge," it would have been something else that would have turned the mainstream public's attention. Things change. I wish Jack Russell had been able to stay with Great White. This IS the first time I'd heard his version of how he left that band, that HE had the power to "fire" everybody else. I am so glad to see this and the Part I interview. I appreciate his candor and his humility. And he sounds great and sober in these interviews. I might have to go see his band the next time I'm able.
Jack Russell is one of the best rock singers but I'd say his greatest blessing is how kind time has been allowing him to age gracefully while keeping his young look.
Teqnicly I am waiting for the rest of the year in the grave post it the right thing to do when I get updated and watch TV for the offer I am doing to check out the remaining stories to come from Jack Russell and Great White and some other one on metal open options before I get worries the best way to describe the big man him self in person he's very nice looking Way down to earth in most popular steps adult and sure of wonder and fresh what is happening sounding clean and adorable I hope he doesn't feel too scared it really try to unlock the motion of president jive truly appreciate your gossip after I put my insurance right on the phone messages here and I will send gorgeous even perfect photo alone with the word of our metal lead special time to get a word from him in the pod group of metal principal I understand and say anything else you need because I always see him when I get ready for the bow Lorrie and Jack Russell tell me what you think Lovett
Jack really hit home with me hen he said who would have imagined no record stores..... Growing up, the Record Store seemed like the center of me and my friend's lives.... We'd spend hours in there.. It was the place to get connected with other musicians and I remember the excitement of being there to pick up a new album you'd been waiting for a favorite Band to put out... I recall having money in my pocket to buy just one album, and what a tough choice it was sometimes because there were so many great ones available...
Wow- taking ownership of the drugs- powerful statement from a man who realized he screwed up. I love he didn't blame anyone else. Magnificent point about the fan base ebb and flow. RiP dude- gonna miss you
Didn't even mention the tragedy that really screwed that band up (club fire). I admired them for never giving up, and I'm glad Jack is in a good place with it now. Gotta admit, I do miss the carefree hedonism of the late 80's. That attitude hasn't happened again, and I doubt it will.
The band was already broken up at that point. Mark Kendall was joining JRGW for a few shows when that happened. I don't think Jack wants to talk about that anymore. I don't blame him.
@@atticusfinch3931 That sucks. I wasn't there, but seeing the raw video was rough. I can't imagine. I saw an interview with Mark and he talks about how he went from it'll be put out quick and we'll go back in to Holy Crap, this is terrible. Did you see the Reelz documentary?
I guess it was towards the end of the 90s when I started seeing Metal bands doing shows again, I was probably just as happy as the actual bands themselves.
didn't know there was a bad split with these guys. too bad cause they rocked. but i'm sure the dudes workin with ole jack here are likely rockin as well. i was hopin you guys were gonna drop some more content. thanks.
I have the utmost respect for Jack...there was a show in Green Bay years ago...maybe 2013 or 2015...he'd just torn his Achillies earlier that week...but on Friday he sang a whole show from a bar stool on stage and kicked ass...I can't help but think many musicians would've cancelled and been justified doing so...but not Jack...I was always a fan, but I'll be a fan for life after that...regarding the break up...w/the substance abuse and so forth was it justified...probably and that's what Jack confirmed...but as you can see following Great White since...I think Great White has a Mark Kendall problem...not a (insert this month's singer here) problem
Its the customers, Jack. Most people dont know good music unless you spoon feed it to them. The fans actively seek it out. Hooked and Psycho City are your best albums.
Jack and as many ROCK BANDS OR ROCK ARTISTS SHOULD PUT ON A CONCERT FOR FLORIDA LIKE LIVE AIDE IN THE 80'S!! ROCK ISN'T DEAD!! IT'S BEEN SURPRESSED?? MUSIC TODAY IS ONESIDED!! ESPECIALLY IN MAINSTREAM MUSIC!! ROCK ARTISTS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN FOR A GOOD CAUSE!!! SO BIG THAT THE MEDIA CAN'T IGNORE ??? NOW IS THE TIME FOR ROCK TO BE HEARD BY THE MASSES AGAIN!!!
listen, I'm a huge fan. But to suggest that rehab after the Hooked album would have changed history is delusional. Psycho City was and is unquestionably their best record, start to finish. But the music world changed on them. It is what it is.
These interviews are old. Mark Kendall and Jack Russell are friends. Jack has managed to get sober and stay sober. Mark Kendall suggested Jack using the JR's Great White so he could pay some bills. Mark Kendall loves the Guy. He petitioned the courts. AND it's a matter of public record. Do not believe in any negativity, my heart broke for those guys for the RI show. They lived it. It'd mess anybody up. Jack was still partying and during these interviews he was struggling privately.
I never liked Grunge. Depressive music, too many minor chords, music for losers. Rock should lift your spirits and make you want to live. But that's just my opinion.
Don't think anyone wants to admit that he refused to take accountability or help others while his guitarist went back in to save others. (False rumor he went back in for his guitar)
Some rock stars understand why grunge killed 80's metal, other's dont. Seem's Jack Russell still doesn't understand it. Yes, he's right, grunge was depressing, it was morose. That's exactly why it was so popular. Things change. the partying and hedonism of 80's metal was perfect for that time period, but metal never matured beyond that. It was stuck making music for teens and teenyboppers. Meanwhile all those metal heads in 80's were grown up by the 90's and were seeking more meaningful music, more introspective music, so when grunge came around it was perfect for that time. Of course now that all those 80's metal heads, turned 90's grunge fans, are middle aged and feeling nostalgic, so they went back to the 80's feel good party music.
Real metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Metallica had deeper more mature lyrics - it was glam metal bands that had the shallow lyrics about girls, partying, fast cars, etc.
😂 grunge was exactly that! Grunge! I think they are all on the same level for EMO kids of the 90’s. None exciting or different just blah! Pearl Jam probably being the biggest 💩
Great white didn't sound like any of the cookie cutter 80s bands. Loved them then and still do. I'm not familiar with the new singer but love the JR stuff. Heard today his health is poor.
Oh he twisted history there just a little bit on his sacking. He leaps over the tour he missed where another singer had to be brought in. There is blood on Kendalls hands when it comes to him dealing with the other singers
Sad how everyone forgets that ! It's about 20 yrs nxt year ? My friend knew someone that was taping the show and we used to get cassettes of bands at that venue. Unfortunately he died in the fire ..a tragedy to say the least u can watch it on you tube if u can handle all the screaming ..dude video taped everything..that night
That nightclub fire brought back some agonizing memories of when I was serving aboard battleship USS Iowa April 19,1989. We lost 47 guys that day. I can't even fathom the 99, 100 or so who died in The Station Nightclub fire. I cried with you guys watching the footage. My most sincere condolences, and my heart is with you guys still dealing with the PTSD from it.
